Great to see you visited us! I am the Mayor of Holland, Michigan. We would love to have you back when the weather is warmer and our millions of tulips are in bloom!
The horse in the water on that map represents Mackinac island. As no motor vehicles are permitted horse and carriage is the preferred mode of transportation on the island.
The fish represents a type of fish called smelt (I think) which run in the thousands down rivers toward Lake Huron. People will go out with nets at 4am to snag a couple of coolers full.
You might want to Google that windmill in Holland. I lived up there until 2019, and I've been to the windmill. It's the very last windmill that the government of the Netherlands sold and allowed to be taken out of the Netherlands after World War II. It's actually a working mill in the summer time, and they sell the flour milled there, and local restaurants in Holland use it as well. The city of Holland holds a tulip festival the first weekend of May, and it's usually wall to wall people driving the streets to see all the tulips. Very pretty, though.
Hi Jacob! I just wanted to stop by to tell you that I am really having a blast watching your Dixie Hwy series! All the vintage signage you've been capturing are the stuff of my kitschy dreams! Thanks for this!
I have been living your Michigan videos. Im originally from Michigan and miss it a ton. When you said you were staying in st joe that tugged on my heart because that is so close to my family.
Traverse City is known for cherries. Every yrar they have the cherrt festival. Its huge. Michigan adventures used to be called Deer Park Funland when i was little. They have deer there. Since it changed hands it hsd been upgraded with better rides. You should go to Holland in zmay for the Tulip Festival.
Charlevoix is pronounced "Shar-le-voy". Michigan native here and we used to take weekend trips to Lake Charlevoix often when I was growing up. FYI Michigan's Adventure never even opened for the summer season due to Covid. They did open the adjacent water park to limited capacity though, which I thought was odd. BTW that big wooden roller coaster is called Shivering Timbers. I think the smaller one was the Wolverine Wildcat. When I was growing up, the park was called Deer Park Funland. The name changed in the 90's when Cedar Fair bought the park.
Thanks so much for posting all your vlogs on the Dixie Highway. My husband & I are truly enjoying them. We are such big fans of your channel. God Bless! We will be ordering a suitcase pin.
Love the visit to Muskegon and Holland. While I haven't lived there in a very long time Holland is my home town and I get back up there every once in a while. It's a beautiful little city with some great history, and 8th Street, Holland's main street, is about the coolest main street I've ever been on. Those crafty Hollanders even pipe warm water under the streets and sidewalks in the downtown area to keep them clear of ice and snow in the winter.
Michigander from Midland originally. Loved seeing all these places again. I went to college in the UP and been across the Mackinaw Bridge dozens of times.
Jacob! MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS ALL WATCH AND SUBSCRIBE! YOU ROCK DUDE!😄😄😄❤ FROM A PHILLY NATIVE THAT NOW LIVES IN MICHIGAN ...THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!💜💜💜 STAY SAFE!!!🌹🌹🌹🌹
Good morning Jacob, your story telling and your Image leadership is exellent. There is no increase possible. If the frontiers will be open again, my wife and I will definetly come.👍🇺🇸
The real building that the story from the movie wrong turn was based on is on the Indiana/Michigan boarder, its been cool seeing my hometown in this video!
I look forward to your post every morning. Sign of the times is NO snow on the ground in the middle of January. This could be the end of the snow mobile. When I say snow, I mean significant accumulation. Not enough there for a snowball fight or even reason enough to take out snow shovel. Drive safely and look out for black ice. It can be most dangerous in winter.
I have enjoyed your trip down the Dixie highway. Just haven't posted as a little under the weather. Stay safe. Going to go back and rewatch them again..
Always love your show and what you bring to us, I really enjoy that you do all the small side road towns and attractions. Good to see a channel that does not lock onto Disney attractions.
I also gotta say. I’ve lived in Michigan for all 26 years of my life, and you have managed to open my eyes to a lot of small town beauty in my own “backyard”. Definitely doing a Dixie highway trip in the summer because of you
We live about 2 hours away from Traverse City and we go for a few days every summer. Very fun! I also highly recommend you go to Frankenmuth if you’ve never been, the Bavarian Inn restaurant is really an experience like nothing else! Also, my home town is Port Huron and it’s a really neat little city, with a ton of history (the ice museum and Thomas Edison train car are not to miss :D)
