In this video, I share the 10 minimalist shopping habits I follow everyday. I used to be obsessed with designer shopping, always wanting to buy the next Chanel bag or Hermes jewelry. As my luxury collection grew bigger (as in I had way more than I could practically use), I realised I was just using shopping to fill a void. Luckily I found minimalism, which changed my life. I then decluttered and downsized my luxury collection, selling everything that I wasn't using much. With these 10 daily minimalist spending rules (I set for myself), I've been able to consistently do low-buy effortlessly. Seriously, saving money can be really fun too xx

Thank you for watching this video about my best 10 minimalist shopping rules. I used to think shopping was happiness. After some the very expensive designer shopping obsession, I fortunately found minimalism. I then decluttered my luxury collection a whole lot, selling lots of Louis Vuitton, Hermes, and Chanel. I now happily embrace the art of slow buying and intentional shopping, and I'm so much happier and at peace xx - Хобби
So thought provoking!! Shopping is a hobby for so many of us. Bored? Shop! Not feeling well? Shop. I find my shopping has increased much more during Covid times! I need to re-set!!
It’s a bit scary how shopping has become a routine in modern days I agree xx
I'm currently downsizing my handbag collection. I have too many from collecting over the years and tend to use the same ones. Selling three LV bags I haven't used in a long time, feels good! Just can't take the clutter anymore. 😊
Clutter is both expensive and stressful xx
the Bible says, "Keep your eye simple..." Doesn't mean we have to be boring and not enjoy luxury, but like you said, Eileen, we don't have to own them all. - You should have 10Million subscribers. this materialism is getting out of hand.
You're too kind, thank you so much xx
I would say a great way to practice luxury minimalism is to support great creators such as yourself who will gently encourage us to improve our shopping habits.
That’s so very true, I love watching content about simple living at the moment, my favourite is Cottage Fairy! Xx
You are so right about growing. I started browsing this weekend and I found something to put on my wishlist. I don’t plan on getting anything right away from the wishlist and I will let it sit for a few months while I try to save up and most of the time, the items fall of the wishlist because I no longer love them lol. So that is my strategy to buy less. But honestly I would be better off not browsing. Love your soothing voice. 💖
Thank you so much for sharing, it’s always lovely to have you here xx
"my life is already awesome" I love that, so is mine. This is my takeaway from your video.
Thank you! xx
love for the point number 10... sometimes we really forgot how lucky & awesome we are just to have enough food to eat and shelter to live ;(
We are truly blessed with so many wonderful things xx
Hi Eileen, your videos have helped me immensely with my journey to minimalism. You posted a video a year ago with items you don't regret purchasing and use all the time. Would you consider making an updated video? I'd love to see your current items kept and the reasons for keeping those. Thank you for amazing quality contents as always.
That’s a fantastic idea, I’ll note it for video ideas, thank you! Xx
I see that this video is 2 years old, but I've found it just at the right time. Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤
My new thing is I don’t accept clothes from friends and tell them to donate them instead. I use to take anytime someone was getting rid of that I liked on them but I never end up wearing them because I didn’t take it with intention. It’s the same with thrift or preloved buying.
It’s so true, free things sometimes still cost us - our time and attention xx
@@ColourfulNoir so true, my mother use to volunteer in a charity shop that was particularly designer focus and that’s when it really got out of control. The only times I kept since are a few things I genuinely wear frequently. I think it was made worse because she would see things and get them for me and because it was a designer name & a good bargain (I still paid, more usually than asking price, but it still very cheap) I felt it was “stupid” to pass it up. Then because of this, my friends always assume I was up to take everything. I got a lot of “give these to your mom’s shop but try this on for yourself, I think it suits you” and that somehow made me feel pressured to keep it because they endorsed it 🤷♂️
perfect substitute for shopping is going out in nature
Completely agree!xx
I've recently started a gratitude journal (thank you for the idea). I write in it every morning and evening. It really has helped with starting/ending the day on a positive note. ☺️
That sounds wonderful! Keeping a gratitude journal really changed the way I look at life xx
I, too, wondered if I gave up shopping what I would do instead that would be as entertaining. It turns out I don't miss it at all. I also agree with your thoughts about being as intentional with a $4 purchase as a $4000 purchase. I realized I was bringing lots of clutter into my house that was inexpensive. But at the end of the month all of those purchases add up and then eventually go to the thrift store. Now that I buy very little it is so freeing. I can spend more time on other things. I never realized how much time I was wasting.
