most people who argue that something is too childish are people who need to compensate by liking only ''dark gritty things'' because deep down, they feel like they aren't grown up enough, deep down they are desperately trying to proof to themselves and everyone else that they are an adult and only do adult things lol poor people.
How bout you shut up alright and you’re understanding of people is fucking wrong if they don’t like this childish art style and prefer dark gritty things then that is the type of games that they enjoy playing there is no need for you to insult them and I don’t see wtf is so funny about you insulting those people who don’t like this game because this isn’t their type of game especially when they never played another FF game before if you played multiple FF games or even played all of them and you love them then yeah you’ll love this game but if you never played a FF game before and then seeing the art style then hell yeah it’ll be a turn off to certain people.
The issue isn't childish, rather there is an issue with many kid focused products outright being unpolished typically and often even forgoing story for jokes these days. It isn't inherently bad to be childish but people have learned that fire burns. So they stop touching it. All they had to do was push a little of mid-late game story. It is a good game, but the start of it feels like nothing will ever happen note worthy. Once you meet Yuna the other half of the game reveals itself and it is a good balance of light and dark.
I honestly put it as one of the best FF titles I've ever played. Or, well, on top spot with FFX. It wasn't that easy to understand (at all) and would make my head explode at times (I mean, it took you 30 minutes to explain all, in fact!), the gameplay was IMO very nice and super tactic based, forcing you to study what the hell you were doing to succeed instead of just using the cutest or badassest mirages into your team (you even had to properly think of if it was truly useful to morph them into different forms if it changed their size and skills drastically, not to mention what to put in the free spots per mirage to customize their skills with something you may need but they wouldn't otherwise learn), the characterisation, the world itself, the music (some tracks are just on another level that even surpasses numbered FFs)... I played only a bit of FFXV so I may have to need it before I truly realize how good it is (though, as of now, I haven't liked anything at all from it, sadly...), but I honestly think WoFF > FFXV with ease. It's a pity that people went "Pffft, fuck it, it's a casuals FF made to bring kids closer", because even if that was what SE had initially said about this game, it turned out to be one of their masterpieces that leaves you shocked by how amazing it is. It even let you use other characters for minigames at some point, which was great. I loved the Lighting part, I failed so many times because it's not easy at all! Not to mention the tracks taken from the other games and remade for it, sometimes even becoming better than the original... I loved every second and I was addicted to it, I didn't stop playing for an entire month, spending any second while free at home on my PS4 with this game. The final boss was also quite a challenge (unless you cheated it with items to deal dozens of damage in the quickest way possible by dismounting and going middle-finger to his face) and did me in a few times, forcing me to collect more mirages and strengthen the ones I already had! This game was a 10/10 in my opinion, one of the best releases of its year. So, thank you for this great video about it!
24:50 actually speaking of that ending if you read in game their descriptions say that they are copies of them and that the real ones are still on the other side of the ultima gate with the possibility of a second game to continue their story.
Love this video! Really tragic how many people still sleep on WoFF just because of its aesthetic, despite the fact that it's such a deep and engaging story.
The game's story opened up and became so great in the second half of the game. The problem is the first half had almost no story at all. It was just like, "Here are these characters you barely know. Hopefully the fanservice will hold you over until about 60%". I enjoyed it though.
I hope that we can get to see Tama, Hauyn, Ana Kros, the girl that forgot her name, Lann, and Reynn in other final fantasy games/worlds. Lann and Reynn preferably with their mirage hunter powers intact and with their ability to switch between their giant form and human sized form.
Underrated game ppl wanted old school combat and a classic story. Then they complained that the art style was the one reason to avoid the game. It's far better than final fantasy 15 honestly.
wiseguy240 I kept away cause it seemed to me like Square took the feedback of "make the games more like you used to" to mean "give us massive fanservice." I want something new in the same style, just like the games always were made. Should I still give it a try, even though the idea of having all these characters coming together to give me nostalgic feels gives me nothing? I'm hoping you'll say yes =)
KiddDaPhoenix Yes nostalgia hits you a couple times in this game but there's more depth to this game than that. This was SE's victory lap with FFXV a month away.
