I played in alpha2 and came way saying I can not buy the game till they completely overhaul combat. Now with the announcement of tiered early access I strongly recommend not buying this game currently. If they are willing to push tiered EA they will most likely have the WoW token they have been talking about.
For the prices they're charging, this EA has nothing to offer. I played the alpha2 and it's an empty shell of a game with nothing but time sink grinding to fill the void. No pets, no farming, no market, no mounts, broken unbalanced crafting, broken combat, and very limited building on crazy small plots that they're charging extra for. They even covered their butts by saying it was intended to be "Player Created Content" LOL! DOA
Everyone complaining about container size clearly didn't build the upgraded chests. Our alliance of 4 enjoyed the alpha2 but most of us have 2-3k hours in 7d2d and are builders. I would agree the grind can be a bit much, but kinda liked the fact it takes some work to get things rather than having them handed to you. It is what I miss about the original Star Wars Galaxies. Jedi was a major grind, but those of us that did were rewarded and we didn't have to pay to get there, just had to work for it. I also didn't find the combat that bad, though it took some getting used to. However, while I would have told you post alpha2 we would play in early access, the pricing is meaning we'll likely focus on the post early access release 1 of 7d2d instead. Biggest drawback for Pax Dei pricing is the plots. 1 plot in the cheapest option is rough. Having 2 per person in the alpha was almost the minimum required for the level of building our alliance wants to tackle. The best building recipes are in the highest priced $100 option which also comes with enough plots to build a respectable alliance village. $100 for a game that still feels like it has a ways to go is just more than we feel comfortable with. That with a future subscription model that kicks in in a year if they hit their targets is more than we want to shell out without seeing more of the future enhancements.
Soon as I noticed the small wooden chest had the same amount of slots as the reed chest I just made those, so much cheaper. I was hoping that any chest/box that isn't named "small" will have more slots.
@@DawnChatman there was an ornamental chest or something similar that required blacksmithing hinges that were early in the blacksmithing tree with way more spaces
i might play ea - the build system is awesome - im not sold on their subscription plans for after ea tho - they gonna have to have alot more than epic building to warrant a damn subscription - in fact the threat of sub guarantees i will only buy the cheapest ea package..... they should never mentioned sub at this point (the economy has to be vibrant - combat cant suck - and they cant be nazis about ppl selling in game items to eachother to even have a shot at sub working)
I played in the last alpha and while the game has a ton of potential, it needs work on the basics. Movement and combat are floatie and awkward. It felt pretty bad and that is the first thing I notice in any game I play. It is usually an immediate deal or no deal moment for me. Also gathering should feel and sound more realistic. I know it is a "hated" game but an example of hitting that aspect out of the park is New World. Despite it's issues, they nailed movement, combat feel, and gathering. It keeps me coming back even though there is a content drought. New World pretty much ruined almost all other MMO's for me because while it is a disaster in some regards, it is also the best feeling MMO I have ever played. I did give this same feedback during Pax Dei alpha.
I was in both A1 and A2; the combat does need a lot of work still, but the AI had improved somewhat, so it's going in the right direction but still a long way to go. Though I can appreciate why people who started first time in A2 might not think there was much improvement (but yes, it was actually even worse before lol). The performance stability is actually the biggest improvement overall. In A1, the game would struggle and stutter while they were doing tests on backend stuff on the last day when we all gathered together to cause a mess and push the system to its limits, but in A2 all those kinks seem to had been completely cleaned up. So content wise it was rather dry the differences between the two tests, but backend performance wise you could tell a lot of work had happened for the better. They know that lots of it still requires polishing though but for getting the baselines sorted, it's in good footing given that this is early alpha still.
Yeah i don't think the performance was that bad tbh. It's what I expected graphics and gameplay wise. I was just hoping to see a bit more improvements. However, I will say that there's a difference between seeing the combat from the first alpha and then playing it for the second alpha. I very well could be very misinformed here.
