我得去超市买东西 ("I have to go to the supermarket to buy things") I think that this "to buy things" can mean "in order to buy things" So, the Chinese could use 为了买东西 although this is probably too formal. More colloquially, I find that Chinese sometimes uses 来 in place of 为了. This can be very confusing for beginners, because this 来 has nothing to do with "come".

Yeah, that's true. 来 is a very useful colloquial expression that sometimes cannot be translated directly.
