@@JohnHenkamGangte That 20lk price is before on road costs. Depending on the state here in India, you have to pay 2-3 lk more (Taxes, Insurance, Reg. etc). That 18lk price for the jimny is drive away pricing and again, it varies by state. In my state, the top spec Jimny with AT costs 17lk drive away. One advantage the Jimny has that because its is less than 4m in length, has less than (or equal to) a 1.5 litre engine and costs less than 20lk before on road costs, its in a lower tax bracket. If you match the spec of the Jimny (Petrol, AT and similar (or more) features) with the MX3 AT RWD variant of the Thar, they are both exactly the same price drive away. (Where I live at least)

Thar is a emotion in India. This is what the world wanted to make.
It took Indian engineers to design one, and it will last longer than 20 years easily.
Low maintenance, zero fuzz, Strong, Heavy and Safe.
Price is not important here, it's the product and the panels may not be 100% flush and premium but they will outlast even cars way above it's price bracket.

Seen the pricing on new Jeeps here in Australia....$92K for the SWB 2 door. I thought for sure that was some kind of error...but no. $89K for the 4 door? Just what in the actual hell. You'd have to be functionally brain dead to spend that on a Jeep.

For those who don't know, 2 Jeep families have been running in parallel since the first Willy's Jeep was introduced in 1940's. One is the US family now owned by FCA/Stellantis and other is the Indian family owned by Mahindra. Mahindra started out in 1949 by assembling Willy's CJ2A under license. Then in 1953, they bought full rights to make, modify and sell Jeep CJ3B in their own name, in India. They even had a temporary license to use 'Jeep' brand name, which expired in late 1980's. So Mahindra has been continuously making and evolving Jeep based products since last 70+ years. Every Mahindra body on frame UV is an evolution of Jeep CJ3B. Unlike Jeep/FCA, Mahindra's focus has been on reliability, durability and being VFM. That's why FCA fears Mahindra. But with gen 2 Thar, Mahindra did copy the exterior aesthetics of Jeep Wrangler. Now both Thar and Wrangler are kind of cousins since both of them share a common ancestor in Jeep CJ3B. But despite the high demand, Mahindra cannot sell the Thar anywhere else in the world. Because they own rights only in India. They could have done things differently, but they chose to copy Wrangler's design aesthetics, which is not agreeable.

Very true. I'd be very proud to call Thar the only Indian offroader. Yet they copied Jeep Wrangler again

Consider this too, ex-showroom price (12.99L for petrol) Thar has got at least 50% taxes (GST+cess) included in it. ie the actual price of car with manufacturer & dealer profit is around 8.66L.
Then we got to pay 2.01 L as Road Tax, another 80k in insurance and 15k for TCS.
And petrol is taxed around 100-120% depending on state.

Watched the Indian review. The vehicle has some big problems like:
    1. Impractical front grill that will just be a bug catcher
    2. The rear seats don't fold flat
    3. There is no hybrid version
    4. The premium versions are overpriced. I.e. silly pricing.
Otherwise I'd buy off performance on the basis of Mahindra ute. Style before function.

Still cheaper than most equivalent offerings (do they even exist tbh?) on the Australian market.
Only reason to not buy a mahindra in Oz is poor spare parts availability and possibly resale value due to low brand recognition.
Otherwise Mahindra has reliability down pat.
I’ve personally seen Mahindra cars from the 2000s with 600-700k kms on the odometer still going strong.

@@chukhuthollu5471 They don't work that way. The running parts (the parts that undergo wear & tear) have far better quality than your avg american or german product. Quality of trim is where they might do some cost cutting. So you need to understand brand Mahindra deeply to know where they are cutting costs. If you face any prblms with wear & tear parts in warranty period (3 yrs avg), they will replace it w/no fuss & no questions asked.
