GamingSage seriously. Within 20 seconds of him putting it in, he is playing. Unlike with Xbox and PS4 which take ages to download and then they usually require an update so that's a couple hours

Eddie R breath of the wild is 17 Gigs and is also able to be played in 30 seconds. It takes 2 hours minimum to download a game that size.
EmpoleonBob Xbox had plenty of options at launch, with Forza, killer instinct, dead rising and ryse son of Rome to the many third party titles that the system had like cod, battlefield, need for speed, assassins creed etc. The Switch literally has Zelda and that's it, the rest are shovelware that no-one is going to buy expect for maybe 1-2 Switch which will appeal to children

Micah Joel Geimer rather have everything on 1 device + ability to plug into a TV setup while watching on mobile
So, the Switch loads as fast as the old NES, SNES, and Genesis cartridge based systems. In other words, there is no longer any advantage to using optical medium, save perhaps cost. If games load as fast from Micro SD, then downloaders could have entire libraries on a few 128 Gig chips....
Which is why I don't understand people saying disk > cartridge, there isn't that much of an advantage with disks anymore

Yeah pretty much. Nintendo got flak for sticking with cartridges on the N64 because back then they cost more and couldn't store as much data as discs. But on the other hand load times were really fast, in some cases almost nonexistent. Now that cartridges are able to hold so much data, and because the speed of discs is so much slower, cartridges will (hopefully) become the main way to buy physical games (IF Sony/Microsoft's next consoles will make that change.) I am really looking forward to that, because cartridges are a lot harder to damage than discs, and take up less room.
Brandon Barefoot I hate discs especially preowned because they scratch soooooo easily and then they can get destroyed then you have to buy another disc and it's just one whole convoluted process. Thank god we may see the end of this garbage and finally get a reliable form of media. My SNES cartridges work better than my PS4 discs lol.
Optical media is obsolete at this point. Most modern computers don't come with a optical drive unless you specifically ask for one.
Micro SD are a little more expensive than blu rays tho, but i don't even know why they still sell blu rays when you must download patch which has double more GB than game itself...

Sarcasm aside, one of my least favourite things ever is being really excited about a new game, staying up late for the midnight launch, then coming home and of course you have to install forever, so you end up actually just going to bed. Really steals the thunder.
Brings me back to the good old days of the ds lite with no need for wifi. Just get a couple of friends and do local multiplayer.

Yep, that's about the average time a 1, 2 Switch catridge will be in your Switch before you take it out and never play it again.
switchforce is showing different experiences that you will have with the switch, for some reason no one else is doing this, like playing on a plane or in the bed. Much respect.
I'm staring to think the Switch is just literally a portable handheld like the DS that just so happens to have an HDMI cable that plugs into a dock just to give the illusion of an actual home console.

RuDoe Ry you could lose a cart and buy a digital version instead. That's what happened to me with Smash for the 3DS. I lost my cartridge, and eventually gave up looking for it and just bought a digital version that I couldn't lose.
Now that I think about it, everytime you go out to buy a new Switch game, you can take the Switch itself and play your new game as soon as you get it.

Justin Probably it's probably like most recent thing or something like ps4 or a mix of that and 3ds so games you're playing have a fixed spot and move on when played to it but other apps just stay lined up maybe in download order

This is why I love cartridges. No load times, no initial install, compact, not easily scratched/damaged and generally hip!
Note: I don't even have nostalgia for the NES or SNES (I wasn't alive then) But juts by a technical standpoint the only drawback is there isn't as much space as on a disk.

Vagabundo hardly anyone uses paper manuals these days most manuals are digital or the game just has tutorials built into it

This is a breath of fresh air from the Xbox One install times.
Kind of amusing seeing all the comments freaking out over no load times... like does no one understand how cartridges work? lol
Onizen well, this is the first console in while to use cartridges. I'm not counting the DS family because it was strictly hand held.
Thing is, the Wii, Wii U, and every PlayStation and Xbox EVER, used discs. Even on the PC games are either downloaded or on a disc which still results in downloads. Since PS4 and X1 it was also nessecarry to install games. A simple "Put in and play" was no longer possible either.
See why people are freaking out? It's because none of the current gaming systems have something like that because they all rely on discs and installations, and imo I actually like cartridges more because they are less fragile. I mean, we all know how easily scratchable those discs are, or the fear of breaking them in half when trying to get them out of the case. I sure had that when I bought GTA 5.... for the PC..... 7 freaking discs + loads of update data.

You know, people are bashing the Switch for being less powerful than the PS4 or X1 but forget that PS4 and X1 games are usually 40-50 GB worth of files that need to be installed.
500 GB of storage for a PS4 isn't much when literally every AAA game you have has a filesize like that.
Looks like a faster version of how the Vita handles cartridge games. I like it.
