Renter-Friendly Apartment Bathroom Makeover Tutorial

- I have been living in my home for almost 5 months now and I was finally motivated to spruce up my shared bathroom. When I first moved into this rental with my boyfriend he had been sharing it with a roommate. Decorating was last on their priority list so I decided to give it a rental friendly bathroom upgrade.

You are hands down the best contact/wallpaper hanger I've ever seen. Gurl! I think you could do that for a living. I love the final outcome!!!
THANK YOU!!!!! You are so sweet! It was a lot of work but so worth it. xoxo
Right!!!
That's what I was thinking!! lol
Agreed
Love this! Moving into my first home this week and the bathrooms needs some TLC! This was so helpful. Thank you 💕
Girl, bless your patient heart 😩😂
Chateau Abrielle for real! This took awhile to complete. I listened to podcasts the whole time. It helped the time pass quickly.
Lol
😂😂
I love the wallpaper, but I'm not crazy about how it goes with the floor tile. I love baskets on the wall.
Sandra Buechner really??? I see what you’re saying ... but I like how it clashes... 💗I think it gives the bathroom
So much personality...
I agree. Think the wall paper above the chair molding and maybe white beadboard on the lower half would've been more cohesive with the flooring.
Sandra Buechner i agree and the floor is definitely the next thing I will be tackling.
I think she also should’ve changed the toilet seat cover & she could’ve painted the walls back white on top.
I would of just used the black and white marble but she does a great job with wat she had
The contact paper on the wood was such a good idea!
Erica Fiala thank you! I am grateful it works out. Not all DIYs do. Appreciate the love!
I have to admit this is one of the best renter friendly diy. Great outcome!
I would tie the black trim with the top trim to make it pop
Soul Sugar Succulent that would be beautiful!!!! Great idea!!!
I love that you did not use marble contact paper for the sink.. very original🤗
Kells730 lol yeah marble contact paper is very popular. My sink top is in good shape so I didn’t think it needed covering. Thanks for the ❤️❤️
Agreed. The fake marble counter top is so over done.
@@rachelafile yes
Clever girl and talented too. The only thing I would change would be the shower curtain and make it gray like the rest of the room. It may show up better in person than in the video. You did a great job! Congrats!
I think it looks good pink because her shower is tiled pink so im sure her tub is tiled pink as well. So she added pink curtains and a pink flower to match.
I would like in pastel green
That would be to much gray
jennifer jackson no ur wrong the curtain wa afine but she should have used the same color pink towels hanging by the sink instead of grey too much grey
I would have made the medicine cabinet black to compliment the black tiles. Looks good overall though.
Natalie Naturopath what a great idea! Thanks for watching and for the feedback!❤️❤️❤️
Love the contrast of the black & white tiles with the grey vanity & wall paper.
Do you have a video on how to do contact paper? The prep and application?
I really appreciate the question! I will make sure to do another video soon addressing that question to help. :)
The basket on the wall idea was engenius. Great job that looks absolutely fabulous
Jewelry Queen thank you!! It was such a great idea that I found on Pinterest.
The contact paper vanity looks amazing, but seriously the edges must have come up all over really quickly, and that was a heck of a lot of work!
I would suggest a white curtain and possibly raising the shower curtain much higher and getting an extra long shower curtain it will give more drama and a lux feel
*Very nice. 😍 I'd pain the door and window sill bright white and also change out that beige (off white-looking) toilet seat to match the white toilet. Great job!*
Miss Nicole - VPA love your ideas!! Thanks for sharing and watching!
Everything looks nice but the floor is bothering me so much since it doesn’t match 🤣
I thought it was just me
I think maybe she could choose a not so busy wall paper design.
Those floors are awesome.
Jassy Jas the floor is okay it’s the damn tiles in the shower
Black and white tiles are pretty neutral, they go with a lot of decors.
The owner must LOVE you. They should take off on ur rent IJS
It was so satisfying to watch the contact paper application in fast motion for some reason.
Dani Wells like visual ASMR? I love watching it too!
I’m seeing comments about you covering the floor tile. That tile is gorgeous. It’s very on trend right now. I wouldn’t do a thing to it!