I wouldn't take those negative reviews too seriously cause most are just haters. WoFF is a really underrated game with a surprisingly serious and often dark story saying it us for children just goes to show those negative reviews have no idea what they are saying or even have played the game at all. anyways great work on the lore tour.
Real talk Pez I wasn't lost at all during the entire video, actually I think u missed a few points, both minor amd major things like Tama's vast pool of abilities include her practically being immortal. It cost one or more lives to use her powers but since she has 9 and her natural ability allows her to restore her lost lives after resting a bit so yeah as long as it's not a big ability like reversing time as much as she did to save Lann she can live almost forever. And that the female human form of Enna Kos was the lover of the Alexander god that fused with her since he loved her so much. And a few questions I have is how do we know that there aren't more than 14 exnine knights and that all of them are automatically bahamuts, I think and hope that there are more of them and of different species than brandelis. Oh and how did you find out the Girl who forgot her names true identity? Other wise amazing video as usual pez I completety agree with the whole "convoluted" excuse simple minded people give to stories and concepts they themselves either couldn't understand or were to lazy to try to understand. All the info was there in the datalogs if they just bothered to look it up just like in FFXIII, the whole story is right there easily dissected piece by piece for any one to understand if you only bothered to look it up and read it honesty there is no excuses for not it getting it, anyways excuse my miny rant keep up the good work pez would love to start up a WOFF discussion with a fellow lore fan.
you mean, after Heavensward, Stormblood, FF15, Type 0 and probably 12... Then yeah. Again, not remotely implying WoFF is a bad game, is like Dark Souls 2, being the worst of the series(I mean DS2, not WoFF) doesnt change that it is still way better than most other game releases. And no opinion in the world, regardless how objective it might be, should ever change your personal enjoyment of the game. I do hope they can work on their own spin off series for WoFF, it had a lot of charm, and in many ways, was the closest to a "classic" combat system for the series.
Really glad to see a lore video of this. There were so many questions I had and it’s so nice to see someone else addressing them in such a great video.
who the fuck said KH is for kids? We actually made a drinking game out of it: Whenever you ask "what?" when someone is explaining the story, you drink.
Spoilers: It's hilarous that in the Final Fantasy game most people hate for being "too cute" you not only sacrifice your mascot partner after 40-ish hours but you also kill your parents. And you were the reason the world is doomed. Such good plot twists!
con·vo·lut·ed: (especially of an argument, story, or sentence) extremely complex and difficult to follow. You might not LIKE the word but it's definitely true. WoFF and KH are literally the definition of the word. I like that I have to guess some but I wish it would come together more coherently in the end.
shout out to all my fellow complex story fans like FFXIII, KH, Metal Gear and WOFF stories that always have to deal with people down playing and designating their games as pez said as "overly convoluted" just because they either can't understand it or dont bother to try to understand it. They are made ingeniously complex not convoluted. They are amazing games that make us think in unconventional ways rather than settle for the dumb down turn your brain off stories that anyone can understand. They refuse to appeal to lowest common denominator to achieve mass market appeal for higher sales and instead chose to follow their creative version to its fullest and expand the barriers of fiction and story telling.
WoFF has a special place for me , first streams I got involved with and started talking to people and look where we are now 😅 loved the game and all its banter and story
Pez, you are fantastic at explaining lore. I finished the game a couple of days ago and I got most of it but watching your videos always helps me wrap my head around loose ends. Keep it up man (y)
It's really a damn shame you don't have more subscribers. It's like I wished for an FF fan as fervent as myself and you magically popped out of the fantasy multiverse to answer all my questions. I can think of something lore related and you magically have a video diving into the deepest parts of it. You're a final fantasy treasure. We need to petition to have you as an NPC in one of the games. On another note, any chance of diving into the apocrypha? I'm dying to get the full story on Aris and the knights of the circle. Edit: Let's start a podcast discussing purely final fantasy. There's gold to be mined there.
