I got endeavor with your suggestion. I haven't been able to ride it yet but waiting for the next storm in tahoe but I know it will be awesome. Can't wait.
Bought the 2023 Excuvator. went out backcountry in Turnagain, Alaska. it absolutely killed it. effortless board. we'll see how it performs at the resort.
Wow. Top 5 Carvey Cruiser, Allmtn Freeride, Beefier, and now Pow.
Rome Ravine Select seems like a beast this year. Definitely looking to pick one up!
Not ready to give up my K2 Overboard just yet. Thanks for the reviews Avran.
Who said anything about getting rid of boards lol.
Sad to see the surfer falling down the list. I hope you get a chance to try the limited vs the regular. It's a hair bit stiffer and give a more all mountain feel. Great all day board but epic in the deeps and trees.
Thanks for another great vid.
The Orca mention had me dying lol. Absolutely love my Orca, but it definitely does not float like I thought it would.
I own an Orca. Its a good board. I own an Archetype. Its the powder board I've been looking for my whole life.
what lengths are you riding in each board ? Ive got the 153 orca and a 162 archetype but i find in crappy conditions i will ride the Orca way more , to me its better in messed up in resort conditions , big steep pow i go for the archetype
Just bought the Capita Navigator! Stoked!
sweet board love it
Nice brovember rain. Real nice bro 😎
Nice section 👍
Be good to see a full review of the new excavator. Considering moving to one of these from my yes typo
So stoked I picked up the K2 excavator last season based on your review and equally stoked to ride it again this season. Thinking about possibly picking up a swallowtail (K2 special effects but considering other options). Are you doing top5 swallows list again?
Any plans on doing a top 5 women's powder boards? Gfs going to need one this season.
Hey Avran! I am looking for a board that does well in steep, heavy PNW pow, manages well in the left over crud after a pow day and possible nimble in trees. Debating between 2023 Rome Ravine Select & K2 Excavator @150lbs & Sz 7.5 feet. What would another board that you would recommend to make this a 2 board quicker for more relaxed days.
Have you heard anything about the Jones Ultra Mind Expander? Had a few recommendations on it and just wanted to see what you thought!
I just picked up a Yes the Y 20/21. How does that compare to the Yes you included in the 5?
There's no dedicated review for Ravine Select 2023 yet but it can probably be made just from the cuts of its mentions from all the top 5s. 😂 Bought one and I think it will be a great stiff board addition to replace my old K2 Raygun.
Monday.
Have you tried niseko pleasure ? Any reviews coming up? Prefer the simple pleasure ?
Thanks for the videos man! I’m 5’9”, size 9 boot and 150lbs. Looking to get the Navigator for Japan. What size do you recommend for the pow. My daily driver is the mega merc in 157.
57 or bigger.
Bought a 23 excavator I will ride it everywhere. I love it.
Hey Angry! Love all the reviews. I’m going to be spending a month or so in Japan next season and want to pick up the perfect japow board, ideally would have really good performance on low angle pow and can still aggressively carve on groomers. My riding style leans more towards harvesting as much speed as possible and thrashing instead of a laid back surfy ride. Any of these boards you would say are the best fit for that? Other boards I thought might fit the bill are the ume, peace seeker, super pig, or maybe a Korua dart?
😂
Yes PYL uninc, Rome Ravine Select, Capita Kazu or any other suggestions
looking for a stiff aggressive pow focused freeride to compliment a mega merc and old mind expander.
Kazu is really the only one that makes sense as the PYL and Ravine Select are kind of a lateral move to what you have.
Ravine Select looking like the #1 all around resort crusher for us old dudes that stay away from park.
When they on sale it’s a lot of board for the money.
its fun in the park too imo
I picked up a previous year model for cheap. Can't wait to get it out and shred.
I'd smash the park with one and not sweat it.
I saw you really like the Jones Ultra Mind Expander for the carving, but what do you think about it in a powder day ?
I already have the YES Typo I bought last year after seeing your video about it, I use it for all day moutain and some park, but I am looking for a new board to use for Carving and Powder day, would you rather recommand the JonesIltra Mind Expander or the Capita Navigator ?
It's a stiffer pow board that requires a lot of focus when driving it through a turn. If you want more pow it's Navigator all day, you want to carve it's UME.
Hey Angry, intermediate/advanced rider in PNW. 6’2” 185lbs with US10.5 boots.
Currently on 156 Sashimi XV. Still getting used to deep carves but loving the board.
Been eyeing the new Excavator and 158 just popped up 👀 would it be redundant to keep both?
Mainly riding Whistler and Baker for trees and deep pow bowl days 🤘🏻
Super redundant.
