It’s so nice not to see “never ending” freeways for a change. Small towns can be so interesting, esp if you don’t live there. Thanks Jacob! Hope you’re enjoying. Stay safe and keep smiling!
Jacob you are doing outstanding videos now with these road attractions on our highways,,,,Your competition all he wants to do is drink coffee and brag about Disney and act like a child,,,its so boring.,,,again Jacob, you are doing entertaining blogs.
True, so many localities still call it Dixie and some of the states still call certain stretches some variation of 25: US25, CR25. Ohio and Michigan stopped calling it US 25 a few years after I 75 was built. Ohio still claims a stretch in the Toledo/Bowling Green area as SR25 but the rest of it was given to the counties and cities. US 25 signage ends at the Roebling suspension bridge that Jacob crossed from KY to OH. The Roebling is a smaller version of the Brooklyn bridge, also built by the Roebling family
I love the Dixie Highway videos! The small towns, museums , and little roadside oddities are so fascinating! Thank you for sharing and taking the trip on the highway, it’s like going back in time!
I hope you have winter tires on. You'll need them if they are getting the storm that we are. Our A&W doesn't have hotdogs of any sort . That looked good. You find some of the most interesting and unique signs and murals I have ever seen. Safe travels. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well ❤
We have had a little snow here today next to Sherwood Forest in the United Kingdom. Thank you for taking your Uk viewers with you on your trip with these videos 👍 stay safe / have fun and we can’t wait to see you in your next video.
Oh, man, that classic A&W takes me back to my childhood! IIRC (from, like, 40 years ago), it's actually the button above the switch that initiates communication, while the switch turns on a signal light on top of the menu, telling a carhop to come and remove your window tray when you're ready to leave.
I have only heard anyone call the eateries Coney Islands (Sometimes just Coney for short). We refer to the hot dog with chili as either a Chili Dog, or Coney Dog. I also loved seeing Cherry Hill Lanes show up on your trip as it is a short drive from our place and used to bowl there.
I definitely learned something and I've spent a lot of time in MI. I never knew that Coney Island is what you call a chili dog. In Ohio we also think of the Coney Island amusement park in Cincinnati
If you go back down Woodward and want a burger stop by The Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak and get a burger with a side of zip sauce. It will change your life!
Thank you for coming back to Detroit and showing more than the blight and empty buildings. My husband and I met you at the Mothman Festival in 2019 and my husband was watching this video with me and was happy to see the Sign of the Beefcarver sign...thats his favorite restaurant. I look forward to seeing you drive further north in Michigan. Its a beautiful state and we are proud Michiganders. ❤
Flint Michigan is the home of the REAL original Michigan coney island. It's a Koegel Vienna and a ground meat mix which is different than a chili dog which is the Detroit style Coney. Generally Flint Coney is served with chopped onions and mustard along with the ground meat mix.
Same weather as we’ve got at our place, rotten cold and icy, 8 mile by M&M, i knew it lol, that haunt place looked really good Jacob, looking forward to tomorrow’s trip, thankyou x 😁
I'm really loving this trip on the Dixie Highway!!! This is amazing to see all the old style stuff and the video store!!! My goodness!! It made it to 2021!! Sad to see it go, but I'm sure it's time. I am terrified of bridges. That bridge into Canada looks like death to me. Lmao!!! Even on the smaller bridge you were on, I cringe every time. Thanks Jacob for taking us on this journey!!!
Michigan has some big bridges! Three large bridges to Canada and a five mile long suspension bridge between the two peninsulas! Bridges have to be big and up high so our freighters can travel between the great lakes.
@@BmoreLioness You can walk it on the Labor Day Bridge walk, otherwise it's motor vehicles only. My husband proposed on the bridge under the south tower. I love the Mackinac Bridge!
When I hear the word Toledo I think of scales. Not the type found on fish, the other ones to weigh stuff, I believe this city is where the manufacturer originated.
Great series. Love road trips. My wife and I usually road trip from ohio to florida once or twice a year without a plan. Also travel around the midwest whenever we can. Cool seeing you travel up through our area. Stay safe and safe travels.
The first time I heard the term "Coney Island" used in relation to a hot dog was the Peter bogdanovich film Paper Moon, which was set during the great depression in the Midwest.
It's great to see the Abita Mystery House pin on your hat, on the dash, as you tour the frozen north! Crisco the Dancing Clown is definitely worth the price of admission there! Drive safe!
WELL,WELL, JACOB Have you had some winter driving experience You must have some and it doesn't look like it's to bad so Keep up the great work and I'm going back to watching the vlog so see ya in the next one this one in the 💰 bag
You were in my neck of the woods. I used to live in Jackson, Michigan, Ypsilanti, Belleville, Napoleon, Onsted, and Brooklyn. When I moved to Tennessee I was living in Jackson, Michigan and me and my Mother headed south to Tennessee. 🙂 Thank you for the memories of Michigan it was a cool video literally lol 😄
i love the painting for the family hardware business - especially because it’s painted over the “safety deposit vaults” sign engraved into the building. neeeeat
Family Video is a chain store that has been in business since 1974. They were started in Springfield, Illinois and were located throughout the Midwest (Internet is often not reliable in country). The company just announced they were closing about two weeks ago due to many stores being forced to remain closed due to shutdowns and their have been so few new movies released in past year. I am going to miss our Family Video very much. I discovered some real gems I would never have seen if streaming was the only option, as it is now (other than Redbox).
In Monroe you have competing Hot Dog stands that are on opposite sides of the River Raisin (Vince’s and Monroe’s Original Hot Dog). Both are only open in the summer. Monroe’s Original actually only sells chili dogs, root beer and chips, and car hops take and deliver your order. It is definitely worth checking out if you are ever in Monroe again in the summer.
If I'm not mistaken, that beautiful old hearse with the flame job at Rotten Manor is a 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse conversion done by Superior Coach Corp. Thanks for the awesome video, Jacob! Loving the Dixie Highway series!! Note: the Big Boy in today's video is a Bob's Big Boy; contrast to the Frisch's Big Boy in a previous Dixie Highway video
That "Sign of the Beefcarver" was cool ... finding all these haunts are cool ... you may need to hit this one ...and eat at the Beefcarver, just for the name. The Family Video near me closed in 2020. They tried CBD then closed. It was nice and fully stocked.
The last concert I got to go to was at Howard's Club H in Bowling Green. That was in March 2020 and if I had only known, I think I would have gone earlier that night...
That would be Murder INK not murder INN. LOL Family Video has announced they are closing as soon as they sell out what they have in stock. If you have not been The Henry Ford Museum is in Dearborn and is really cool. You will have to budget a couple of days in a future trip for that. Maybe you could combine it with a seasonal visit to that haunted attraction.
16:57 “says beans” haha. Awesome! Thanks for doing this. Super cool to follow along. You talk about an interactive map. Where do we find it? Travel safe and stay warm!!!
Aw man, a Family Video. I was so happy to see that, then the instant sadness when the sign said closing soon :/ I wish they'd somehow make a come back. I know I'm not the only one. I'd go every week if we still had any where I live.
These road trip daily vids are great. Please spend more time in Detroit this year. I am fascinated with the painted signage on the old retail buildings. It’s a lost art...
Grew up in the Detroit area but never made it to those areas by the Dixie Highway. I do remember eating a Sign of the Beefcarver as a kid. The Big Boy’s in the southeast Michigan area were Elias Brothers Big Boys.
Thanks for sharing, Im enjoying this series. I live vicariously through these because Im literally never going to have the energy, time, or money to travel.
Seeing the huge Faygo red pop can takes me back to my childhood. I remember seeing it in a lot more stores than today.
I love the older buildings with advertisements painted on the outside. Something that is almost lost today.
Liking all the old school roadside sights.
It’s so nice not to see “never ending” freeways for a change. Small towns can be so interesting, esp if you don’t live there. Thanks Jacob! Hope you’re enjoying. Stay safe and keep smiling!