You know what's another game that deserves a lot more love than it gets? FFX-2. The story is really deep; the theme is serious and meaningful, and it runs not only through the main quest but all the sidequests as well, and it even builds on some thematic elements that emerged from X's backstory. And then that stupid, _stupid_ so-called "good" ending undercut the entire thing. I'd love to see you do a video on that one.
It's so strange to watch a Pez analysis without him saying "It's Ardyn!!" Every five minutes. XDJokes aside, admittedly I haven't played the game but I do want to. It looks like loads of fun. (and it's really cute, not gonna lie)
¿the Lann and Reynn that Enna Kros takes back after the ending, are the same Lann and Reynn as before but without their powers, or are they a reflection of them in this universe created by her?
I am 39 years old and I played final fantasy games since NES I am a true fan of Final Fantasy but I will tell you one thing ... how can possibly anyone say this game was bad....? how? this game is one of my favorite Final Fantasy games , the story is amazing is a ATB time base true RPG something that we in 2022 we don't have anymore .... and Brandelis is one of the worst villain's he did the worst thing to a human being destroy your parents the twins were responsible of everything , even the dead of their own parents and the ending is dam sad.. the most underrated game ever , ever and is very sad and unfortunate that the good work on a awesome game like this is not being recognized.. one of the best ff titles ever.
Love love love WOFF. The "convoluted" lore sealed the deal for me. It's whimsical, downright slapstick at times, and was definitely a wild ride, but I think it just tickles every particular FF-fan bone in my system :D
By the way, it seems like the power to create mirages out of characters from other universes is the same thing as the power to create visions from FF Brave Exvius. It seems that SE has created a consistent justification for any instance of characters from other worlds being recreated. Strong memories can be shared among the the worlds' creator crystals, and this includes specific characters. It's probably related to the reoccurance of tropes, jobs, spells, and everything else. Even though all the worlds are separated by the Void, information from memories can still pass among them freely.
I am really happy someone has covered the lore of WOFF. I loved the game I cried like a little baby but I loved it. I was a little confused by some things but you have cleared it all up for me! thank you so much for this video!
Raddenleggazz Leggazschmeggazz I agree, but I think the single save slot was done to facilitate cross-platform saves. I don't own a PSVita so it didn't matter to me, but it would have been hard to offer that feature if there were tons of save slots.
Where was the name Roksanne mentioned?? I knew Enma Kros’ nand was an anagram or reversal of something, but I couldn’t figure it out. That is incredibly cool about Alexander the Great. Squeenix is brilliant with these references. I’m playing Maxima right now on my Switch. I love this game.
A few minor mistakes I caught, nothing of it breaks the point you make but just to correct it: 1.) Brandelis is not actually the King of the Bahamut people. Seqwarides just gave him that title because it sounds so impressive. And that is the reason Taibabylo was so angry (aside from simply being choleric). 2.) Fake Nine Wood Hills was not made by Enna Kros. It actually was made by Reinn and Lann's father Roderic who was an Architect using the same technomagic used to create prisms. 3.) Reinn and Lann are not the Demon Diad's servants, they are the Demon Diad. Because they as younger kids did not have proper control over their more powerful mirages those were running amok and people blamed Reinn and Lann and gave them that nickname A thing I am not sure is _wrong_ but at least debatable. I don't think Reinn and Lann became mirages in the end. I remember a missable conversation if you went to the real Nine Wood Hills after resurreting Tama but before the True Ending and talked to Wyn there, you talked about how Mirage Keeper powers worked and how they differed from a summoners power. Mirage Keepers use their prismariums to create a copy of a mirages soul and use that to call the mirage to them and bind it to their will. And during that conversation they brought up the theoretical possibility of doing the same with humans and their souls but say for that one needed to be a Human Keeper and she never heard of such a person. And that is what I think happened in the end through the God and possible human keeper Enna Kros, which also fits the whole champions as characters from other worlds theme. Reinn and Lann were reborn, not as mirages but as champions.
does that mean all final fantasy games up to 15 are connected and is enna kros the god of all of them or at the very least a list of alexanders along with her being the true being behind kingdom hearts
I also despise the word "convoluted"... To me, Kingdom Hearts isn't "convoluted", it's a actual clusterfuck of a incomprehensible MESS! After all, "convoluted" means you can understand if you try hard enough, whichi absolutelly isn't Kingdom Hearts' case.
