@@daidavies6210 well its a good job your not then isnt it, nothing worse than a karen in the planning office, if anything what they are doing is helping the environment by encouraging wildlife and the grass roof for the bees and insects, renewable energy for there power so they are not relying on main line power reducing there carbon footprint and filtered rain water and by using the containers they are not going to waste or being dumped in landfill or left to rot, more power to them i say more people should do this in fact it would reduce homelessness in the big cities if people opened container villages with minimal outlay, and if your that bothered by the look of them they can be disguised with cladding etc.

Kenzie, What if you build some matching items around property from the off cuts of steel ? You could build a shelter for the dogs, part open part enclosed for year round use... What about rain shields/shades over windows or porch front door areas ? Will guest house have a porch, or walkway connecting to your home to keep out of mud etc ? If so, a set of solar panels could add a little juice to power that system separately while shielding from rain, etc.

I must have been the only person who wasn't melting snow, so I could flush the toilet! I try to be prepared for everything I think can go wrong.

Again, I really recommend looking at insofast it'll save you a lot of time on shipping container framing. InSoFast is shipping container insulation that doubles as framing as it's glued to the wall and you don't have to deal with spray foam and you won't have the condensation issues that shipping containers have using this insulation and doesn't take as much space as traditional framing does, so you don't lose much space and you're done with the cabin or home faster. Look up "InSoFast shipping container framing insulation". Framing is good until it rots in a container then you have to rip everything out and redo it.

After a month cutting the container for doors and windows, it seems that the strength could be compromised in the middle. A 40ft span between support, and ondulated steel removed at many place, now only rely on the bottom and top rails and the square tubings for the windows/doors openings. Adding interior vertical beams welded to the corrugated steel and top/bottom beams between opennings would help a lot to avoid the container to become a banana.

This should be an interesting season of trial and error with all the different windows and doors that this cabin incorporates it will be the interior layout that will define it along with the Kenzie touch as Spencer has his all over it right now it really is amazing how the kids have literally grown up on your channel in such a short time they are destined to follow mom and dad be careful and stay safe my friends God love ♥ ya both

To check the level in the water tanks without climbing up, take a plastic jug and fill with some sand. Put it in the tank. Tie a light cable to it. Drill a small hole in the tank near the top and fish the wire out thru it. Attack a couple of pullies to the outside of the tank so the cable can go over the side of the tank. Take a short (6 inches) piece of pvc tubing. Fill it with sand and cap both ends. Tie the cable to the pvc pipe so it is at about ground level when the tank is full. As the water in the tank goes down the pvc goes up.

Yes naturally make a mini container storage shed or garden shed made from the scrapes ,then trim with leftover wood from the interior build of this one. Was I The only person that noticed the deer being perfectly content in the background when Spenc was talking about the liner for the welder thingy?🥰 Thanks for bring us along on your journey great vlog oh yes I love it when you show the homey porch lights at the end of the day. Gives a warm comfy feeling like hot tea on a cold night.

If Spencer had been this fast at the start they would have finished six months earlier, it's amazing how experience aids work flow. I love how he never gets flustered and just fixes anything that is not up to scratch or goes wrong, and had to tease his wife that he had located the window 2 feet out of place.

You only need to install a see through plastic pipe at the bottom and top on the tank, put a bright color plastic ball in the pipe and you can see the water level without going up the ladder. 😎

Great job Spencer. so many openings means much more light, The amount of offcuts would be enough to build a seperate bathroom. Kenzie your video's are so good and very professional. your editing is first class. I always love your videos, the kids are absolutely adorable.

Christmas week Winter Storm. Wish you guy's the best in dealing with it. The news has been talking about the storm for days non-stop. It will be very cold in the south for sure. Will be interesting to see how you make out this time around with the additional solar panels.

I so admire the both of you. I’m a typical girl that grew up in the 60’s. I recently retired from working 25 years at a university in Florida. I’m fortunate that I’m getting a pension and social security. New employees will not be getting a pension. They will just be getting what is called a 403 b plan, which basically takes some of their money ( not sure if the university matches it) and saves it for them probably putting into an account that makes money for them. You both are fortunate that you have a home that you built on your own land and live off grid. I so commend you for this!! Your time is invested in doing for yourselves constantly building and creating so that you rely on yourselves and not outside companies. How do you get your internet? From a vendor? Satellite? How does that work? Again, I admire the life you have and all the others who have built their own homes and live off grid!! I so enjoy your videos.

In addition to the liner on your welding machine you really need small replaceable wire wipe pads available at a local welding supply company. These go on the wire just before the rollers. The biggest reason for liner failure is over tight pressure on the roller feeding your wire into the liner. Basically a tight roller will cause galling of the wire which in turn draws powered metal into the liner. You tube has some good videos on setting up the tension on wire feed rollers. Have enjoyed your channel. Keep up the great work.

My suggestion for the cut out pieces, make a opening window canopy with gas struts that can close to make a storm cover for the window, I’ve seen it done a couple times and thought it was a genius idea that has dual purpose. My question, will you do water catchment and utilise the surface area from that roof too. 💖💪🏼 you guys rock and I love your channel

You guys are great together. Here’s a bit of free advice…..when you finish this project, start planning on how you are going to add extra bedroom for those kiddos. As a father of twin daughters and now 5 granddaughters, there’s never enough space for girls and all their shoes, clothes, sleep overs, etc.

I think when you guys finish this project, You should either do a two-story container cabin... Or maybe build a new barn? Being how easily those containers stack, I think a two or three-story building would be awesome.
