  • Leather Craft - LEATHER FEATHER ART - Leather Working. Hand carved feather with leather tools and vegetable tanned leather. How to color leather with oil. Leather craft ideas for art projects as well as craft shows. DIY leather craft project. The leather I carved my Eagle Feather design into is called vegetable tanned saddle skirting also know as veg-tan leather. Olive Oil is the oil I am using to color my feather and it will take a day or so for the feather to color out the way I want it to so I must have patience and wait in between coats of oil and not over do the process all at once.
Thanks for watching my RUclips videos.

I use olive oil on almost every project I do to add my base color. I then do whatever stain, dye, or antique I want. Sometimes, I just add a finish over the oil because I like that look also. In my opinion, olive oil is superior to neatsfoot.

You are right Olive Oil sure does produce a rich color. Thanks for your comment.

That is beautiful! I am going to have to try that sometime. I have a friend that wants me to make a holder for his turkey box call to fit on his belt. I think a feather on the outside would make it look nice. Thanks for the video.

you R the master my friend! What do you seal it with, will the oil mix or spread into your sealant?

This was really cool to watch, how do you think it would look if you oiled it following the lines instead of the crosshatch?

@@cheaneysaddles Good to know, I tried carviny my own feather yesterday for the first time and I can't wait to color it. Also how did you know when you should be reapplying oil throughout the day?