Looking to grab the k2 excavator for some powder, trees, and groomers! What size would you recommend? I’m 5’4” 128 lbs
48 or whatever it is near that size.
Hey Avran how is the PYL Uninc as a general freeride board for shittier conditions? Chop, chunder, and harder, icier snow? Would you only bring it out for pow days? Thanks!
That's exactly what it's for. It's probably the most well balanced deck on this list for all conditions. If I was going to have something as a freeride/pow deck and it was from this list it would only be that board.
Navigator looks rad af. Have Shadow Ban. Do I need this? I don’t go to
Whole Foods or Shop at REI. Been waiting for this list. Thanks
Having a dedicated powder board for Hood isn't a bad idea.
Surprised there isn't any Korua decks on this list.
I’m torn on PYL sizing. 6’ 210 12 boots, you think 159 or 161? Plan on it for steeps and pow. Been leaning toward 61.
61.
Nice video, where would you say the Capita Kazu Pro stacks up to these? Especially against the Navigator. Thanks!
Kazu sits in a different category.
I’ll let you know, just got the 23 kazu. Took it in about 3-4 feet of crap and bullshit and it did ok. My resorts closing so I’m gona go ride backcountry next week. Figure she’ll do fine, just gona slam the bindings back. Overall though it’s a fucking awesome board. I love it.
In case you were still wondering one year later lmao
Hey angry snowboarder, I'm going to your neck of the woods the second week of April. What do you think I should ride from my quiver. I ride East Coast Advanced to intermediate free ride, moguls groomers ice ice whatever. Normally i ride a 151 or 155 camber / camrocker. But I'm not sure if these are going to be good at a-basin and surrounding areas. So I also have two volume shifted boards. A 142 Burton's stick shift, and it 149 ish war pig. Sometimes the war pig is a bit much for me in the heavy chop of the east. What do you think I should bring?
Whatever you feel comfortable riding. Conditions could be full pow, could be mashed potato slush, and everything in between.
What should one expect for the Peace Seeker in Pow?
A nice leg workout.
What Size would you reccomend me for the Capita Navigator? Im 6'4" and weigh 175lbs
58 or whatever it is around there. I'm too lazy to look up exact size.
Yo Avran. Whatcha think about PYL Uninc vs Navigator for more pow oriented freestyle including some switch carving, takeoffs and landings? Rocking a Standard Uninc and it’s good until it gets too deep then my back leg burns and I didn’t skip leg day. Like mid road flex and I’m 6’ 200lbs size 11. Bachelor. Lotsa trees. Thinking 161 but maybe 164 on the Navigator. Thanks for whatever advice you can give.
PYL UnInc is the better choice for some freestyle pow riding. Navigator for straight pow.
Thanks Avran
what would you reccomend for steamboat flat pow?
my slush slasher ate through most of it but those flat sections get really annoying. is there any board that would help more?
Ravine Select, that 3D shaping in the tips will help funnel the pow out when you're cutting back to Pony or trying to make it to Sunnyside.
i like watching your reviews, all fact. by the way I'm planning to purchase K2 excavator 2023 seems like a very good board for hokkaido Japow, my question is do you think an advance beginner( can make an S turn smoothly) can handle this board?. I'm looking forward for your suggestion. the snow in Hokkaido is pretty deep even in groomed area, Thank you!
No.
if you can’t carve why do you need a $600 pow board lol
Bataleon Surfer for the win. Gotta try the archetype.
Last year I bought the hovercraft over the Capita navigator and I still wonder what that board would be like in comparison.
Little softer in the nose, more tail for driving a turn, not as damp as the Hovercraft, similar float, Hovercraft has slightly better edge hold.
As an Archetype owner too just curious what’s any nuance difference in how the Bataleon Surfer rides different compared to the Archetype?
Surfer has a better hull shape in the nose so it funnels snow better, the swallowtail is wider so the dispersion is different as well as how it snaps as it's softer when flat basing, I also find the Surfer stiffer underfoot.
I live out East but am looking for a powder board for my 3-4 trips west each season. Looking for something with good float that I can also ride resort with after the pow is tracked or in order to get to the goods. 6'1, 210lbs, 9.5 boots. The K2 Excavator made my list - I think the 158 size wise would work? Any other boards I should be looking at for average size feet and above average girth?
You probably want the 54 honestly. Plenty of other great pow boards out there though.
How's the dancehaul in steep pow/trees‽ waiting for your review on it coming shortly.
Terrible
Trees it's super solid, if it's fresh pow in the steeps it's manageable, if it's choppy and crap, you'll want something stiffer.
