speed is why 9 did more than 45 on this soft armor, also the 9mm was high left on the soft armor and the 45 was more centered. the 45 was given more room to dissapate enegry across the armor
Its really the combination of a larger surface area, heavier projectile and lower velocity that makes the .45 ACP less effective than 9mm in every way against an armored target. Against an unarmored target it performs better because its less likely to overpenetrate and deliver all of its kinetic energy to the target whereas 9mm tends to pass straight through a target if it doesn't hit bone.
One also has to think about the amount of blunt force trauma highly focused on these areas transmitting force to the organs behind it. The .44 mag hit at the upper sternum and fractured it… behind that lives a portion of the thoracic aorta. There’s a chance that amount of focused energy could injure the vessel even without the projectile, which can be fatal (not immediately, but possibly without proper medical attention). Also, behind the right lower rib cage lives the liver (.357 mag). That transmitted force could injure the liver, causing a significant liver laceration and bleeding that could potentially kill if not treated. Broken ribs can also cause pneumothorax and collapse the lung, which can kill. The last shot in the back with the slug could injure the spine and the spinal cord. Not to say that this is not impressive. It’s better than wearing a hoodie without the soft armor, and I would imagine would increase survivability.

One thing to note is the armor has technically already been used, and is well past its rated damage threshold by the time you shot it with .44. Try it again on a clean hoodie, center mass instead of up at the edge of the armor, would be a way better, more fair 3A test. Im not expecting it to still be 3A all AFTER getting hit with .22, 9mm, .357 and .45acp, because thats a grossly unrealistic expectation, unless 6 people with 6 diff guns hit you 1 after the other (never gonna happen)
It literally stopped all of them that it's rated for. That's 3A. No one who knows anything about ballistics, soft armor, or firing tests would have a problem with this. If you served, you know that un-less you have hard plate you're still going to have a bad day when you get shot. But you're still alive, you don't need someone to reinflate your lung or seal it, you're not bleeding out of your back from an exit wound that no one noticed because they didn't check under your vest. I understand your complaint that when they opened up on full auto it was already compromised, but it wasn't rated to stop that in the first place. That was just having fun. If you want to take point-blank full auto at point blank range, you might want to roll in a tank not a hoodie.
shotgun slug and 45ACP really make the old saying "speed defeats armor" ring true. The 9mm doing more damage than the 45 is due to the speed is my guess
True. Though not wearing armor, the 45acp is pretty impressive. A full-inch wide cavitation from a 4 inch barrel is pretty amazing and still hits penetration depths.
The ammo type matters, not all 9 mils are as spicy as 9mm NATO, actually, when he clarified he was going to use a fmj nato round, I figured a bone could get broken. On the other side, the .45 acp round looked like bulk discount going outta business type of ammo. Now, replace that .45 for a 165gr one and things might be different, specially outta those 5". Cheers.
@@hansvonmannschaft9062 Cheers…! It’s all about energy transfer which is roughly mass and speed of mass but other factors increase the energy like rotation. Put a 165 gr pill on a table and flick it with your middle fingernail. Chances are you might flick the pill off the table but also likely to end up with a black and blue fingernail. The 165 gr pill standing still has significant energy compared to your flicking finger. Throw a 165 gr pill at your buddy with a pitchers throw and get laughed at. Throw a 40 gr pill at 1200 fps and you have a shart show. For sure 9mm NATO is way faster than us made 9mm amo for all the wrong us ammo mfg marketing campaigns. These tests have been done so many times with 3A armor that these results didn’t surprise me. The way body armor works is that it spreads the force over a wide section of the armor (kinda like a trampoline, think of laying down vs standing up). This means bigger, wider faced bullets are less likely to penetrate. Speed and pointy (FMJ, Spitzer, etc.) is what defeats armor. People think 7.62x39 and 300 BLK are more likely to penetrate armor than 5.56, but it’s been proven that the light, fast 5.56 from a 20” barrel has better armor penetration capabilities. That’s why the Russians changed to 5.45. I’d like to take a 44 magnum 305gr hard cast bear load and grind the tip of the bullet to a point and then shoot it at 3A armor. I bet it would penetrate. Or maybe a hot 357 mag HC. I’m an internet specialist, not a ballistics specialist, so you don’t have to believe me. Do the research yourself.
High velocity hangun such as 5.7 would be interesting. Maybe some of the Extreme Defenders in .357 Sig (2100fps claimed) or 10mm (1825 fps claimed) would defeat it. The high velocity of those rounds would help, but the larger diameter would work against them for defeating armor. Be interesting to see where the balance is struck between velocity, diameter and armor defeat.
To caveat on the multiple becoming deadly, i think a home/perimeter defense one would be good, as well as maybe a suburb one. I get alot of the previous information is transferable but another take is always a good thing to have. Maybe covering fields of observation/fire, setting up a temporary or permanent OP in the neighborhood etc. S2 underground does cover some of this already.
Strike face deformation is going to be a real problem right off the bat. Doesn't matter if it stops the bullet if the vest gets pushed into your chest cavity.
The backface signature on our armor is better than most vests. But, if you shoot the same general area multiple times, and then hit an inch or so away from the edge, it's gonna push in further than it's meant to.
The hoodie surprisingly held up quite well much better than I expected. Garand Thumb will always be entertaining while showing us guns and teaching safety though can we all agre!
You could test if a bunch of the thin armor stacked together is a good as the same thickness of higher level armor with plates. Thanks for all the great tests! Don't we all want a bullet proof suit like John Wick 😄

