- Pulling away from the side of the road is one of the first skills that we need to develop when learning to drive, and also something we will need to do every time we drive a car. It is extremely important to pull away from the side of the road safely, so this video will show you how to do this without putting yourself in danger. We’ll also look at some of the most common mistakes, and how to avoid them.

An easier way to do the 6 point check is to check the blind spot on the pavement side. If your parked on the left, start off with the left blind spot, and if you’ve parked on the right, start off with the right blind spot, you can start off with the opposite side but it’s slightly harder
I pass my driving test today. Thank you for help
That’s brilliant - well done! 🚗😎
İm next the one to pass I’m now getting driving lessons I’m watching video they give lots information about driving thank you so much advance driving

splendid .aint difficult
Lovely videos ... any COCKPIT drill on the basics list ?
No, we haven't done the Cockpit Drill as we seem to have covered everything separately. We are writing a video about ‘Your First Driving Lesson’ so that might cover it 👍🏼
How would you pull away quickly at a roundabout? Whenever I set the gas and find the bite and hold it there the car moves slowly until speed is built up to lift the clutch. Do i just set more gas at the start to allow the clutch to be lifted a bit quicker?
We use a little more gas, a little more clutch bite, and then lift clutch once the car is above walking pace as we feed more power in. We show it in this video; Clutch control at low speed: ruclips.net/video/8O3ZSqmJ9Yc/видео.html 👍🏼
I'm learning and ok pulling away its just out it in the Wright gear lol
Is it different with diesel cars ? The little gas before getting the clutch bite bit
This car is a diesel - so yes, gas before clutch normally works best in all cars.
I am from India. I was taught to depress the clutch and brake fully first, select first gear, release the handbrake and then release the clutch till the biting point and then release the brake. I see that you depress the clutch and apply the accelerator, and release the clutch till the biting point, and THEN release the handbrake. Which method is better? Which should i use? I'm confused. Thanks in advance.
We prefer to use the handbrake and the ‘gas then clutch’ method as it gives more engine power to pull away confidently - but if you prefer your technique then that’s fine. As long as the car is safe and under control then either is Ok.
I noticed u mentioned that we must not signal when pulling away if there is traffic behind us as it may cause danger. What happens if there is too much traffic and we are waiting too long. I sometimes signal so someone can be kind enough to leave me way as they know I want to pull out and it works.
+Siama Begum We must wait until there is a safe gap before we pull away. Causing other traffic to stop with our signal could fail a driving test, so it’s better to be patient.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool Recently had a test and Examiner said put the indicator on after the 6 point check even if the cars are coming otherwise you will be waiting here all day.
Your views Please
@@iDrive-365 If the traffic is heavy and slow, and the examiner suggests using the indicator to create a gap then we would take his advice and indicate. In all honesty it's a bit of a grey area, but unless it is very busy we prefer to not indicate and wait patiently.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I agree with you on that and asked the examiner today. She explained that instead of waiting put the signal out with a follow up of POM routine.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I guess that it is not a good idea with fast traffic, because you could cause panic?
Thank u Advance.
Pulling away seems simple but I failed my 2nd driving test because of it. The scenario is like this. I pull up on the left and do drive on when you are ready. I check the mirrors and blind spot. I saw a car behind in my center mirror however I misjudge he is stopping for me so I check the right mirror and blind spot to go. However just as I moved the driver behind overtakes me so I got a major fault !! Arrrrh
Oh no! I bet you won't make that mistake again... Keep practicing, and better luck next time 👍🏼
Won't this burn the clutch by slipping the clutch?
No, as long as the engine revs are fairly low and the clutch is only held at the biting point for a few seconds the clutch won’t be harmed. If you do burn the clutch (with excessive engine speed or holding the bite for a long time) you’ll smell it!
Anyone else confused if its clutch down, gas then biting point and lift clutch? Im alwaye told clutch, bp, gas
We think ‘clutch then gas’ is a poor way to teach someone to drive - this video explains why: ruclips.net/video/3AS1ZtyfjC4/видео.html
Thx
Great videos. But on this video we need to get the bite then observations. Otherwise you have a gap. And another right shoulder just before the release of the handbrake.
Thanks. We don’t recommend finding the clutch bite before the observations, as the clutch will overheat if held at the biting point for too long. Once a driver has good clutch control they can do everything in the order we suggest, but if you prefer a different way that’s fine 👍🏼
How about the right shoulder again.
Just a last check in the drivers door mirror should do. However if we can’t move away and have to wait more than 5 seconds, then we’d do another blind spot check just to make sure it’s still safe.
rear view mirror is used to view that backside of the car. no need to turn back
+Alexander Jacob The mirrors only view directly behind the car, and leave large 'blind spots' either side of the car - which can only be checked by looking around over your shoulders. In the U.K. this must be done whenever pulling away in order to pass the driving test.
Not much help. Not everybody drives Manuel. You should do videos one for automatic cars. Also how about videos that teach how to steer.
In the U.K. over 90% of learners use a manual car, so we usually film with this car. However, all the videos are still useful if you just ignore the gear changing. For steering help watch our other video ‘How to steer a car’ 👍🏼
Advance Driving School . . . Well in USA. More people drive automatic cars. I know how to steer but some maneveurs are complicated. I know hand over hand which I am most comfortable with. I need a advice on pulling out between parked cars, pulling out of parallel parking. I just need to know how to steer while pulling out of parallel parking.
Advance Driving School . . . can you do a video on “how to pull out of parallel parking”. Like between parked cars one in front of you and behind you. I am struggling with handling the steering wheel while pulling out”. The videos aren’t much help with that.
We had never thought about filming getting out of a tight parallel park! Just to give you some quick help before we can make a video: Reverse as much as you can, then ‘dry steer’ full lock away from the kerb, before edging carefully out. 👍🏼
Advance Driving School . . . But what about a parallel park that is not tight or has sufficient space between you and other parked vehicles. I am talking about one with parked vehicles both in front and back of you. How would I pull out in this case?.
