Yes, build your porch bigger than you think you’ll need. Rainy days won’t be so bad. Not to mention packing and unpacking. Somewhere to pile everything while you get situated. You won’t have to worry about stuff sitting in snow or rain. Trust me big big porch.
☝️ whatsup is right, build it bigger. I built a deck, everyone told me it was too big. My wallet agreed. I disagree; more outside living space is worth every square foot and strained muscle.
My porch is about 16 x 32 and there are days I wish it was bigger. I can sacrifice a smaller inside space if I have a large outside space with a covered porch. You will probably need one with screens for the bugs but plan as big as you think you will need and then double that.
My parents poured and built the porch in my childhood home, with free kid labor! LOL They built it along the side of the ranch style house we had, 75’Lx6’W. They added electric ceiling fans with lights, outdoor kitchen and a kegerator the following summer. Everyone kept telling them it was too big and fancy. So they decided they needed the back of the house porched in as well the summer after that. LOL. One summer about 2 years later three neighbors did the same. These were some of the ones who said ours was too big and fancy, and never pitched in to help, but sure did ask my dad to. He did help a little, but with working and running 3 business and raising 9 kids, his time was limited. I miss that house and that porch. Sooo many fun memories of playing out there with my siblings, and family gatherings. Best part was none of the furniture matched because family brought their own chairs and left them for next time! It was awesome!
I got poison oak or poison ivy in my eye's when I was little and they hurt so bad. My eye's swelled shout for day's don't let the kid's get in it more than they have. My dad could mess with it and not break out except one time when he wound it around his are to pull it out of a tree and he just had stripes around his arm where the vine was. Love to you all!❤
I used to get it from head to toe as a kid…..as I got older, I still got some wicked cases. One, from fire wood covered in vines with no leaves, so it was disguised 🫣…….I got a series of shots after that, but my immunity wore off. I still get the odd case on my arms and ankles from routine yard work (I live on a wooded lot)…..but deal with it using hydrocortisone cream for the itch…..HATE THE STUFF.
@@phyllisanngodfrey6137 The bad thing about poison ivy is many times, you don't know you came into contact with it, until you break out in a rash. Even if you know you came into contact with it, you can't see where it is on your skin. I have found rubbing the skin hard with a wet washcloth or rag with some Dawn dish soap (then rinsing off) on the areas where I suspect I had contact helps reduce the severity and duration of the rash. Afterwards, I wet a rag with bleach and rub that on the skin as well, usually let it dry and then rinse off. Even if I miss an area and start breaking out, rubbing bleach on the area and rinsing will remove the oil and lessen the severity of the rash. The key is getting as much of the oil off of your skin as possible--the sooner, the better.
UK based 100 acre sheep farmer here, slowly bringing a 400 year old traditional stone banked farm back into the sunlight after 75 years of abandonment. You’re both doing an amazing job with the place, it’s going to be beautiful. I know exactly how much work it takes to recover a once occupied place back from that amount of scrub tree and native species overgrowth, with just a small tractor and a few basic implements. Doing it with 3 kids to keep safe and happy too, well done! Mine are grown up and doing their own thing so I don’t have that extra commitment. Something that might be useful to you next time you want to light a firepit - mix up about 80% diesel / 20% gasoline, shake it up well and use about half as much as you did, your eyebrows will last much better and the longer burn time of the mix will get things going nicely. It’s a heck of a lot less explosive than straight gas and I’m guessing you’re a good trip from the nearest hospital burns unit, not a place you ever want to visit ‘cause it’s a lot of suck and the staff tend towards being a bit unsympathetic when they’re told that it was straight gas and you lit it deliberately. Not that I might have been down that road, nooo, of course not… 😁👍
It was a lot more fun to watch you dig a hole and burn the old wood, then taking it to the dump. Plus, the wood charcoal gives the earth nutrients for the plants.