Highland Appliance at 11:08! Their commercials, along with Fretter, were some of the best of the 80's. "Never eat spinach with a stranger."
Dixie Highway is just a local road now. Most people in Metro Detroit don't know it was the old version of what I-75 is today. It's just a name.
True, so many localities still call it Dixie and some of the states still call certain stretches some variation of 25: US25, CR25. Right! Being a born and raised Toledoan, it's sad how in educated the youth's of today are. SMH 😔
Next time you come to Michigan, visit Irish hills. There is an abandoned prehistoric park with old dinosaurs scattered throughout the woods
Yes! Prehistoric forest!
The guy that started Little Caesar's paid Rosa Parks' rent until she died. Excellent video, by the way...
That would be Mike ilitch. I met him once, he was a great guy. He also owned the Detroit Tigers.
Love that you’re in my hometown of Detroit. Just watching you walk on the same streets I have is amazing. Wish I can meet you one day Carpetbagger!!
You're definitely going to have to go back and check out the Rotten Manor!!
Yes definitely do this!! Rotten manor is pretty cool!!!
came here to say this lol
I'm thinking this might be your best series yet!
I love the Dixie Highway videos! The small towns, museums , and little roadside oddities are so fascinating! Thank you for sharing and taking the trip on the highway, it’s like going back in time!