@@isth3reno1else - Just to give some examples of things that I noticed which were improved upon between the two: 1. Line of sight. This was quite a big one actually, as in A1 whenever you'd go to any open ruin or dungeon, you'd have fireballs from inquisitors flying at you through walls and terrain (if they're on different floors), and the same applied to arrows and zebian rangers/mages. In essence, line of sight just didn't exist. 2. Health bar and damage modifiers were yet to be applied to NPCs; so for instance you could kill a Lost Soul with 3 arrow shots, and solo Zebian dungeons in rather basic gear. 3. Stasis effects weren't being utilised by NPC; no dot modifiers from inquisitors, no parrying, no blocks, no stuns, no healing, etc. 4. Aggro range was very short, in which NPC would aggro on you then be running back and forth confused at whether to target you or not if you moved even a small distance away. We knew that the combat mechanics themselves were placeholders so few people made too much comment on that specifically other than acknowledging it was something the devs acknowledged was to be worked on still; but the AI system itself for NPC was something which got quite a bit of feedback and there were some definite improvements to that in A2 by comparison (though yes it definitely still has a lot of work to do). But even on a first impression in A2, if somebody reached the conclusion that it all still needed a lot of work they'd be right, I just wanted to point out that there has been improvement before to it showed things were at least going in the right direction but it would just take a bit of time to get it to a point where it feels really good. Wasn't trying to discredit any opinion just wanted to give a little perspective as someone who played in both the closed tests. :)
As long as the fix combat, include immersive lore that makes you wat to adventure, good pve content like dungeons, enemy camps, bosses, etc., and follow through on their promises to add mechanics for governance and group organization it should be dope.
My thoughts after playing A2 Awesome game for crafters who play with a guild. Very in depth cooking system with 20 different kinds of mushrooms so you can imagine how many meats etc there are. Combat was poor but it was alpha. Mobs magic bugged out to kill you a hundred yards away. Hopefully it will be better. Just the crafting system alone is keeping me in game. I can’t wait.
The story around 7:20 sounds like heaven to me. I love gathering, grinding, and producing products, but I think the problem is I've found I enjoy that more when I have a purpose for doing so - like to provide to other guildies to have them be stronger when they go out and fight. I've loosely followed this after some of the world building videos they made, but right now it seems like it's almost too PvE for me (played Palia and enjoyed it for a long stint, but it felt hollow after a while)....and I'm primarily a PvE player. Think I haven't seen enough to make me want to hop down off the fence on the side of supporting the game compared to other things already on the market, and I doubt I'll still remember this by the time it exits EA.
Because the game is too barebones right now, people will just max the crafting, make castles or towns and then quit, because there really isnt much else.
If this will just be a building/survival game, we have plenty of those games already and this will just be a more better looking Minecraft (with high res pack). No bosses, even Minecraft has that. If so there is a game in the works called Hytale. Basicly Minecraft but with MUCH more content. More building, weapons, mobs/bosses/caves etc. As for PvP, if you will always lose everything everytime you die and have to re-craft your entire gear over and over, even if you are floating with mats...pass.
Yeah, I love Conan Exiles, Rust and many survival games with building. I'm not impressed with the "Stability" of structures and the things that can be built in Conan and Rust are better IMO. I'm also very concerned about and "WoW Token" like thing and the fact they want a box price and a sub fee after that will raise the bar of entry for many people. I had a lot of high hopes the Pax Dei, but those hopes are DOA. I also wish them the best and will follow its' progress from a distance. If it's not P2W in a couple years maybe I'll look at it with more interest.
Have to agree. The game needs way more time and imo it is way too early to call it an EA. It's in alpha status and a lot of polishing needs to be done first. Smells like devs ran out of ideas on how to proceed and like some investors want to see money... The EA pricing has strengthened my opinion
I'm coming into this game thinking of large-scale Conan/Valheim type survival/crafting games. (Yes there's no hunger/thirst but have you seen the bears?). I don't mind the slower paced grind (Survival Fountain of Youth style). And I really enjoyed my time in Alpha 2. I'm not sure about the sub idea, the only MMO's I pay subs for are themepark RPG's with years worth of content. The only times I've paid for a survival/crafting game is if I rented my own server. (Minecraft, Conan, Valheim). So yah... I guess we'll see. I'll probably buy into it, $50 (CAD) is fine.
It is so Valheim like I tried to see if they had any shared devs. The crafting has almost the exact same stations. The harvestable rock types are the same. Valheim is Unity rather than Unreal and I couldn't find any articles on common dev team members. Still, Pax feels like it took a good chunk of the crafting and materials system ideas from Valheim.
I love how this looks. I kinda like the concept. I've never played on Unreal Engine befor and wanted to try it. I badgered sawmanUK to give me a code. PLayed it for about 6 hrs today. It looks cool. The land is cool. The crafting is sensible. However the utter lack of turorial or instruction makes ESO look like its a paragon of tutorials. Deleting build items is not intuitive. The lag was heinous so placing stuff was really aggravating. Trying to get to the rez point was failing for me, so that was annoying. But I've watched yours and sawman's streams on this and it is pretty much the same for new people as what you experienced. The combat was dreadful, although I expected that. The issue I see is how build up the areas are already, how are new people going to compete with that? I will be following because I like the bones but its very much not in a stste that is really playable, especially solo.