I was born and raised on our family farm with the closest neighbor being a mile away and the closest neighbor with children more than three miles away. I say this in reference to growing up without playmates. Like your children, i did have an older brother. We spent everyday somewhere out on the farm. I'm sure we could tell you when every baby chick was born, how many cows we had, the names of all the lambs and what each tractor was for. Still to this very day (mind you I'm 73 now) many conversations start out with, "At the farm, we did it this way..., or "When i was little we would...." Your sweet kids are living the best life and will never be without a story of their lives growing up. May God Bless you all as you live in your own Garden of Eden ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the rock wall. It is going to look beautiful behind (in front) your cabin. Plus, it's part of the original homestead, so it has nostalgia. I can't wait for the day the cabin is up on the mountain, and to see where the build goes. Hugs to all 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
We use goats in California to get rid of all the underbrush. An electric fence keeps them where they need to clear and, with extra food and water, and a safe structure to sleep in, is all you need. As each place is cleared, simply move the fence. If there’s goats around the area, they might rent a few to you for this.
@@MIREALTORSTEVE Thanks for the tip! I have tons of poison ivy on my country property and was wondering how I can get rid of it without using chemicals.

12:13 Those little snores... so very sweet. You two together are so much fun to watch. Marriage and raising children can be hard. Your respect and love for each other is obvious, along with the laughter is a shining example of a firm union. Your family is unstoppable.
We lived in a camp trailer for like 2 and a half years. I buried a 55 gallon plastic drum to use as a septic tank and ran the liquid to a spot where it could seep into the ground. It worked for us. We also built a out house. Never did a shower house. We finally got our home built and was able to move in it. Been here over 30 years now. Don't want to ever go camping anymore now. Before living in the camp trailer, we would take weekends tent camping quite often.
My thoughts for the shower...If you build the shower floor, include a 'front porch' next to the door. This will allow you to have a cable bridge from there to the edge of the road where the starting anchor platform is. If you get a pair of cables and run them between platforms, you need only to clamp them in pairs (picture an Oreo cookie) and screw them together over the cables. This will allow you to have a flexible bridge that also allows water to fall between the boards. You just have to tighten the cables till the bridge does not sag much. This also preserves your fern gully. You can get a piece of plywood and cut it to form triangles. Angle and cut these triangles down so they meet in the middle. Put a drain hole and 45-degree pipe in the center. Tape the seams with zip tape. Paint the plywood with primer and exterior paint. Lay down some heavy-duty plastic to waterproof then PVC the drain down to the ground and along the trench. Bury the pipe and plant so local grass seed. Finally, build the shower floor. If you allow the water to just fall to the ground it will gradually erode around the post bases. I have built these outdoor showers many times. I have just used a small propane heater to make hot water. A mixing valve then brings the water even. Use copper pipe so it looks nicer inside but be sure to put pipe insulation around the pipes for winter. I install a clear roof panel to allow light into the shower area. Consider too keeping a camp toilet in the same area in case the kids have a sudden urge.
The drain of the shower may work for a few years, but rain and dust will quickly clog the drain again. A layer of pond liner under the shower and then a pipe to the ditch and you will enjoy it for years.

Had the same issue at my dump almost $300 first load. Been cleaning 30 acres little by little for years. Dig burn pit, keep pile dirt handy, burn everything and bury the remains. Rotten wood will burn or dissolve eventually. If your really worried about nails buy a rolling magnet. Btw that backhoe looks sooo cute on that big tractor.
Hello from Australia. I've never posted before but just wanted to let you know that I have watched you guys for years and love when you drop a new episode. I've really enjoyed watching your family expand and looking forward to seeing what you get up to next.