Oh, that windmill island is cool. Truely looks like rural Holland, being the provinces in the North of the Netherlands (I'm living in the south). Very nice and special to me. Who had thought something like that would be found along the Dixie Highway? Great trip Jacob, and great video coverage.
This is awesome. I couldn't do it. Constant driving. But the site seeing is awesome ‼️l live in Michigan, ALL My life. And I have never been to these places. SO they're really awesome to see through your eyes 👀. I appreciate what you do for Us. Stay safe out there and Thank You for what you do. have A great evening ‼️🙋🏿♀️💕.
Oh my goodness! Dog and suds root beer and root beer stand is actually based out of Lafayette Indiana which is my hometown. I was always told that dog and suds was a franchise but that very few were still open. I was super excited to see this on your video!
Really enjoying this series Jacob. I like it when we get the road view as you are driving, stay safe, sometimes the roads look pretty hazardous. I am so tired of seeing Route 66 videos that this series is like a breath of fresh air. Thank you for making and sharing.!!
Can't wait to see tomorrow's video! South Bend native here! Hope you get a chance to hit the Chocolate Café, Notre Same and South Bend Chocolate candy tour!
This entire trip on the Dixie Highway has been truly interesting and I have enjoyed it so much!! I'm in the backseat and can't wait to continue hitting the road. Thanks so much!!
Holland is My hometown! Its a wonderful place! Be sure to come back in the spring when the tulips are blooming, and the rest of Windmill Island, Downtown, and the beach will be available!
Hey Carpetbagger been following you for last three years or and love your stuff.Im from GB your so fortunate to live in the amazing endless USA so many amazing places and sights to see love the road trip and hope you will be doing more. Please tell me you dont bed down in your car in these sub zero temps Take care and thanks so much for keeping me entertained in these dark days,
I’m really enjoying this series. I know your not a fan of the cold, snowy weather but i was watching this vlog and drinking a cup of cocoa. It was kinda cozy watching it snow lightly as you were talking about the pie wars. If the old buildings in this towns could talk, the history they have seen. It’s just a beautiful series. Might just be my favorite so far
This is such a terrific journey to share with us...thank you! Michigan seems like a quirky place to visit, and I'd like to at some point when things are more relaxed. Something about the snowy weather, those meandering, shuttered main streets, the absolute lack of people...it's just the pandemic aesthetic perfectly captured in a vlog, and I am absolutely loving it. ♡ Stay safe and drive carefully!
Love this trip. Interesting seeing where there is or isn't snow since I'm across the lake in Milwaukee. All the old signage is amazing. Can't wait to see this every morning . Thanks!
I've been watching the series with my husband and it's really been making me want to road trip more! I wish I got more PTO from work, I'd love to do a massive driving trip. Maybe one of these days, but until then, I'll be happy watching yours! 😊
Just started watching your videos and how surprised was I to see you in traverse city but then my own hometown of Muskegon!!! You’ll have to come back in the summer, not on a Sunday haha (religious town, everything is closed on Sunday’s here). There’s so much to do downtown and we’re season pass holders at Michigan’s Adventure.
You picked the absolute worst time for a car trip through Michagan. Spring, Summer and early Fall are beautiful in Michigan. Winter, not so much. Stay safe and safe travels!
This was another magnificent day; I'm so grateful......the winner of the Cherry Pie competition?...everyone who was able to have a piece of it......I loved the town looks; so different than our desert; such a luxury of water and whatever that white stuff is......I liked the man who gave back to the community.....etc....Thank you for the adventure
Just north of Holland is this awesome little lakeside town called Grand Haven. My family and I went there a couple of summers ago and just loved it! Just the cutest little town and lots to watch out on the water.
With everything going on in the world, I'm so here for small town Michigan pie drama.
BEST COMMENT EVER!!!
Much simpler times
Cherry pie baby!!!
Great to see you visited us! I am the Mayor of Holland, Michigan. We would love to have you back when the weather is warmer and our millions of tulips are in bloom!
He skipped Grand Haven.
What a nice comment! Thank you Mr. Mayor!
Thank you! Holland seems like a wonderful place, would love to see it in warmer weather
We visited Holland last Summer, really enjoyed it