Hey man I’ve got a sizing question. Bought the 158 excavator on sale. I’m 6’1”, 170 lbs, and size 10 boot. Did I fuck up? Seems like 154 might’ve been the better move, I’m currently on a 160 Kazu and 161 splitty both of which feel great. Thanks in advance!
That’s a big board. I wouldn’t have put you on it.
Thanks man I had a hunch. As silly as it may sound I’m returning and swapping for the 159w passport. After hearing Dirksen’s bomb hole I’m sold on riding a board in the 265mm waist range
Bit the bullet and bought the surfer for the biblical season Mammoth has been having. Roofs may be collapsing and my grocery supply is dwindling but holy shit has this board helped me to forget all of that
Paddle out to the Vons baby!
Just picked up a new softer Optimistic hoping it rides pow in a way that rivals the ones on your list. What do you think?
Wouldn't be my first choice.
@@AngrySnowboarder it’s gonna be my one board quiver for PNW carving and tree powder. Does that make it a better choice?
It'll get the job done.
5’8” 200lbs size 9 - would 158 excavator for all round powder board mixed conditions (trees, steep, open, low angle) work or 154 better?
54
Thank you sir!
Hows the peace seeker in pow and trees?
Doable. Wouldn't be my first choice for riding trees.
As purely a board for powder, would you recommend the Bataleon party wave+ or the Bataleon Surfer?
Surfer all day. Look at it. Bask in its glory. Realize it’s true power.
@@AngrySnowboarder Haha, thanks man. I appreciate the reply.
F^ck that I did take the prom Queen home and bang here. 😉 Thank you for the top Five. Keep on keepin On! Cheers.
Aren't you a little old to be going to prom and banging teenagers?
Why the sushimi over the sushi? I would think the sushi with its fish tale and volume shift would be better in pow?
Go try to ride a steep line with 0 tail and tell me how you do.
Hey Angry, I'm buying my first powder board and looking into buying this one. I want a board that does well in powder and that I can also bomb on the groomers with. Is this a board you'd recommend for me? Also, what size would you recommend? I am size 9.5 and weigh 155lbs.
There's literally 5 boards on the list and 3 in the reserve so might want to be more specific.
@@AngrySnowboarder Oh my bad I forgot to add it in there. I was referring to the k2 excavator lol
Buy it. 150.
@@AngrySnowboarder would a 154 be too big?
Lets put it this way I'd ride the 54 and I'm 50lbs heavier than you.
How far down the list is the Burton Deep Daze?
Not in the top 8 that's for sure.
Hmm which of these for deep dumps on Hood and Baker?? Really want a deck that can surf and bounce around in nw pow, yet can load up an ollie with ease and charge hard back down to the parking lot. 180 size 11 boot. Thanks brothaaaaaa
The standout on this list is the DCP UnInc. But the Excavator and Ravine Select are solid as well.
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks G
This channel is archetype biased 🤣🤣🤣 and I bought one because of this channel lol
When the review about the Alpha APX by Nidecker?
2023
didn't know you needed a snowboard to rail white lines
You clearly aren't cutting the ones we are.
What’s changed since that first orca review a few years back? The HP construction killed it for you?
That's like saying nothing changes ever.
... what constitutes a "powder gun"?
65 and up size, shape, camber profile, if it gives good otphj's on the chairlift.
@@AngrySnowboarder Burton wishbone 168? Old school
Surprised there isn’t any jones board
There were about 28 boards that I was going back and forth on when making this list. Believe me they are right outside it.
@@AngrySnowboarder so what’s the best jones powder board in your opinion?
You should do a top 5 pow boards for PNW pow.
Then I should probably do a Top 5 boards for Mid Atlantic ice riding. Then one for people who don't know how to ride switch but should ride switch more. Then maybe a Top 5 for people that have club foot and a lisp.
@@AngrySnowboarder you just read my mind
@@jameslee7961 No it's too smooth to get a good reading.
Solomon Sick Stick 157 anyone?!... Anyone??
The sad thing about the orca is that there are so many libs that ride so much better for the average 10 day a year rider.
FACTS!

Damnnnn💀🥹💀well fuck I’m not doing that again 🤘
You learned your lesson so hard you posted it twice.
It's always weird seeing some one on an orca when there is literally no pow and nothing but groomed runs
wat do you do if it's ur only board? won't ride?
@@vanakunn go search for pow and ride it in the terrain it's meant for obviously
Orca runs deep on any terrain….
@@plead_da_fif-420 u just said first that there's no pow xD Anyway, i dont have orca, neither want one, though it's versatile enough to be ridden in other terrains as well