That was so cool! And I’ve built big gasoline fires, but there was something about it being underground that just made it even more cool! Spenser even let “Papa” do it!! I like a man who doesn’t always have to be the one to do the thing just to be cool! By the way, there’s a tiny bit of pyromaniac in me! It really was an awesome fire & got going & kept going & got rid of that wood really quick! Did you know that there are probably still coals smoldering underground? Really!! If there were a lot & you didn’t dump water on it & thoroughly put it out, it can even travel up roots. Underground fire is a real thing. Just a fun fact! There’s no danger. We need a drone shot with the cabin area marked on it. By the way, that rock wall is gorgeous!! So beautiful now that it’s exposed!!! You guys are so cool! Kenzie, great filming & editing & momming! Spenser, great job at everything else! Papa & Nana, great job helping out! Kids, keep being adorable! I know, I’m weird! So much love to you all from Oregon! ♥️ Jess
I love all old stone walls ….I think it is fascinating the way the old builders could build them with no cement and they stay put ….that’s so beautiful…..I love the old English countryside with all the hedges and stone walls
Everything is looking great . I know it’s time consuming when you have no one to help, I can’t even imagine but Spencer he’s amazing with his determination to get it done no matter what. The end result I can hardly wait, it’s going to be awesome. Keep safe God Bless your beautiful family.
Wow. It’s been about 4 years since I watched your videos. In the beginning I watched every video and I watched you complete your home. I’m not sure why I quit watching because I really was very entertained by your hard work and Spencer’s ability to build anything. He’s truly a Jack of all trades. Now I see the children are really growing fast. I’m glad to see you’re both still doing what you love and I applaud you both on your tenacity and willing to make it all work It’s really great to see you again. I feel like I’m seeing two old friends. Congratulations on your success.
Awesome. The area is beautiful,so excited for you and the family 🥰 Such a great place for the children to grow up,between the mountains and your other house.
Spencer, invest in a big Neodymium magnet, one with a 300kg capacity. If you tie it on a bit of rope and walk around swinging it just over ground level it will find all the nails and even lift the ones buried shallow out of the ground. A regular house block can be cleaned up after roofers have thrown them all over in 10 min flat. What you guys did was also fun bonding family time, super sweet you are so concerned with kids not stepping on nails.
You should use the rotten wood in a raised bed. ITs a great way to fill the bed without using alot of dirt. As the wood breaks down it feeds your soil!!. Could grow alot of food this way! Its called hugo culture
It would make for interesting content if you bought a metal detector and went through various areas of your property checking for metals, for example along the rock wall, or other high traffic areas. Thank you to Spencer's mom for bringing him into the world. Have a good week!
with the pace of our world today and the attachment to tech, your channel is a delightful change of pace. i look forward to all the new videos! exciting to see how far you’ve come. you guys are amazing!
What a beautiful place to raise your family. It is a joy to watch your progress. You may have thought of this already, but creating a site map to draw in structures, buried pipes or debris etc would be a great record to keep. I know that over the years we forgot where we had located a French drain (it got buried in fallen leaves) and overgrowth including the dreaded poison ivy would take over equipment or wood stacked waiting to be brought in and split.
My daughter and I are both extremely allergic to poison ivy. Seriously end up in the hospital because our bronchial swell up as well. We 100% stay away from it .. its no joke
Happy Weekend Mrs. and Mrs Spencer well to have a great marriage is to have a sense of humor with it you guys always finished each other sentences this is why i keep coming back for more once a week is just not enough for me Spencer is doing a great job with the trailer home i hope to see more of it i know while you are all filming ahead the baby is growing fast the kids are too keep safe stay healthy see you all next week

Spencer you look very nice with your beard. And McKenzie (I hope I spelled that right) you're such a good mom and you're beautiful too! I can't wait to see when you're all done with it! It will be so fun! Try for sharing your journey and 😮God bless you all. 💓😊💕
There IS a pretty cool tool that roofers use to collect their dropped nails... it's like a very powerful magnet on wheels. I borrowed one when I did my roof and managed to get all the nails... pretty much. I collected them and then made garden beds all the way around the house and didn't find a stray nail at least in that area - so it worked. Just thought you'd want to know if you didn't already.