If I didn't like something in my home, I'd change it. Doesn't matter if it's "on trend". I'd need to enjoy my home.
You NAILED IT with that contact paper!! Not a seam to be seen
This made me feel a lot better about my apartment
Wow! You did a beautiful job to a small bathroom to make it look big by just changing the look with contact paper. Who knew you could do that. Again great job.
Is the contact paper and wallpaper doing well in the bathroom? I would love to do the same in mine but I'm not sure how it they would hold up to moisture. Thanks for the video, you did a great job!
Natasha Raven so far it’s been up since March and i have had no issues with it lifting. We always air out the bathroom after showering so moister doesn’t build up. 😀
Is the paper that you put on the walls and the other paper you put on the cabinets easy to come off without any damage
Melissa Palafox I have used the same wall paper in my salon suite and it comes off it 2 seconds and doesn’t mess with the paint job underneath..I only had 2 spots where residue was left and that was from the warm dryers touching the paper.. I used apple cider vinegar and it cane off easily I didn’t even scrub.
I love how you kept the design cohesive between strips, it looks like all one piece!
I just remembered, there is also floor tiles that are like the contact paper.
Rayetta Perry I was me I do vinyl tiles to the foor to match
The floor tile is stunning. She would be crazy to cover that up!
Jessica Nicole I thought I was the only one thinking that!
T Brad, it’s very on trend right now too and timeless. Not sure why anyone would cover it up.
@@Jessa8891 I agree!!
I love the wallpaper. You need the Sink Topperr. It’s the best thing ever for small bathroom with no counter space. I got mine on Amazon
YESSS!!! GREAT JOB!!!! Beautifully conquered!!!! And the colors, I LOVE THE COLORS!!
R Martin you are so Sweet! Thank you for the amazing feedback!! ❤️❤️❤️
Girl, I give you mad props for your skills with the contact paper and wallpaper placement. The space turned out great!
Htown Andi I cant thank you enough for your kind feedback!!! I appreciate you!!
Htown Andi you just made my day with your comment. Thank you so much!!!
Great job!!! Sidenote: Lemon juice [fresh or bottled] will clean the glass door... live the organization
I love the black contact paper. Genius.
I think you should add faux tiles to the floor to tie everything in together but so far it looks good ♥️
Faux tiles would look great! I agree!
But the tile on the floor is beautiful!
OR she cud just buy a pretty rug that matches and cut it out around the sink , toilet AND TUB
Way simple way easy in under a hour.!!!
@@lifeisthedash agree
Youre very clever I never thought of that so much more budget friendly then paint thank you so much you've changed things in a major way for me I absolutely love this!!!
5:58 ~~~~~ Yea yu do, and I LOVE it!!!!! I’m definitely inspired!!!! Great makeover!!!!
Idk how u managed to line the designs up on the wall paper so well but its amazing
Angela Williams it took a love patience but it was so worth it! Thank you!!!
Wow!!! You did an amazing job!! Your bathroom makeover turned out so nice!! Tfs 😁
Just came across your video and I must say I'm impressed. I'm not a renter, but I hate my builder grade bathroom cabinets. Your contact paper idea has given me a very creative solution. I just hope I can apply it as skillfully as you did. Great job!
Michelle Conteh thank you for watching and for your feedback! I’m so happy this project could inspire you to apply to your bathroom cabinets!!❤️
You kill things, but you build things beautifully! New subbie!
Thanks for subscribing!
That is really beautiful. I hope everyone appreciates it and help keep it up.
Tina L. Jones thank you! It held up really nicely for 7 months. I had to take it down because we just moved out of state. It definitely would have held on longer if we had stayed.
Can you see the overlapping of the contact paper?
Bathroom looks great btw.Looks very comfortable
Ophelia Campbell great question! No you can not see the overlap. I think with the wood grain finish and the damask print, it hides the overlap.