Wow, I wouldn't have thought of that...Thanks!
The fish represents a type of fish called smelt (I think) which run in the thousands down rivers toward Lake Huron. People will go out with nets at 4am to snag a couple of coolers full.
My favorite thing in this video is where you are feeding almonds to the cute squirrel. Sweet!!
Brave man - showing us the country in these troubled times - thank you sir.
That wizard of oz exhibit outside the Holland library is sweet
The writer spent alot of time in Holland based the emerald city after the Castle in Holland
Be glad that we aren't all literally in your back seat. The bathroom stops alone would be a nightmare.
Ha! Everyone out here, I’m not stopping again!
No winners in the cherry pie game... Except the people who ate the pie.
Wonder how many people it served? And how big must the oven have been?
Warrant.
@@zig_zagman If I had been there, there would have been one.
And Canada.
Actually Canada won the pie game lol!!

This was one of the best vids you've ever filmed. Michigan in the snow is beautiful and your stories and observations were simply brilliant.
Thanks jacob.
Shar la voy Is how it's pronounced.
Thank you for the entertainment i played yesterdays travel to my seniors at work they love you.
Hi Jacob! I just wanted to stop by to tell you that I am really having a blast watching your Dixie Hwy series! All the vintage signage you've been capturing are the stuff of my kitschy dreams! Thanks for this!
That is a real Dutch windmill shipped over fom the Netherlands in the 1960 's
This is a really good series.
This is the most interesting series Ive watched on RUclips in a while, thanks for sharing.
You’re super close. Charloix is actually pronounced like “Shar le voy”.
Having a blast !!!! Thans for taking us along ❤
Dixie Highway is giving Route 66 a run for its money when it comes to roadside attractions!
I'm totally digging this Dixie Highway series. The fact that it is winter and lots of things are dormant just adds to the charm. Good job Dog!
Man that snow just makes everything even more beautiful!
A lot of Michigan wonderful places are closed during the winter, but you can still find some amazing things to do. Awesome video !
Especially in the UP.
I have been living your Michigan videos. Im originally from Michigan and miss it a ton. When you said you were staying in st joe that tugged on my heart because that is so close to my family.
Jacob thank you for taking me to places I could never go to 😊 keep safe
this so much fun to be with you my friend on this trip for sure.
I'm from Michigan, and we always said it SHAR-luh-voy. We went up there several times.

I'm so happy to be one of those kids in that backseat. 😆

Cedar fair hasn't owned it that long maybe 10 yrs or so it was just changed in the 90s when they added more and more rides
I love the drone footage and music! Great series Mr. Carpetbagger! Be safe
Thank You for stopping by Michigan
Great video Jacob, Holland has a large tulip display all over town in the spring
Thanks so much for posting all your vlogs on the Dixie Highway. My husband & I are truly enjoying them. We are such big fans of your channel. God Bless! We will be ordering a suitcase pin.
So happy to be riding along in the back seat with the other kids.
I look forward to every morning to see your video.

I am really enjoying watching the different places that you are visiting. Thank you for sharing!
Michigander from Midland originally. Loved seeing all these places again. I went to college in the UP and been across the Mackinaw Bridge dozens of times.
Its always weird seeing someone from your area online. Hello fellow Midlander!
Thanks Carpetbagger.
I have been a fan for a long time, and you have really helped me through dark times. Thank you for the laughs!
Loved the squirrel and that you fed it. Cute ♥️🤗 Seattle

I am thoroughly enjoying following along with your journey, but there’s one problem: I’ve developed an acute case of road trip envy.