You all were very wise with how you handled the destruction of the wood. I had to repair my sewer line twice because trash trenches weren't illegal when my house was built. I mean really, who rests a main sewer line on a big tree trunk expecting the trunk to keep shape forever? Sheesh!!! Regarding the manly hair growth, I also wanted my husband to have hair long enough to be pulled back. Bless his heart, he tried very hard to accommodate me, but his hair had thinned to such a degree, that it just made more sense to cut it one length overall. Then, when the bald look started becoming a thing, he told me he was going to go that route. I told him that in no way would he shave his hair. If he was going to do bald, the only way he could was one hair at a time so I could slowly get used to the look on him. The toilet man, & you two whispering about it? That was just too funny!!!
Poison ivy is a constant battle. It spreads underground and also by birds dropping the berries everywhere. Your outdoor dogs or cats get the oil on their fur and bring it in the house. Fun stuff!
Flies, bugs, probably midges, poison ivy, snakes and bears! Anything else? I'm a Londoner and am not quite tuned into the location but I love your videos. You have beautiful children and a great space where once there was rubbish.
Finally, you'll have a little help. So awesome! Makes me happy that you reached out. For Mosquitoes, Chiggers, Fruit Flies, Horse and Deer Flies, and other Flying Pests, make a mixture of Water and Pure Vanilla extract and add a little Cinnamon. Pour it into a spray bottle and spray away. Non-Toxic, excellent for Children, Adults, Children, and Pets.
Hello, another wonderful video and happy to see grandma and grandpa there helping out and playing with those beautiful children, The baby is so beautiful. God Bless All. And as always, stay safe on this wonderful project.
Hey, bug trick - put some hanging solar lights a little anyway from your camp, and many of the bugs will hang there. Also pennies in a in a plastic bag does work. xoxo
Neighbor moving out put a bunch of stuff by the curb. One item I rescued was the bottom section of a fiberglass shower stall. I'm hoping I can make an outdoor shower and use that as the base.
Thank you for helping, and hanging out, Mom and Dad. It was nice almost meeting you 2. The shower area looks like it'll be nice. For wet areas, like the shower floor, you Should seal all the wood before even screwing it in so it lasts allot longer. Like decks, the ends really soak up water after a while.
Thanks to Spencer's Mom and step-dad for agreeing to be on camera for a bit. They seem like great people and it looked like Beau had a great time with grandma!
My parents had acreage in the Laurel Highlands and it had a three sided, what can be assumed natural, formation we used as a fire pit. I would recommend having a designated and somewhat permanent open fire pit when you clear brush. It's indispensable.
The rock wall is probably from the 1700's to early 1800's early settlers. when you are out exploring look for an old cabin site. would look like much other than a distinguishing square hole. Then get a metal detector and see what kind of treasures you can find.
Dig pit. Burn wood and bury ashes. Like it never happened. Love it! ❤
That is exactly what we do.
Great idea!!
That's what I was going to suggest, ash is great for the ground
And run landscape roller magnet over area it if you're afraid of leaving nails behind.
They really need to see this thread 😅

It is a lot of work, but you all have made a big difference. I'm sure it is rewarding.
We bought 10 acres in NC and have a condemned trailer, porch and lots of plastic barrels and trash to get rid of. God Bless😇
You say: “Like it never happened.” I say “Back to nature.” 🌿🌱🍃🍂😉
Had the same issue at my dump almost $300 first load. Been cleaning 30 acres little by little for years. Dig burn pit, keep pile dirt handy, burn everything and bury the remains. Rotten wood will burn or dissolve eventually. If your really worried about nails buy a rolling magnet. Btw that backhoe looks sooo cute on that big tractor.