Girl you are so good at applying contact paper you didn’t even took off the cabinets door it looks so nice wow
This really excites me
.. I cant wait to renovate my own apartment 😭😭
If you like to renter's friendly floor tile...I did my floor by putting plastic (such as thick trash bags cut to size) on the floor and put the new tile ( of your taste) over the floor and corked around it to seal it. As far as the tile on the trim I painted it ( color of your liking) seal it with clear spray paint to lock in color when cleaning ( use water only damp cloth). When move out pull the floor up and use paint remover for the trim and there your all done...I love your bathroom make over...
Mondae Anderson thank you for watching and for the wonderful idea!! You rock!!!
That's gorgeous! Hun would you consider painting the walls a light Gray?😍😍😍 that would really take it to the next level. You nailed it!!!! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
She is a renter, not allow to paint
@@sammydolly7367 same here, but could use a solid gray contact paper if she had wanted
You did an excellent job with that contact paper! It looks so much better than before! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️❤️
April B thank you!! I really appreciate you watching and your feedback.
You have some serious skills 👍🏻👍🏻
Victoria K I appreciate it!!! Thank you!
OMG i cannot believe your cabinet was not painted lol. I took my eyes off the video for a second and had to rewind to see you putting the paper on. Great work
MISS Thommas thank you so much! I appreciate you watching and taking the time to share feedback!❤️❤️❤️
Amazing ideas imma try some of these ideas in my barracks
Sounds like you're in a branch of the military. If so, thank you greatly for your service.
Victoria Espinoza awesomeness!!! Would love to see what you do. Tag me on Instagram @artsandclassy.
Ur wallpaper skills, honey!!!! Love this and it looks amazing!

I love this idea for a bathroom! but what color would i make the floors, i wanna use tile stickers? thinking about marble???
How's the contact paper holding up? Does it still look good?
Thank you for hearing me out and not being aggressive was just my thoughts on what would look good... but you do beautiful work..
@@yousefalshumary6055 That sounds incredible!!! You have a great eye!
@@AngelaBronson It held up well! I had to take it down after about 6 months because I moved. But it would have stayed on much longer.
Your bathroom turned out lovely. Beautiful job. Found your channel will b watching again . You make it look so easy .🙂👍
Donna Shortall thank you for watching my makeover and for your sweet comment. I appreciate you!!!
If you can do more projects using contact wall paper that will be so great.......is it hard to take off??? You know after you move from a rental???
I so appreciate the feedback Donna! I plan on doing one more in my bedroom and I will think of some other contact paper ideas since its a popular subject for renter especially. It is super easy to take off and doesn't damage the surface you apply it to. :) I have used it many times in past rentals.
Also can you do diy for using contact paper on the toilet tank and seat cover please and thank you
@Arts & Classy
Would be interesting to know how to remove that contact paper when you move out? Acetone?
You need to have walls with a sheen. If you put any time of peel and stock wallpaper or contact paper on matte walls it will test the drywall when taken off.
Omg You are so good at putting up the contact paper on you bathroom wall And it looks Amazing.. Well done
Sophia Ferry thank you!!!! I appreciate your feedback! Thanks for commenting.
It looks beautiful! Want to come do my house?! Great job!
Would be delighted to!
This is the first time I have ever seen someone place the wallpaper on the lower portion of the wall. I do like it but I am surprised you didn't add the paper to the top of the wall and created a wainscoting treatment to the bottom. That is some beautiful wallpaper and having it on top would have probably been less work and made a greater impact. Nevertheless; you should definitely hire out your services because you did a phenomenal job!
CAN YOU DO MINE???!!!! 🤦🏾♀️😩😩🤦🏾♀️
The struggle is so real in my bathroom
Thanks for turning me onto this song...love it!
Dutchess Dioji so happy you love it!! Isn’t it great? My husband is the composer. ❤️
I like the wall paper u shld Cover that hideous floor too
Sasha LabellaSoul thanks! Lol maybe in time I will try the floor but it’s in good shape so with this makeover it wasn’t necessary.
Umm that floor isn't hideous.
Have you seen linoleum???
@@SjofnBM1989 I once had a bathroom floor just like it and hated it ..It my opinion!
I love the floor
That kind of floor is original to the building i bet....and people will pay thousands now and days for that same look.
Love how it looks like
You are my new best friend in my head you are so detailed I love it I am a new subscriber
red roses i am honored to be your new bestie! Thank you for subscribing!!!