Definitely better than I thought it would be, the hood could use at least some really thin armor but I'd love to see how this would do against some 5.7 rounds. Cool video though 👍👍🇺🇲
5.7 was specifically designed to penetrate soft body armour. It would go through that hoodie without even slowing down. Same with the Tokareva's 7.62x25 round, which also has no trouble penetrating 3a panels.

I think the more accurate term for most products out there on the market that we can wear are bullet-resistant not bulletproof cuz if it was fully bulletproof we would never have to replace them ever. I truly believe that everything in the market that's bullet-resistant as people calling bulletproof can take on a certain amount of damage before they become compromised.
When Charlie gets back I would like to know how he would teach gun safety to kids, I was thinking about teaching my nephews and Charlie is the only one I trust.
This is marketed towards surgeons and forensic teams. The material makes recovery of the projectile much easier in a surgery or autopsy. It is also beneficial to the crime scene clean up team as we can see by the final demonstration where the body only turned Ma's Old Fashioned Chili after the garment was removed. Excellent performance all the way around. 😎👍🦅🇺🇸
Honestly Ive looked at these just for my kids as a better than nothing but also wouldn't be obvious if a shooter came in and teach him to turn and cover head down and if hit just lay down quiet. I know is still so unlikely but if this works enough and also can be concealed to not be obvious armor it may be worth it
The backface signature on our armor is better than most vests. But, if you shoot the same general area multiple times, and then hit an inch or so away from the edge, it's gonna push in further than it's meant to. We're in the mid 20s for backface signature on 9mm 124gr, which is better than soft armor twice as thick as ours.
@@BulletproofEveryone Just to be clear I'm not knocking your product. I think it performed well in a brutal test. Whether or not the wearer would survive boils down to the strength and health of the individual and the energy of the projectile, as well as angle of impact and distance between shooter and target. There is no question this armor provides excellent protection but a bit of luck has to be on your side as well. A 500 Magnum at two yards you're dead as disco but 9mm at twenty five yards you might go home with a bad bruise. If I was expecting to be shot at like military personnel in a hot zone I would want a plate carrier but in a situation where there might be gunfire but there is no imminent threat I would appreciate the lightness, comfort and flexibility of this product.
Sweatshirt needs to come also in a green color, various camo colors with some having Velcro patch points, a black sweatshirt with dark grey sides, and a hoodless sweatshirt. All with the "belly pocket" ..
So mike is known either as Garand thumb or flannel daddy, does that mean when he gets old he will be Garand Daddy? I hope we get to keep up with him until then this channel is fun.
doesn't constantly shooting a plate deteriorate it's effectiveness? Surely a few bullet holes in a plate makes it overall less effective as the metal has more leeway to expand due to missing mass? I've had this thought rattling around in the old bone dome for a while.
That would be a boring video because 5.7 would penetrate easily. It was specifically designed to penetrate soft armour. I've tested a Tokarev (7.62x25) which is less powerful, against a lvl 3a vest and it went right through. Same vest stopped full power 44 Mag.
I would be curious to know if they changed to a new vest with each round they shot or if the same vest took all those same shots. Based on the blood-stains it looks like they shot the same single vest a bunch of times repeatedly. The efficacy of the vest is going to go down with each round fired at it.
The hoodie is a good idea, but you really need trauma plates sown into the hoodie, the blunt trauma from some of the rounds is just too crazy to think about
So, there is a model of hoodie that has armor in the head, but, even if the soft armor stops the bullet, there is nothing stopping the soft armor from going through your skull, very similar to how the 44 Magnum shattered the sternum.
Yeah the downside of the soft armors is that it cannot really stop the energy's transfer from the found to yourself, if it can it'll stop the bullet but the energy is going to transfer into you and probably break bones and well we see
If I hit you in the head with a sledge hammer under soft armor it's the same result, it's the energy dissipation that matters. Hopefully it's a small caliber from distance and you'll survive with a skull fracture instead of losing grey matter.
@@mattgayda2840 that is my point, behind why the hoodie with the armor in the hood is a complete gimmick, because the energy transfer will kill you or leave you brain dead in most situations, unless it is maybe a subsonic 22 from a decent distance.

