This rug idea is the stupidest I've ever seen. Using duct tape because you are too lazy to sew! And dish towels are not safe to walk on, they wrinkle up and become a tripping hazard.
The duct tapped rug will get dirty. Not able to be washed without redoing it and wasting the duct tape. A lot of your ideas are good, but some don't last.

Careful w those lampshades. A lot of them at thrift stores are old and brittle, they crack easily and won't stand up to any weight placed on top.