That looks awesome!! You did a fabulous job!!
Suzanne Anderson thank youuu!!!❤️🙏
You should use some wooden stick and peel tiles for the floor, it doesn't match what you have going on and makes the bathroom too busy
It's black and white what do you mean it "doesn't match." They're neutral colours. And they're in really good condition. Why cover it with some cheap peel and stick tiles?
@@SjofnBM1989 it has nothing to do with the colors it's the different patterns
I like everything,except the tile floor.I'd like to try the the compact plastic baskets.You could use a combination of white & black baskets,to store bathsoaps,moist wipes,powder,razors,facial tissues,air fresher,hair products,bath sponges,bath puffs,bath toys,etc. Thanks for the useful tips.
Kenya Pope thanks for the feedback. I agree that the floor is busy but that could be a whole other project. I am moving soon so I won’t have an opportunity to cover the floor but I’m excited for my next home and all the projects I will get to complete. I agree that the baskets make great storage and they are super light and easy to hang. Happy this could inspire you!
Make sure you ask your landlord before doing this!!! Not all of them are the same 💯 mine won’t let me do it sadly 🤷🏻♀️ looks great tho
The point of doing this is you dont have to ask your landlord. Its not actual walpaper and is just temporary. So you just put it up, and pull it off before you move out. It doesnt po ull of paint or do any damage and actually keeps your walls and cabinets clean and pristine underneath.
It doesn’t matter if you renting you have to let your landlord know. It’s common sense
Beautiful job on your bathroom. Very clever and creative. Now your video is inspiring me to do a makeover in my little apartment.
PICKLED TOE JAMS thank you!!! I’m so happy this could inspire you to tackle your apartment!! I would love to hear how it goes! Keep me posted.👍❤️😍🎯
You get a double A+. Lol.
Thank you Joyce!!
Wow! Grrl you can get down! I've never seen anyone handle wallpaper like that. Good job! Very nice!
Wow, thanks!
Do a DIY of your makeup thing hanging on the wall!!!
5280 Reina ask and you shall receive! It’s a diy video I am currently working on and hope to have it up on the channel on Sunday. ❤️
The makeup board tutorial is up! ruclips.net/video/b0BPa7ZhW58/видео.html
Yes Glad to find this! Great job my rental is old and so outdated as well but still not as nice as your before…thanksfor inspiration.. Even today I can’t find any DIY for really dive apartments like mine, peeling paint windows over painted etc.. Keep up your greatness
Thanks so much for showing how to do the cabinet, I've been scared to touch our bathroom cabinet!
Gwen1978 thanks for watching!! If you cabinet is real wood you should go for
It!! If it’s particle board or pressed board I would not attempt this project.
Sis you're a real DIY BOSS! you really blew me away! You did an epic job wow! 💪✊
Its pretty wall paper but definitely don't go with the floor it does not match at all
Wow!! It definitely looks like the wallpaper and contact paper is a decent amount of work and time but I’m so impressed and definitely got ideas for my own apartment!
Nice job!! They should deduct your rent lol... does the paper peel the wood
Buy a extra tall black (and/or Grey) drape to use as shower curtain to tie in everything and take it all the way to the ceiling ii will add height to the bathroom. Paint the chair rail and window Frame and window sill black to make it pop. Great job on the papering. impressive!
Agreed that would really make it pop with the black
I’m curious does the stick paper on your cabinet, will that come off?
I think would be more better to paint the cabinet.
@@eslaverdadaunqueteduela1131 The whole point of this video is that you can't paint, being a renter
It would be interesting to hear how you'll remove that contact paper.
I believe it comes off with heat. Maybe like a steamer, or hair dryer? Maybe I’m wrong.
You seem to have such a humble and sweet personality. You did an amazing job! Creativity is such a superpower when we tap into it♥️♥️. Keep shining☺️
Phoenix Simone wow thank you! So kind of you to say that. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Your comment made my whole night. 😀 I agree that creativity is a super power and it’s an amazing sense of calm and peace when we tap into it.