My wallet will be closed until I see that this game will bring as a finished product. Aka main release. Combat/Animations still need a lot of work. Condisering the devs also said everything will be wiped from the Alpha/Beta. Chopping wood/stone is miles away from New World as an example. *Serious question:* Will bow be good later on? As someone who has been a Hunter/Ranger lover ever since my first MMO (Daoc) back in 2001. For me, if it's just bad and only for range pulling, will be a dealbreaker for me and wallet 100% closed. What do you think I played in New World? Musket/Bow :D
After playing A2 for Pax Dei, I was very disappointed with the systems they had in place. Tier'd crafting with a fail chance is not fun game play to me. I don't want to spend an hour grinding mats to make "x" to then make "y" and have "y" fail every time...Add on top the combat was VERY bare bones and imo Pax Dei needs more time in the oven. Releasing the game, *AS IT STANDS NOW* into early access, is the wrong move. I will not be picking this up.
After watching your stream of this, yes, i know its an Alpha bit it still seems very floaty or console type movement. Hard pass for me. I do hope those that want this type of game have a ton of fun though. Its pretty, but thats about it for me.
So streamers are afraid to say the game is scam that wants money for an uncompleted game, similar to AoC scam (+9 years of development with no exact date of release any time soon)? Even Quinfall has more features than Pax Dei, Quinfall closed beta test is within this June and it does not ask any money too to test their games...
Its not a scam, all features that are in are working. And the devs clearly announed what it is and what it's not. There are just many features missing to make this a more rounded MMO.
The only thing I hate about when people say its only an Alpha it supposed to be shit. Is that most of these games stay shit or stay in EA for YEARS and change nothing or just give up since they got the money from all the people they were going to get it from when they made it in EA. I also feel combat should be something EA games need to get right first before anything else people will give up on a game or not buy it if the combat is trash because they don't enjoy the game long enough to test out the other content the games will have because the basic one they need to get right isn't being looked at or worked on first or at all. Hope this game doesn't turn out to be one of those games that stay in EA for years and just take peoples money and doesn't do anything because we need a new MMO.
Which games? This game is right up my alley, I'd love to hear about other games doing this better. Haven't been able to scratch the Pax Dei itch since their alpha 2 ended.
Im betting its gona be scam. There is nothing to do in game except grinding for building and its comming in one month. And crafting is borderline crazy. And thats it
It’s just the graphics and engine that’ll lure the people. But I know this game wont last. You’ll see the population player base high in 2-3 weeks, and then dead the next 2 months like Manor Lords. The combat is a big deal for me. I say this company or developer team is a cash grab cult.
I have to agree. Any game that don't even try to have combat. Is 🔥 💩. Plus they're already talking box price and a subscription and cash shop. Another waste, of a good idea and graphics engine.
i remember buying SCUM E.A for like 15€. game was really playable seriously but for this price it was ok. 40€to be limited because you should pay more i will don't buy if i'm not sure to pass time on it sorry.
Pax Dei is a huge "Time Sink" game. What takes you hours or days in a normal game, will take many hours, many days or weeks to do in Pax Dei. Early access will have server wipes on major updates. Wipe all my progress on major updates? No thanks. Wake me up when it is a real game, not a Star Citizen wipe-fest clone.
I personally wouldn't be against server wipes if there were more interesting things for me to do. What they currently have isn't really my type of game, which is more than ok. I just hope they flesh it out more than UE5 minecraft
I played both alphas. There is no game here. Boring after all the shiny. They have a very long way to go before they even make this an mmo proof of concept. There’s no mmo here yet.
game has potential, devs look like they play in a scandinavian heavy metal band, its 40euro. of cource i will support this project. Pax Dei all the way
You're repeating yourself a lot and stating the obvious. Did they say they would work on combat already ? It's a MMOG so it takes several years to develop. I don't know whats their final release timeframe but I'm not surprised if it would take 2-3 years. So basically early access will be in a state that isn't for everyone, nothing new. Kinda concerned about the monetization yea. Also poor quality footage :(
I was in Alpha 2 testing. I think people have the wrong impression about this game. I think they are expecting a normal MMO like WoW, with NPCs giving quests and stuff, and when they don't see it they freak out and call the game incomplete and barely done enough for Alpha testing let alone early access. But Pax Dei seems to be more of a open ended crafting/building game with some PVP slapped onto it to satisfy the hard core people. There is no storyline. There is no questing. And with this in mind the game works. I'm totally happy to just fight NPCs for crafting loot, be they boars/bears or evil bipeds in ruins. I will not be doing PVP. I don't care that there are no quests or constant combat like with normal MMOs. Granted I want to see more inventory/container slots and much larger inventory stack sizes as there are a literal mountain of resources to gather, but yeah it works for me. Once I got over my initial dissapointment over containers I enjoyed the game. It took me days to figure out how to create a chest. And once I made progress and got a bow and metal tipped spear the testing was over but I was hooked. And then I found myself profoundly missing the game.