Same here! It’s truly liberating to not rely our happiness on shopping xx
Perfectly said as always. You always manage to say the things I’ve gone through as well.
Glad you like my video, thank you xx
I agree about being 100% sure and if not to return it. Now I try to give myself time to thing about it before purchasing. But when I was new to buying luxury I would buy things I like before thinking about it. Great points Eileen.
Thank you for sharing xx
Great video Eileen! Love your content 💕
Thank you so much, Ruby xx
I think it's also important to give yourself grace. If you're a materialist and appreciate beautiful things, it takes time to find your style, brands and pieces that work for you. There's this unavoidable period of exploration and not all your purchasing decisions will work out. I used to shop very little, but spent a lot of time virtual shopping, looking for the right things. And then I started buying them and finding that some areas of my wardrobe were incredibly difficult to address - like trousers. It felt like not a single brand makes trousers for my body shape. So when I came across a few items that were almost good, I kept them, because it was better than anything I'd tried before. And about a year later I found things that were even better than that and then I felt bad about settling before. I've also been shopping a lot more now because it so happens that many of the things on my wishlist went on sale. The right size, colour, material - and I have no guilt whatsoever about spending in a month more than I did all year on fashion, because these are all 10/10 items for me.
Great tips! Thank you for sharing. Xx
Thank you so much, Jo xx
I enrolled Skillshare and started to paint watercolour last year. Thanks for introducing Skillshare and l must say it was the best purchase l did among all other purchases! 💕
So happy for you! Keep us posted about your progress please xx
I'm purging again... and I feel I still have too much. I Thank GOD for all I have and I think most of these things will be donated to a women's shelter this time. I still feel like I've shopped after watching YT videos. 😁 My closet is my FAV tho.Happy Luner Year!💕🌺
You look lovely btw... love the scarf.🥰
Gratitude is really the key to happiness xx
Really good thank you, I can totally relate x
Thank you, Anna xx
Wow, great video and so very true. ♥️
Thank you!xx
Excellent insights! Suggestion for future videos : I’d be very interested in knowing what outfit pieces are in your wardrobe as a luxury minimalist. Thanks!
Noted for future video ideas! Thank you xx
Beautiful sharing ✨✨✨
Thank you xx
Hi Eileen from Australia 🇦🇺❤️
I have been watching all your videos.
They are so beneficial and realistic.
Unfortunately I am not on the same level as you. I just started buying luxury. All my life I could not afford it or couldn’t justify spending thousands of dollars on a handbag. So far I only have a few items purchased over one year
You’re at a really good place! I think it’s ok to enjoy luxury as long as we’re mindful about the way we spend xx
Refreshing!
Thank you, Grace xx
My home is not a museum. This spoke to me!
Although I absolutely love visiting the museums lol xx
I think browsing definitely causes more buying. I constantly think more about the things I buy, even though I know I can afford them. How many handbags can I carry and shoes can I wear? I truly believe your videos are reaching people.
That really means a lot , thank you so much Renee xx
When i see an influencer promote a look i think: how can i do this for less? How do i make that work for my body type? What do i already have that can make it work? Only after that do i give myself permission to shop. I fill up my amazon cart, wait a day then start deleting what i can wait on. Many times i dont buy anything or just head to thrift store
Thanks for your great list! /Marie from Sweden
It’s always lovely to see you here Marie xx
Hi Eileen, love your channel and style!! I’m really keen to know which clothing brands you tend to buy from - I am determined to replace my items from fast fashion houses to a curated collection of high quality basic clothing items this year, and I’d love to hear where you get your beautiful jumpers and tops from. Xxx
your content means so much to me. great insights from experience.
It means a lot, thank you so much xx
All great points. I am not curating a luxury minimalist wardrobe, only the best quality I can buy for my budget and mindlessly trying to find the best items for a reasonable amount of money can be time consuming & frustrating. I need to keep in mind my time online and reserve more time for reading and doing things I love.
It’s true how people say, life is about collecting memories and experiences, not things xx

Would if you give us your advise and make a video about your views on the Bvlgary handbags trend!