I don’t like the wall paper it’s too much gray against the wood
Grain. But you applied it so well
I have that same medicine cabinet in my bathroom. It is a dinosaur from the 80s. Time to shop for some contact paper to bring it back to life! Your bathroom looks great! Thanks for sharing!
Does the contact paper fall off with the steam from the hot water??? I would love to to revamp my bath but was always afraid to do all that work come off.
Melinda Cabrera no, I have had some up in my bathroom for 2 years without any issues. I also have some around my sink and I sealed it with silicone caulk
Melinda Cabrera great question! So far I haven’t had any issues or to reapply the contact/wallpaper. I air out the bathroom after showering to prevent moisture from building up.
Arts & Classy Thanks, another question. So when it’s time to remove it, it won’t peel off the paint?
Melinda Cabrera another great question. That’s the beautiful thing about contact paper. It doesn’t damage the surface it’s applied to.
Over time yes. My grandmother has it in her bathroom. It’s peeling all over the place.
I L:OVE what you did with the counter. THe grey wood peel and stick looks amazing
Aubrey Major thank you for watching and commenting!!! I agree that grey contact paper looked so much better. Totally exceeded my expectations.
How is this renter friendly? Contact paper on wood is nearly impossible to get off.
If you heat the contact paper with your blow dryer before you remove it, it will come off just fine 😊
@@nettanetta1797 Thank you! Yes it's easy to take off with a little heat.
Girl !!! Wanna come to my wardrobe with those contact paper skills !!!! DANG 😍
Music is too loud even when ur talking, makes it difficult to hear
Great job!
Please show detail on how you used the black contact paper on the tile and baseboards. And can you post an update on how well it’s holding up?
Thanks 😊
I would change the curtain to stark white with maybe black shower curtain rings or something but what a great job you did putting up the contact and wallpaper!👏👏👏👍
Shiahian that would look beautiful! Great eye!!
I seen the way you were applying the contact paper NICE. This is the way I going to this process when the time comes.
This turned out really really well. You did a great job with your matching.
Bravo! Looks super. 10 times better than before!
She did an AMAZING job on the walls and cabinet!
Amazing job. I tried to apply contact paper twice in my life and I aged 10 years on both occasions, it's so difficult. But you are a master at it! :)
Cecília Nagy thank you so much!! It definitely takes patience. I appreciate your feedback. ❤️
Sis I'm not crafty at all so I'm low key scared I'm going to mess something up. Lol. This is inspiring.
HershyK21 don’t be scared! The beautiful thing about contact paper is that if it doesn’t go on the way you want you can gently peel it off and try again. Just go slowly and visually map out how you want it to look. You can do this! Thanks for watching and commenting. 😍
Looks amazing! Love the baskets. I rent and don't have much storage room either.
Thanks for the inspiration❤
You are so welcome!
I love it!!! You should also add the floor pops peel and stick floor tiles. AWESOME job!!!
So smart! Love the grey color scheme, please consider a white curtain, would really pop. Like the baskets, maybe adding additional baskets by the sink area would help. Love the music also, great job!
Re glossing the door and window sill etc a nice fresh clean white would make a huge difference and a landlord wouldn’t mind as your making it better it’s so easy to do I did all the doors, radiators and skirting boards in my house and it looks so much fresher.. if you use a non oil gloss it won’t yellow over time xxx
Please do a video on how you applied your wallpaper and contact paper so well! You made it look flawless. I did my full wall in my bedroom and it turned out nice, but I'd love to hear some tips from you!
Jessie Astrup thank you for the feedback! I would be happy to add that to my list of videos to create. I want to help anyone feel more confident applying this kind of wallpaper.❤️
Gurl you were working that contact paper & wallpaper!! The only thing that would’ve made the makeover pop more is some type of window treatment. I know there isn’t much space but I know YOU can make it happen! Great job!
This is probably one of the nicest renter friendly makeovers. Everyone uses the same products you used but theirs is so tacky and distasteful. You not only did a fabulous job but you have an eye for design! Props to you and this video! I hope you do more like this!
I have a few ideas to try:
.Contact paper the door
. New outlet covers
. My new apartment has stained trim and I’m considering contact papering the trim white.
Much love from Oklahoma