holy shit! cherry hill is super super close to where my old high school was! so glad you stopped by our small town! safe travels!
rotten manor is insanely fun in the fall season, the ren fest is right up the road from there too!
This is a great road trip, so nostalgic
I’m from Michigan and when I see Coney Island I’ve never thought of the park 😂😂
I definitely learned something and I've spent a lot of time in MI. I never knew that Coney Island is what you call a chili dog. In Ohio we also think of the Coney Island amusement park in Cincinnati
Neither did I. THE park was Boblo. ⚓
@@constanttraveler We call chili dogs “Coneys” if you’re originally from the city. The place to get them is Coney Island.
@@CourtneyEmon good to know! I was just by there last year but I've never been to it
@@constanttraveler next time you’re here you should definitely check it out! They’re bomb!
Holy cow you tour in sun, rain, or snow!!!! Now I want to check this area also. Gremlins is a classic movie.

Great job Jacob
I'm definitely hitting some backroads on my day off this week. This roadtrip continues to be amazing.
Loving this road trip. It’s nice seeing these usually less documented sights
Snowy day there Jacob ❄❄
Very nice , looks dangerous with the weather , snow !
Nice LONG HOT DOG,
Next time you are in Detroit I’ll take you to some unreal spots yo. Dope video. Michigan has endless adventures.
Love when you do series! Stay safe out there!

I've really enjoyed this series so far! Love seeing all the little towns and nostalgic downtown streets. Now I'm really in the mood for a chili dog.
Sweet intro! I actually went to college there in Bowling Green
My cousin goes there currently. Go Mac and I went to the university of Akron. Have a great day.
Hi Jacob, very nice snow day at Ohio! Hope you stay warm and well! Awesome Vlog on the streets of Detroit!
Really loving this series, kind Sir! Thank you kindly! :) The A&W reminds me of the What-A-Burger #11 here in Mooresville. :)
This is one of your best videos Çarpetbagger
The first time I heard the term "Coney Island" used in relation to a hot dog was the Peter bogdanovich film Paper Moon, which was set during the great depression in the Midwest.
Surprised that you didn’t stop at Tony Paco’s while in Toledo with all of their signed hotdog buns
Love Packo's!
Yeah, that mattress with the couch on top... that's the Welcome to Detroit sign.
Bagger..i am loving all of this!! You are sooo close to me in canada
That's some good alliteration: Wetmore's Wobbly Wheels on Woodward
It's great to see the Abita Mystery House pin on your hat, on the dash, as you tour the frozen north! Crisco the Dancing Clown is definitely worth the price of admission there! Drive safe!
Really admire the speed you're ripping thru these towns with such great info!
Holy Toledo. Did you find out what that means? Holy cow this is a huge tour you even hit MI. Love all those local restaurants.

0:04 what I do EVERY SINGLE TIME it snows. Welcome to Michigan. I don't know how to deal with the snow. That's why Im moving to Florida 🌴🌞😎
"I do believe we're entering Detroit..." The 'bombed out' factory buildings give it away?? LoL
Your Coney Island dog looks mouth watering ❤️
Thanks for showing the architecture of these building gems. I am reminded of Kewaskum, downtown Hartford and West Bend WI.
Oh man! Bowling Green has some lovely museums. The Wood County Historical Museum is a treat, and Snook's dream cars is great for that classics.
Lol im not in Bowling Green; but live in Ohio and it snowed on and off all day; poor carpetbagger!! ❤
Cool ride on the Dixie Highway so for.
I'll never forget the classic Elias Brothers Big Boy. There used to be one in Sault Ste. Marie, MI and frequented one in Marquette.
That was fun! Thank you from Seattle Jacob, stay safe out in this world 🤗♥️
Yes the old carpetbagger intro song . Was hoping it would make a comeback
I wonder how much money you would need for gas, food and rooms to do this I'd love to do this
I asked the same question and highly get from nc to mi to fl to nc. What if vehicle breaks?
