  • Frédéric Chopin wrote his Trois nouvelles études ("three new studies") for piano in 1839, as a contribution to "Méthode des méthodes de piano", a piano instruction book by Ignaz Moscheles and François-Joseph Fétis. They are often erroneously described as posthumous. In general, these études display little of the technical brilliance of most of the composers Op 10 and 25, though they do retain Chopin's original formula for harmonic and structural balance.
Frederic Chopin three new etudes No. 1 in F minor played by Anastasia Huppmann in Vienna.

I like the tempo in this Etude. It is not overly hurried and sounds very beautiful to me. Chopin composed so many beautiful works in his short lifetime.

Indeed, one of the best versions and interpretations of this Etude. The slow pace exposes the 6 to 8 rhythm and sounds teasing, longing and tragic. Well done Mrs. Huppmann.

this is the best performance of this piece i have ever heard -- just the right tempo & emotion expressed. i'm currently working on it and strive to have it sound as beautiful and as both mellow & intense as the way this outstanding pianist plays it. and btw the 44 people who didn't like it need to have their ears -- and their brains -- examined!!

The poetic melody overlapped with the image of the old clock, and my heart was healed. One word wanderful. Thank you.🎉

This is clearly one of the best performances of this piece I have ever heard. It is a committed performance in which the intellectual grip is consummate. So many performances sound glib and trivial but this has a deep, passive yet all abiding passion. Arrau made a recording of this, I think in the 1950's, which I also admire.

    Music's Language
This playing is the best ever of anything I have heard in my life. It even goes way beyond what the original composer had had in mind.
Dissimilar rhythms of left (4/4) and right (3/4) hands make this work a unique distinction. It is the use of pedal, soft touch of the left hand on arpeggios and base notes, clear and bright notes under right hand, and thoughtful ending accords, which bestows life and meaning.
Something no like other; played with elegance and grace; something capable of expression and beauty of art.
I do not think there could be created any more expressive interpretation of this piece. Every time I listen to it, get more and more surprised of how deep this performance goes, leaving me in amaze. Being only three minutes, there has been times that I have listened only to this single piece for hours, yet not satisfied enough. And now I guess I know why it had to be performed and recorded in solitude. It can never be the same in the presence of audience.
I can tell it pictures a gentle dance under rain, in cloudy morning, before the sky clearing, just upon a shiniest sunrise, in a prettiest spring.

The first time I heard this piece played was in the movie Impromptu. It was played twice, in two different scenes, and they were my favorite scenes in the movie. The Trois nouvelles études are incredibly evocative of a longing so achingly deep that it echoes through eternity. This is on my personal playlist, and I listen to it almost daily. Thank you.

This is such an enigmatic, mellifluous piece by Chopin. That glorious soprano line weaves through that constantly unstable rhythm in the most brooding of ways. The line wanders and wanders and it’s up to the pianist to find and bring out the tune and make it interesting. This is one of the most poignant, emotionally sensitive performances of this particular Etude I’ve ever heard. Most pianists fly through it because they don’t know what to do with the melody. It’s a lot like op 25 2, also in f minor.
