This was really helpful! To be honest recently I was thinking it would be so nice to have someone explain the whole shooting process and here it is! And just in time, as I have my shooting day next week for a little short I'm filming. Thank you!
Btw, you planning to make a part 2, about post? Thank would be just amazing.

It was absolutely terrific! Its very nice to see all the stuff that you went through. Thanks for the gear tips as well. I am looking for a new tripod so if you thought this one was dope, it probably is. And I like the small slider on the tripod. Super cool. I guess one my problems is lighting. I need to learn more about that. Peace out! I totally appreciate this channel very much!

It was immediately after binging on some of this tasteeeey D4Darious content that I created and posted my one and only RUclips video. I'm not counting 33 seconds of scrambled egg cooking uploaded in 2007 and lost in RUclips's attic forever. I've got a fresh cup of coffee, the air conditioner just started taking the humidity out of the room, and my bing clicking finger is all warmed up. The best teachers make learning fun. • @MGPRaleigh

Great video bro. The one thing I would say is that you backlit through a window from outside with plenty of light leak from outside. No source of light you add is as bright as sunlight directly. You don't have to listen but a variable ND would've been nice to balance out the wash out from the light differential, and more key and fill to balance out would balance out a bit better in my opinion.
Also I recommend you make a set lighting map to have your distances from subjects marked and angles of lighting mapped out so you don't have to leave it in place, or if for some reason you lose footage you can match it exactly. Great video tutorial though.

Hey Darious, I'm seeking ideas for short film documentary type videos for my channel. There's one big twist though which is I'm limited to using only stock footage & b roll to create my videos, no actors/interviews etc. Although this style of creating videos is widely frowned upon by professional filmmakers who shoot their own scenes etc, it's something I enjoy doing & find very convenient & affordable. Long story short, I used to make daily/weekly videos w/minimal dialogue on various current events via creative commons using licensed stock footage in addition to 3rd party news clips/archive footage etc. The result was a mix between a dramatic short film/unorthodox doc.. Due to recent RUclips policy changes which now require original commentary for videos, I've been left w/no other option but to delete nearly all my preexisting content & millions of views. I'm now in the stages of starting over from scratch in attempts to salvage my channel that I worked so hard on creating. My new plan is something completely different which is foreign to me, & that includes incorporating original scripts for each video which will be narrated by a voice over artist & written by an award winning screenwriter... The goal is to create informative proper short film docs minus the traditional format which includes interviewees etc as previously mentioned.. Since I previously made videos with no script or dialogue & rather just "winged it" on each video given my frequent upload rate, I'm now having an extremely difficult time coming up with new ideas. I mainly focused on geopolitical tensions & day to day news/current events instead of topics that were thought of in advance & created from scratch. The only genres I've come up with so far include humanitarian issues, climate matters, endangered species, sci-fi/space, military & politics. Although I can branch out on these various topics I'm looking to expand the list for more options. The transition from video news journalism to narrated short films is much tougher than I ever anticipated. Any opinions or advice would be welcomed & greatly appreciated!

    Hey Darious....
Where did you get that Swashplate Spherical bearing that was sitting on your table at video time-code 5:01 in your video?

Very helpful! Not only for the setups and process of making a short film, but also for the thinking that goes into it.

Bro, this is one of the best how to videos hands down. You get straight to the point, and give great visuals on exact details!! Great video my guy!!! Thanks!!!

Who else is still watching this over a year later?! So inspiring, helps having inspiration like this when you're almost a year into regularly posting content and still on 200 subs!

Really loved watching this so far heading to bed now. Amazing amount of takes and work. Even though it is a DIY shoot it really resembles a pro shoot.

I like that you're using a 60D and a nifty fifty . There's so much (perceived?) emphasis on having/getting "better/newer" gear that its easy to lose focus on craft. This video is inspiring not just for your process and craft but also for the gear you used. Its also fun; thanks for posting.
