  • Third video in Negative painting technique series in Watercolors and this time I'm painting some green leaves, flowers and foliage. I'll walk you through the whole process, from working with reference photo, sketching and painting. What makes this video from the others is that this time I'm using masking fluid for some parts and will share tips and trick for working with this medium.
Please give it a 👍 if you enjoyed watching to support my channel.
    Materials:
    Paper:
100% cotton paper, cold pressed, fine grain, 300 gsm thick (recommend using a cotton paper since this technique requires multiple layers of paint and cotton paper)
    Brushes:
    - Flat brush: Winsor & Newton, Cotman, One stroke 25 mm/1 (large brush for covering the page with clean water)
    - Round brush: LaVanche 3325 series, size 16,
    - Round brush: Da Vinci (Petit gris mix) size 6 and 4
    - Rigger brush: Da Vinci (Cosmotop spin) size 1
    - A small craft brush (I'm using a local brand size 5) for masking fluid. OBS! Don't use a fancy brush for masking fluid, it's easy to damage it.
Maskin fluid from Winsor & Newton
Terpentine from Winsor & Newton for cleaning the brush after using masking fluid
    Paint:
    - Gold paint from Rosa (800 Gold)
    - Lemon yellow from Schmincke
    - May green from Schmicke
    - Spring green from Daniel Smith
    - Prussian green from Daniel smith
    - Prussian blue from Daniel smith
    - Indigo from Rosa
OBS! You don't need to use these specific brands. Also different brands name their colors differently.

Gorgeous. Such depth. I think negative painting probably helps with drawing skills, too, by learning to see the spaces between objects.

Regarding cleaning brush filled with masking fluid: rather than using turpentine *AFTER* using masking fluid, try rubbing wet bristles with dish soap *BEFORE* putting the brush into the masking fluid. That way, the brush can simply be rinsed with water rather than a strong chemical.

I just started with water color, so pardon the dumb question, but HOW do you get your paint so flowey and yet so saturated? I can only seem to get it so concentrated it doesnt move, or so diluted the saturation and tone is really light and not very controlable.

    • @Neginz-Art
      @Neginz-Art  10 месяцев назад

Not dumb at all. Watercolor is known to be the hardest medium to work with and water control is something that takes time and patience. But I suggest to always wet your pallet with some water, not too much. A water spray bottle is the best. Let it sit for like a minute or two before you start painting to get the best consistency.