Actually, what was Seraffie's deal? She seems to be comparable in power to Tamamohime (or at least able to match the powers and abilities of her re restricted form, which would include having multiple lives to trade with The Girl Who Forgot Her Name in order to resurrect Lann and Reynn) seeing as how she can apparently retroactively replace Tama for the entire game without changing anything else in the plot, but we get next to no backstory for her.
Great vid, though I have a couple of points, Mirages aren't native to Grymoire, it's said at the beginning that like champions they are picked from other worlds and only a portion of their power makes it through and once defeated they return to their original universe, and second Aris isn't Big bridge but another form of Enna Kros, this is referenced in the apocrypha as Aris familar is Serafie and Enna Kros mentioned her chains Aris had when speaking to Big Bridge Alexander, that is how both Tama and Serafie know Enna Kros
I loved this game, have on PS4 and Vita, then upgraded to Maxima through patch- got all the DLC. I enjoyed this game more than FF XV really. Following this lore in story is akin to following lore in a Dark Souls game kind of - it isn't all spoon fed and it appears fragmented when you play a certain way and not linear. But there is so much to this game- putting it in again now to see if I can 100% all mirages and stories. Criminally underrated, especially if you love all past Final Fantasy's from 35 years.
Good video sadly I was one of the people who passed on this game but I don't mind spoilers so I watched this whole vid and it makes me want to play the game even more!
So were the FF characters you meet here different people then those from the original games, very similar but different pretty much like the FF characters In KH
Really underrated. I really enjoyed it. Hope we get another WoFF game. When is the Pez coming back to Eorzea? I'm just finishing up Heavensward. Stormblood looks fantastic.
I really like this game, but I was disappointed in how Lann went from a frazzled but competent barista to a guy you wouldn't trust with a box of wet matches in the space of the first hour, and his character continued bouncing around all over the place for the entire game, with no rhyme or reason. Like that scene where Reyn talks about his preternatural danger sense keeping him from getting them into fights they can't win, which not only never comes up again, but also occurred almost right after he got them both killed for the first time by jumping into a fight without checking to see if they could win. Also, the butterfly-themed Girl Who Forgot Her Name and her Off-Brand Velvet Room were super boring in design and performance (though led to a lot of fun quests). Fortunately, Persona 5 more than made up for it both of those fields, which is kinda unexpected on the barista thing, so I'm feeling a lot more lenient to WoFF after finishing P5. Now I just wish that the Vita version was properly optimized. After FFX/X2, there's no reason why Squenix couldn't get it to look more polished, and those alongside games like Persona 4 Golden, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, and Tales of Hearts R show that the load times in the type of games should be nowhere near this bad. EDIT: Also, how FF9 fans kinda got trolled by having Vivi as a Champion that couldn't be summoned.
This was well explained but i have to say, just because you can understand these stories (kh and to a lesser extent woff) doesn’t make them not convoluted. They are extremely convoluted.
Don't know if you'll read this Peasant, but are there plans on going back to Final Fantasy 8, or has it been cancelled? I wanted to wait until all of it was out since I've never seen the whole thing from start to finish, and noticed it hasn't been updated in a while. I think I heard something about port issues being the cause? Just wonderin' man.