Cheers.
@@hansvonmannschaft9062
Cheers…! That’s why us has P, +P, ++P, P+P, PP++PP and so forth and so on. Ever wonder why certain 5.7 types are LE only…? Same reason we get 9mm Luger here in us. Not a Glock fan boy, although no complaints either, but there is a reason they are global standard.

Not many people know but the bullet proof vest was created by a pizza shop owner. He got tired of being shot at when he was getting robbed.
I would definitely be more interested in what it won't stop in a handgun. There's 100s of videos showing what has already been tested
@@sKillShot308 5.7 i bet

A thin steel backing would probably help dissipate the force over a larger area.
The backface signature on our armor is better than most vests. But, if you shoot the same general area multiple times, and then hit an inch or so away from the edge, it's gonna push in further than it's meant to.
Sure. I get that. Not trying to dog your product. I just don't think it's for me. Good luck to you.

Might stop the bullet, won't stop the blunt force trauma.
That Fort Scott ammo uses only solid copper bullets, so at .45/70 velocities it's toast.

I think part of the rating system is backface deformation to account for that.
Try this armor out with a chain mail undershirt. It would probably be awesome no matter what.
Every Taofledermaus channel viewer knew the armor would stop that 12ga slug.
Steel plates are basically bullet proof until you exceed the rating. Kentucky ballistics had work out weights out perform real products.

I know is still so unlikely but if this works enough and also can be concealed to not be obvious armor it may be worth it
@@EthanStenhouse-dp7ic If you live in an area where it gets cold I guess it could work out.
If I was expecting to be shot at like military personnel in a hot zone I would want a plate carrier but in a situation where there might be gunfire but there is no imminent threat I would appreciate the lightness, comfort and flexibility of this product.

doesn't constantly shooting a plate deteriorate it's effectiveness? Surely a few bullet holes in a plate makes it overall less effective as the metal has more leeway to expand due to missing mass? I've had this thought rattling around in the old bone dome for a while.

"The Spicy" footage brought tears to my eyes. Glorious. Absolutely glorious.
Someone should do 5.7 vs various body armor. Thats the hype around it so lets see it.
When they pulled out "the spicy" I was like YES. Love this channel
they shot sans undertale 💔💔💔
The hoodie is a good idea, but you really need trauma plates sown into the hoodie, the blunt trauma from some of the rounds is just too crazy to think about
Best advice I've ever been given.... that's some good dad advice as well "if someone has a colt monitor just don't"
@@mattgayda2840 I mean my pt band has sto0ped a car before so maybe these guys are just looking at the wrong material
@@mattgayda2840 that is my point, behind why the hoodie with the armor in the hood is a complete gimmick, because the energy transfer will kill you or leave you brain dead in most situations, unless it is maybe a subsonic 22 from a decent distance.
