Izzy weakness is his grappling. Takedown defense is wonderful, but on the odd chance that does happen he is 100 percent vulnerable to being choked and tapped in seconds.
You have to be well-rounded on the ground. Just relying on takedown defense isn't enough , if the over guy is relentless/ sneaks it in under you nose when you think you have it in the bag. DDP looked lethargic contained and figured out in championship rounds, up until he didn't .

Yea I don't get it either, but think about this, how insane would it be if Rountree wins? That's obviously a long shot, I think Pereira is gonna punch his ears into the front row in 2 minutes, or maybe make him suffer for 5 minutes, I think it's gonna be a massacre. But Rountree isn't a chump, he's a tough dude and he's determined. He would be one of the biggest underdog champs in history.
The UFC was never about meritocracy. It's always been about putting on exciting fights that sell ppv and more recently ESPN+ subscriptions

WE ALL didn't dismiss Izzys loss to Sean as a "bad performance" Chael. Even DDP said he realized what really happened when HE fought Sean and said Sean is hard to hit. He keeps moving forward while being hard to hit making him a perfect counter to a counter-striker. Izzy got dog-walked for the same reason Costa looked like an amateur and DDP had to "win" by split decision with his face beat to crap.
There are only 2 things that affect the odds:
1. Predicting what gamblers will do with their money.
2. Reacting to what gamblers do with their money.
There is never any professional assessment of skill or expert analysis. It's about collecting a guaranteed vig no matter who wins, not predicting the actual winner.
I say this with respect. Dricus is the most mentally tough fighter that has entered the UFC within the last 10 years. There is not a single second in a fight where he has quit. Watch his first ever loss. He went untill he was exhausted and chocked out cold, did not stop trying until he physically could not resist his opponent anymore. And he still didn't tap.
We have seen Izzy cry, we have seen him craxk, we have seen him give up. Many many times. We have seen him slow down, and take things easy. Dricus does not stop untill physics make him stop.
In the tough guy business, he rules supreme.

We have zero evidence, literally, that dricus would give up. We have seen Izzy crack mentally. Based on that, you have to admit that dricus is a different beast, to Izzy, and relative to everyone Izzy has fought, outside maybe Alex, who also hasn't cracked mentally.

Yoel isn’t a benchmark for wrestling prowess. Brunson is. Izzy didn’t wrestle Brunson. He was grabbed repeatedly by single leg attempts without even a set up then pushed against the cage. Yes, he wiggled out of them, but he had no issues grabbing him. Izzy couldn’t even slow his shooting until the 5th one during a scramble where I’m not even sure was meant for a ducking Brunson but I will happily give him the benefit of the doubt. No one has ever tried to grab Izzy while being a threat at close range on the feet as well in this division. He found that at LH and lost.
