    I'm sure you've tried this, but just in case you haven't, if you fully close your rebound adjustment, you can often times remove the spring with no problem even while the bearing upgrade is on. the rebound knob itself unthreads from the eyelet body when opening the rebound adjustment, so closing it moves the knob close to the eyelet body and can make JUST enough room to remove the spring. I was furious when I first got my super deluxe coil equipped rocky mountain Slayer that has bearings and I though I couldn't change my coil without disasembling the bearings, but lo and behold it is possible!

      I didn’t know that, I’ll give it a try when I next change the spring. Very helpful thank you.

      @@jedmtb Let me know if it works! because to be fair, i have the rocky mountain made bearing hardware, so it may or may not work on the rockshox hardware. and that's good info to know!

  • @jawzzy3

    The most exciting shock right now imo… all the features that make a difference for a coil shock - HBO, negative spring, etc all for a relatively low price. The collar should have a grub screw so you can lock it in place though

    Nice video! I use a Bomber CR in the exact same dimension on my Scott Ransom with a CK Valt 500 lbs spring. It's almost exactly 800gr in total including eyelet bushings. Was a bit disappointed to see that the bearing upgrade requires disassembly to change the spring. I have a Rocky Mountain with a Cane Creek DB Coil IL, and I've mounted a Rocky Mountain bearing kit that is small enough that you can easily slide the spring over it.

      I've got a 2021 Altitude and looking to go with a coil too. Does it make the bike feel too linear or is it still progressive?

      @@michaelmcdermott9445 I use coil on both my 2018 Instinct and 2022 Altitude, and it works super well. The linkage on those bikes is spot on for coil :)

      @@AndreasRavnestad thank you! I've read it takes a 230 x 60 mm shock. Is this what you have on yours? I appreciate the reply 🙏

    • @AndreasRavnestad
      @AndreasRavnestad 8 месяцев назад

      @@michaelmcdermott9445 Yes, 230x60 is the correct dimension. You can also get a 230x62.5 or 230x65 and limit the travel with a plastic washer behind the bump stop. If you're buying a used shock, make sure you get one with standard eyelets. You will also need the eyelet removal tool from RM to move the eyelet hardware over from the old shock to the new one.

    that bearing adapter - do you know if that fits other shocks? the fox 8x30 bearing kit in particular creaks a lot and wondered if this is better

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  6 месяцев назад

      @@jamble7k The eyelet diameter of 12.7mm is the same on Fox and RS so in theory it should work but I’ve not got any Fox shocks on hand to see if there is any clearance issues.

      The higher end shocks have slightly more controlled dampers but unless you ran them back to back I don't think most people would be able to tell the difference.

    Do you think its possible to install the bearing hardware with a shifting spanner instead of the rockshox special tool ?

    • @jedmtb
      @jedmtb  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes but you’d have to very careful as the flat surface isn’t very big and could round off if it slips.

      There are some third party options for bearings too... RWC makes a really nice needle bearing adapter that's less bulky and doesn't require any special tool, other than a standard set of drifts to remove the stock hardware.
