As a fellow DIYer I absolutely love this concept! Good fix good concept. Except I only believe this would work if you're a single man. Because in a household of six that I have, there's no way my wife would let my sink be an inoperable for two to three days. I would be a dead man! Good job though. So to me the time of not having a disposal wouldn't be worth it.

I used a water proof silicone to seal the hole and make the new gasket. Works fine. The unit isn't under pressure, so a simple silicone seal works fine. Took about 2 hours, most of which was just waiting for it to dry out

@@Joanna-iy6xd it did. Worked for about 2 months and then I replaced the sink and counters. Decided to just replace the disposal at the same time too. So I can confirm it worked for at least 2 months

Its a shame that InSinkerator don't supply any internal spare parts. Anyway, the leak rarely come from that joint. it is normally from the seal underneath the circular plate. The UK government are passing a law making all manufacturers to supply spares for 10 years.

Nice fix! No wire clamp to the disposal hole? Potential hazard of the wire sheeting getting cut due to disposal operation vibration or persons bumping into the wire moving things in and out underneath the sink cabinet.

just swap it out....very easy. Just bought a badger 100 to change out my badger 1 (old one from 14 years ago) and it took me 30 minutes or so...you don't even need to change the top drain if that's still solid. I saved that part as a spare should I need it and that is simple too...just use plumber's putty and tighten down if needed. Otherwise, only the disposal itself if needed and all hookups should match perfectly. These things haven't changed in years Good luck

Good tip BUT for $90 just replace with identical of updated model. I just swapped out my 14 year old badger 1 with a badger 100 from HD. You can probably even get these on sale elsewhere too. Process was simply and I didn't even need to change out the drain portion since that is rock solid and not in need of replacement but even with that...very simple. Our disposal was also leaking from rust and I guess if you really don't have the cash this is good....otherwise I would recommend buying new. Why risk leaking or worse from a unit that has likely reached EOL....

You'd be crazy to reinstall a repaird garbage disposal. 75% of the job is the labor for removal/reinstall. For $100 bucks you might as well install a new one. You are only going to save a few bucks with the repaired one......and then you still have an old disposal that is going to fail for some other reason. This is a bad idea!

    • @creativepinoy2180

Your local hardware store will not install the disposer for free, but If you like the buy new one you can follow this steps too. It’s actually very easy.. for $10-15. What labor? it’s called diy.