I agree 100%. it's an MMO but not in the way of traditional sense that people are used to for an MMO. to me Pax is a world tou can not only play in but also live.
Yeah I don't expect quests, they said there wouldn't be any which I am more than ok with. The random quest giver is really fucking boring. What I do want to see is the world come to life. if you go into a dungeon, what's happening there? what evil creatures exist in the world? why? those sorts of things. The world given so far, it's just an alpha so I am not trying to harp on it too much. I just want to see more of what the world WILL be before i invest money personally. We're all different players that want different things though so that could just be me.
Problem is that there is no actual mmo features that most sandbox mmos have. No territory control, wars or features that support it. The game currently is only a pve survival game with a lot of people.
I purchased the cheapest tier cuz i really wanna try the game: 39,99€ seems a lot for an EA but… i was one of the people that purchased BG3 in 2021 on stadia for 50€ and that game was Not nearly close to the game that won goty 3 years later so… the price that devs are asking it’s acceptable
i will risk the 40 euros.. but i must say i dont have high hopes.. this game is 1 year away if they really work hardcore on it... or maybe 2 years if they take it slower..

Hope this game doesn't turn out to be one of those games that stay in EA for years and just take peoples money and doesn't do anything because we need a new MMO.
I don’t understand the hype for this game at all seems empty ! There are far better games already out like this
Like? Im rlly excited for what this game COULD be, as i cant think of similar mmos out there
Which games? This game is right up my alley, I'd love to hear about other games doing this better. Haven't been able to scratch the Pax Dei itch since their alpha 2 ended.
@@DapperHamster exactly what I'm sayin
Im betting its gona be scam. There is nothing to do in game except grinding for building and its comming in one month. And crafting is borderline crazy. And thats it
The only way I see this being fun is if people take RP serious
If there is no mounts for the EA, it will be a big no no for me. Exploration is what I enjoy the most but damn I hate running simulator
Another waste, of a good idea and graphics engine.
short answer, no.
im going to skip the game but maybe i will come back in a year to see how the game is doing
Any game that don't even try to have decent combat.
Has a box fee. And and subscription. And a Cash shop. Is 🔥 U.E5 💩. No thanks.
Build a house and pvp that all no thanks
They want to get paid and relax for 5years in early access, u just wait and see, it's Standart practise
i remember buying SCUM E.A for like 15€. game was really playable seriously but for this price it was ok.
Can you play this game using a controller? PS5, or Xbox controller?
No idea, I didn't try
I played both alphas. There is no game here. Boring after all the shiny. They have a very long way to go before they even make this an mmo proof of concept. There’s no mmo here yet.
game has potential, devs look like they play in a scandinavian heavy metal band, its 40euro. of cource i will support this project. Pax Dei all the way
Its $100 for everything with 4 plots.
@@pipz420 plus subscription. and pay for extra plots. Its a money grabbing game with no content basically, people are so fooled
Another perpetual EA game that nvr releases but still money grabs on poor sots. Yay! Let's make even more survival games.
not worth the money
Is going to be another fail, the base seems bad thats why the combat etc is bad. will be seeing alot of bandaids on it with very little result.
R.I.P.
Also poor quality footage :(
My point is that the placeholder combat and the combat they wanted feedback on didn't seem that different, and they pushed EA anyway.
That's what I'm saying, MMORPG doesn't mean it needs to have a storyline or whatsoever.
I agree 100%. it's an MMO but not in the way of traditional sense that people are used to for an MMO.
to me Pax is a world tou can not only play in but also live.
Agreed 👍
No.
I purchased the cheapest tier cuz i really wanna try the game: 39,99€ seems a lot for an EA but… i was one of the people that purchased BG3 in 2021 on stadia for 50€ and that game was Not nearly close to the game that won goty 3 years later so… the price that devs are asking it’s acceptable
there is always worse my friend ;-)
i will risk the 40 euros.. but i must say i dont have high hopes.. this game is 1 year away if they really work hardcore on it... or maybe 2 years if they take it slower..
buy the game
Does this game just look like shit when you move?
I had to lower the settings really low to get it to perform well. Just not optimized well yet