Hello from Australia. I've never posted before but just wanted to let you know that I have watched you guys for years and love when you drop a new episode. I've really enjoyed watching your family expand and looking forward to seeing what you get up to next.
use diesel instead of gas, it burns hotter and way less flareup
Looks great!! How special for grandparents to be there with you. God bless ❤️🙏😊
smart move burning and burying the wood
It can attract the wrong kind of bugs like termites.
Hello Spencer’s mom and stepdad! How lovely to have help and spend time together in such a beautiful place ❤️
Your children loved having their grandparents there to play with, and it was good to see your Dad having a go of the excavator.
Love the videos. Keep up the great work.
I'm sure they will have no shortage of rotten wood there.
You kids really do have a fine place there!...just shows what great taste you both have!Ty guys for this...
I love the rock wall! That's turning out beautiful 😍
Always a treat to watch a new post
Love the he said she said jokes! Thanks for the laughter! Glad to see Spencer's parents and that you guys got a bit of help!
Yup the pit would've been my first pick. Quick and easy
I wondered about burning the wood, digging a big pit was the safest way to do it.
Stay safe all of you, love from Mike.❤
It would make for interesting content if you bought a metal detector and went through various areas of your property checking for metals, for example along the rock wall, or other high traffic areas.
Thank you to Spencer's mom for bringing him into the world. Have a good week!
You guys have done a great job of improving the land. It looks great.
Yay we love our family time with you guys ❤
with the pace of our world today and the attachment to tech, your channel is a delightful change of pace. i look forward to all the new videos! exciting to see how far you’ve come. you guys are amazing!
Beautiful land and LOVE watching grandma with the oldest child!!! Just lovely!!!
My daughter and I are both extremely allergic to poison ivy. Seriously end up in the hospital because our bronchial swell up as well. We 100% stay away from it .. its no joke
Kenzie has a great sense of humor!
I love how you love Zach other! It comes through in every moment you interact! It’s the most beautiful to watch ❤hold on tight it’s so rare I think these days! I have enjoyed watching you since the beginning and pre children and living in barn hahah your both amazing !🎉😊
Its SO beautiful there! I have so much awe and respect for You for making your place a paradise in the mountains while raising your 3 beautiful children! You two are amazing!
Fun stuff!
Well, that was beauty! Love the big poof of the spark of fire in the pit. Great idea! 😊❤🇨🇦
Hello Family 🤗 nice Spencer's parents came for visit & help out😉 beautiful spot for the Cabin 🌳 Have a safe week 🙏🇺🇲❤️
Looking good! I do love to hear those sweet baby sniffles while she’s sleeping🥰.
Hey, bug trick - put some hanging solar lights a little anyway from your camp, and many of the bugs will hang there. Also pennies in a in a plastic bag does work. xoxo
The cabin place in the mountains is looking so beautiful 💕
Nice to see your family joining in. Beautiful family.
Love the stone wall/fence!!!!
Remember it is gas vapor that is flammable not the liquid. The vapor will pool in stuff like that then boom.💥
Neighbor moving out put a bunch of stuff by the curb. One item I rescued was the bottom section of a fiberglass shower stall. I'm hoping I can make an outdoor shower and use that as the base.
Kenzie is always so funny! I can actually see Spencer with a bun lol😂😂😂😂
I love that rock wall
The rock wall is probably from the 1700's to early 1800's early settlers. when you are out exploring look for an old cabin site. would look like much other than a distinguishing square hole. Then get a metal detector and see what kind of treasures you can find.
Great to have some help! ❤ Great job 👍🏻
Get a magnetic sweeper at Harbor Freight! Roll it around, pick up all the metal!
Dig a hole, throw the wood in, burn it, add more wood, etc. That way you do not need to dig that large of a hole.
Your both in pretty good shape you just had a baby! I am from the farm so I know hard work doesn’t hurt anybody you two are awesome ❤
The children are adorable, everything looks great, have a wonderful Labor Day😊🌼🌻🌺♥️🇺🇲
OMG! Drooling over that big beautiful wall!
Get a couple of magnets to look for nails.