Eileen, can you share your current feelings about the hermes prespend for a quota bag? Would you recommend paying 2 or even 3 times for the guarantee that you get a bag you want (and risk inauthenticy) or chance it with the Hermès journey?
Hi Dani, I’ve actually filmed a video about this, will be live in a couple of weeks xx
@@ColourfulNoir you read my mind!
Great video and suggestions as always. I’m living a minimalist lifestyle and hate clutter since my home is a mid century all glass home. Also I stopped watching product review Channel so I don’t get the pressure or fear of loosing out syndrome. And with the pandemic one can’t be walking around with all full designers. Even with my discrete items I still don’t feel comfortable. Take care and thanks for the video
Hi Jasmine, I can relate! I now prefer low key and very practical pieces too xx
You havent linked the scarf you are wearing, its beautiful, can you tell where you got that one, thanks 😊
The scarf is Hermes Jaguar Quetzal in Blue Nuit xx
When I buy something new now, I sell 2-3 things. I don't need everything I like. Now, my closet only has things I love.
What a good idea xx
Dear Eileen thank you for your video. Do you think it was easier to transition because you had a “core Wishlist items” you had already acquired? Xx
I think so! Luxury minimalism is not anti luxury after all, so the key is to only buy what we really love and then enjoy them rather than keep buying xx
I look at money differently now also. That’s why my desire to shop is practically gone. I just got fed up and tired of constantly looking for things to buy.
It’s a wonderful feeling to have when your focus is not just in consuming anymore xx
@@ColourfulNoir Yes I have a lot of free time to do other things now. Been focusing on my health a lot more.
Eileen is the True Luxury...📿
Thank you!xx

Hi hi! Do you still have your Kelly? I miss seeing it! Please do a What’s in Your Bag with Kelly. 💕
Hi Cath, yes I still have my two Kelly’s although I’m thinking to let go of the retourne xx
Can you tell us what eyebrow pencil you use? Eyebrow tutorial wanted!!!!!!
Hi I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow wiz in ebony xx

Eileen, my next door neighbour buys from taobao regularly. So they often have deliveries of carton boxes. I think they are having troubles unpacking. So I noticed them leaving the carton boxes outside the door entrance during day time. Night time they keep the carton. So this in out in out ordeal continued for 3-4 days until they finally unpack. I find it hilarious. For me it's simple. Unless I find a spot for my new items, I am not buying. Why give yourself so much trouble? Lol
That sounds like quite a lot of work! I think it’s a bit like fast fashion, the low price point encourages people to keep buying things they don’t need xx
Kelly and Birkin Hermés bags are an investiment, not a waist of money. Most people who can do that, are buying this bags to Invest, not to use. It' depende on the luxury the people buy. I doesn' t buy any of them, because i' m not rich enough to spend my money on those things. Therefore, i' m a minimalist luxuary buyer.😭
I’m trying to cut down my handbag collection. How many do you have? I wondering what’s a reasonable amount for a handbag lover?
Handbag lover here. Once I hit 18 bags, it seemed like too much…I just wasn’t using some of the handbags. So I am in the middle of selling 3 of them, which brings me to 15. And I could probably sell 2 more. For a normal person, I feel like 12-15 would be a perfect number for a well curated collection. Part of it depends on your lifestyle, needs, etc, but this is what I have observed in my own experience. Good luck!
I think 10 is a good number. I currently have 7. Most important is you use them frequently.
In my luxury collection, I have 5 handbags, 1 clutch bag & 4 small leather goods which personally is the perfect amount for me.
Currently I own 10 but I’m definitely thinking to downsize this year xx
@@ColourfulNoir I was hoping you would say 20 as that’s what I have. 😂 I guess I should think about downsizing some more
Small leather goods are trash !🙅♀️ Expensive, poor quality, tiny as hell and not practical. I'd rather save to purshase a real bag. Over browsing make people endlessly unsatisfied and unhappy, that's what to me, make social medias and influencers toxic in a way. In a reality where nobody is starving or homeless, feeling bad about not having a love bracelet or a birking is freaking insane !!! 🥴🤔💕💕💕
I find stores and brands are also the issue. I’ve had to stop following LuxDuJour because of their marketing. It’s a lot of “ask hubby for his credit card” “buy this bag on credit” “get a sugar daddy”
It’s a turn off and exploits their consumers to go into debt and laugh about it just to get a Chanel and it’s cringe .
