      David Fuhr
      That may be technically true but you say it like accuracy and power are mutually exclusive. While marksmanship tends to go down with absurd cartridges, you don't have to use a wimpy gun to be accurate. I don't think anybody needs a .500 Magnum in their bedside drawer, but militaries stopped using .32 ACP for a good reason.

    • @arnjhon
      @arnjhon 8 лет назад +2

      yep, and you see how the bullets deflects from the block as well so it wouldn't really help as they would go into the arms, neck or legs.. But it would make a nice cover to hide behind.

    💡 💡 💡 Just an idea of something you HAVE to get for when you film penetration videos... a Vernier caliper. (Similar to a ruler but this measures width and depth) It doesn’t hardly weigh anything and the best thing about it is on one end is a projecting arm caliper. This would be the side you would use to measure the depths of the different holes. The tool is extremely accurate and they also make ones that have a digital reading screen. And don’t worry, the projecting arm has a small enough rod that would even fit down a .22 hole! It’s also simple and very fast to get a measurement and NO else filming bullet penetration videos is using one. For us viewers it would add one more technical element to the videos to compare the different depths or widths of each round with the depth reading and a visual as you pull the rod out of a hole. You said yourself, some holes you are unable to see the depth and some holes the camera doesn’t quite depict the awesomeness of some of the holes. You should look into it online. Thanks for reading

    Matt in 10 Years: Is everything on the "Periodic Table" Bulletproof?

  • @schmuffle1807
    @schmuffle1807 6 лет назад

    The damage that a bullet causes is due to concentrated force onto a small surface area. Even if bullets are faster, if they are lighter then they will do less damage than a heavier bullet going at the same speed. ”f = ma” is the equation used to find force. So, if we plug in the correct values, “m” being mass and “a” being acceleration, we get the force.
    For example, if the mass of the bullet is 2 and the acceleration is 4, then the total force is 8.
    However if we get a heavier bullet thats mass is 4 and is going at the same speed as the lighter bullet the total force will be 16.
    Higher force, higher damage. Pls correct me if I’m wrong with any of these. Hope this helps and thanks!

    So when is the military gonna make aluminum body armor?

    • @simonbarabash2151

      Aluminum is used for some light armored vehicles, and APCs.

      +Simon Barabash but isn't titanium a better solution?

    • @simonbarabash2151
      @simonbarabash2151 8 лет назад +6

      William Garcia A more expensive solution. Aluminium is fine for a vehicle that just needs to ferry grunts and survive small arms and shrapnel.
      Titanium wouldn't be much of an improvement in practice. While it could still survive small arms fire and shrapnel any dedicated anti armor weapon is going to blast a hole in it almost as easily as aluminium.

    • @williamgarcia356
      @williamgarcia356 8 лет назад

      Simon Barabash but didn't this guy do a video showing how bullet proof is titanium and nothing penetrated it at all he went all the way up to a 50 cal explosive armor piecing round and it couldn't penetrate
      That doesn't seem like small arms fire to me

    • @simonbarabash2151
      @simonbarabash2151 8 лет назад +5

      William Garcia 50 cal is small arms, in the grand scheme of things its a fucking peashooter.
      When I talk about dedicated anti armor weapons I'm talking about at the *very smallest* autocannons with APFSDS rounds, and RPG's or helicopter mounted rockets with HEAT warheads.
      And these have nothing on ATGMs, both man portable and vehicle mounted, and the 120 or 125mm main guns on tanks.
      Oh, and the block is far thicker than the armor would be. If you want to have a hope against HEAT warheads with a light vehicle you add reactive armor blocks, slat armor or an active defense system.

    "Even though the .40 cal has more energy, the 9mm was 'booking it'."
    That means the 9mm has more kinetic energy though, doesn't it? I mean, since kinetic energy is a function of both mass and velocity.
    All nitpicking aside, I was pretty surprised by how well the aluminium held up.

    • @meagain2222
      @meagain2222 8 лет назад

      Its E=1/2Mv^2
      So velocity is king at total energy because its squared and mass is linear.
      Double velocity and energy content is 4 times.
      Double mass and energy is only double.

    • @horvathbenedek3596
      @horvathbenedek3596 8 лет назад +3

      You have to forget everything about the projectile here, since it matters very little. You see, the main problem with this test is that aluminium in this thickness has a tendency to fracture on a microscopic level, I believe it is called the dislocation theorem pr something, long story short, the tiny fractures in the material.make it more brittle, and the faster the bullet pushes the material aside, the harder the few surface layer the projectile faces becomes. So you'd get the best penetration with a heavy, relatively slow moving projetile.
      BTW if anyone thinks aluminium can't be hard, well there are aluminium alloys which are on par with certain steels in terms of hardness.
