Never seen someone enjoy Sail to the Moon *that much*. That was fun. And yes, well seen, the Backdrifts beat resembles the 15 step one, and in fact, many see in this album the stepping stone from Kid A to the In Rainbows sound. It's not my favorite RH album, but it's got great vibes going on with that balance between rock and less guitar-driven sounds. It would be higher in their discography if it were, like, just 10 songs. Feels a bit bloated. Anyway, I enjoy your reactions, man. Keep it up. I might comment more later when I'm done watching :D
Edit: okay I'm done watching. The only thing that surprised me is that you weren't more into There There, for many it's the best one of this album. I think it might still grow on you. And don't worry, everyone hates The Gloaming, and personally WSYB too.
Ps: May I recommend watching the Turning The Tables reactions for the RH albums you've already heard? I think you might enjoy them.

    • @kurrutako89
      @kurrutako89 2 года назад +1

Discuss how this album would be seen by RH fans if it were something along these lines:
      Side one
      1- 2+2=5
      2- Sit down. Stand up.
      3- Go to sleep
      4- Backdrifts
      5- Where I end & you begin
      Side two
      1- There there
      2- I will
      3- Myxamatosis
4- A wolf at the door
      5- Sail to the moon
Anyway, I stole your idea about having STTM close the album. Now, I know many people feel AWATD doesn't belong in this album but I like it. Or maybe you'd change a couple tunes. Doesn't matter. If we had something along these lines, what we have here is a much more concise and talent-concentrated work, not the hit-and-miss mess that the second half of the actual record is.

It's always interesting to watch someone's first time listening to Radiohead songs. The irony however with Radiohead, is that the majority of most fans' favourite songs are those which we come to like upon multiple listens. Radiohead's best songs being notoriously "growers" not "showers".

Like everyone is recommending In Rainbows and King of Limbs from the basement are both amazing. Without a doubt some of the best stuff Radiohead has done. But I would highly recommend I Might Be Wrong, the live record based on Kid A and Amnesiac. The electronic tracks sounds even better in a live setting with analogue instruments and really heighten the albums. And the original arrangements on that album are just the best Radiohead has done, IMO.

I agree with most of your reaction BUT I do have a couple of different views. Upfront, I acknowledge that I may be biased in the following feedback regarding our differences bc I feel that this is the best Radiohead album to date…which, admittedly, is not a common belief. My counter-opinions are specifically around your takes on ‘I Will’ and ‘We Suck Young Blood’. First, I guarantee that in future listens you will grow to appreciate the intricacy of the simple yet clean and reverbed electric guitars that interacted so perfectly with the beautiful piano in a way that had yet to be delivered on a Radiohead track. Second, this unbelievable musicianship was accompanied by some amazing and haunting vocal harmonies that added insane melodic layers to the tracks. ‘I Will’, in particular, displays some of the most beautiful vocal harmonies ever recorded. Unfortunately, a lot of people overlook the artistry and genius of these shorter, ‘b-side’ type tracks bc they are waiting for/looking for those traditional Radiohead heavy hitters that end up anchoring each of their full length releases. I admit that it took a few years for these gems to shine through for me but Sail to the Moon, We Suck Young Blood and I Will are three of my favorite tracks of all time bc of their simple approach, strange sound palettes and strong melodic qualities.

Yes - this is probably the longest album to ruminate over - years for some songs for me - "I Will" meant nothing but a 'skip' to me for so long - then the harmonies just captivated me then then true music beneath the music (we are talking Thom and Johnny here - they aren't your typical songwriting duo) unfurled...interesting as "There,There" is my favorite entire RH song while we have been more or less on point with most others but I will say I overlooked it as anything special when I first listened through this album in a down period when I wasn't so into the band - then when I saw 'In Rainbows from the Basement' (an absolute must watch to know this band - it is inspirational and songs of THIS album are on there tooo and come off way cooler - "Where I End and You Begin" was almost a skip for me at one point then reviewing the basement version - man it is a top 10 easy for me now - utterly cold killer stuff)and sparked my re and now eternal over-the-top admitted fandom, that same night of revelation I stumbled on an acoustic Thom and Johnny version of "There, There" live and it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard. So just a suggestion if the interest sparks to check that out for a stripped back version - it has such an insane detuned chord progression - it's nothing anyone else could have written and sounds so powerful in that setting. But when I made my comment about the less cohesive nature of this album maybe now it resonates as in the songs are up and down in style and initial punch - lyrically it is very political and isolationist, don't trust the Govt, and dreamily hopeful at times (Sail to the Moon written for his son) - not sure how l'd you are to remember post 9-11 Bush era politics but, um, yeah - sad to say I' give anything to trade back that party for the current version of it. Never would have guessed. But respect to all and their views, music is meant to bring us together so strike that. sort of. Fun seeing these vis - thanks man and beautiful rendition of True love Waits - is song I intend to have my wedding dance to though the old school Thom on Acoustic version - little less downer than this but they are equal as songs to me. Thanks for sharing that - i play guitar, super jealous would love to be able to play the piano.

@@levilee207 Much love for the encouragement- we need that in these strange times. Seriously. Funny and prescient that you say that; I actually own a ridiculously incredible synth/keyboard, the Novation UltraNova, that has the power to do like anything beyond comprehension - it is an amazing piece of musical equipment. I have enough history noodling on pianos growing up to use the synth with my buddies - single note melodies and such -when we jam but to unleash its full capacity would be so amazing. Also, for the sake of song writing basic skills on the keys would add so many new journeys my Taylor Mini may not be finding.