I also loved World of Final Fantasy. I like your comparison to Kingdom Hearts--when I started playing it I said it was like Kingdom Hearts without the Disney! I liked the stacking mechanics and combat a lot, and I agree that the story is much deeper and more moving than some give it credit for. Thanks for doing this video!
ff 4 the after years explained that all the games with the crystal storyline are connected because a being created the crystals to keep an eye on said worlds
Hey Pes thank you so much for doing this video. At first i wasn't going to buy this game because I'm not a fan of chibi, but after seing how complex and awesome the history is, I bought it and I'm so happy I did! Such a fun and incredible game this is, my only regret is not buying it sooner. So once again thank you so much man, you're awesome!
This game was incredibly under rated I loved every second of it

@@Buglin_Burger7878 well, but most people i encounter say this game isn't for them because of the chibi artstyle, which i can't understand actually.
I would love to see a WoFF 2 in the future!

i cant enjoy a games story with such a cringeworthy design decision. it simply pulls me out of the immersion immediately
They judge a book by its cover before even knowing the contents.. shows that they're really shallow in the inside
it's great to see someone talking about this game.
Not many people can do a 30 minute video on world of final fantasy
Congratulations
The game's story opened up and became so great in the second half of the game. The problem is the first half had almost no story at all. It was just like, "Here are these characters you barely know. Hopefully the fanservice will hold you over until about 60%". I enjoyed it though.

Oh great another person who is a FF15 hater
ff + pokemon + crazy plot twist = woff
Now reviewed with the Maxima expansion. The lore got darker with the secret ending.
I still think about how much I liked this game
WOFF is amazing, honestly, I enjoyed it more than 15 :)
Likewise!
pobbart13 same
i agree its my favorite ff game
Oh yeah, it's leaps and bounds ahead of 15!

Given how deep this lore dive was, I'm surprised you didn't mention the return of Lann (with TWO Summon Gloves!) in the Maxima Secret Ending.
I bought FFXV and started playing it before WoFF. Then I decided to try WoFF. Never again I touched FFXV. That's all I have to say.

Saving this for later because I'm at the end of this game, but dying to hear your commentary!
The best ff game recently released.
Agreed, I honestly feel like this game was better executed than FFXV, and that's saying something.
I didn't really like the game play to be honest, it felt a bit shallow, especially with the exploration of the world, as there wasn't much to do.

Edit: Let's start a podcast discussing purely final fantasy. There's gold to be mined there.
Great video Pez :D I've always loved the lore behind WoFF
You know what's another game that deserves a lot more love than it gets? FFX-2. The story is really deep; the theme is serious and meaningful, and it runs not only through the main quest but all the sidequests as well, and it even builds on some thematic elements that emerged from X's backstory. And then that stupid, _stupid_ so-called "good" ending undercut the entire thing. I'd love to see you do a video on that one.
Always love your lore videos. Zodiak what a great job. Keep up the great work.
It's so strange to watch a Pez analysis without him saying "It's Ardyn!!" Every five minutes. XDJokes aside, admittedly I haven't played the game but I do want to. It looks like loads of fun. (and it's really cute, not gonna lie)
¿the Lann and Reynn that Enna Kros takes back after the ending, are the same Lann and Reynn as before but without their powers, or are they a reflection of them in this universe created by her?
no, they are a different version of them. the real Lann and Reynn are still out of Grymoire somewhere.
Most people said that there weren't enough save points. I still don't get that.
How's it feel that even after 4 years this is like the only plot analysis of this game
I watched only the first ending. It was so cool. I wonder what happened to Lann afterward.
Hot damn, now I need to finish this!
grate video pez i have not had the chance to play this game yet but now i relay want to play it
I am really happy someone has covered the lore of WOFF. I loved the game I cried like a little baby but I loved it. I was a little confused by some things but you have cleared it all up for me! thank you so much for this video!
I really enjoyed WOFF but the game needs newgame+ or at least more save slots. No newgame+ and only a single save slot...zero replayability...
Raddenleggazz Leggazschmeggazz I agree, but I think the single save slot was done to facilitate cross-platform saves. I don't own a PSVita so it didn't matter to me, but it would have been hard to offer that feature if there were tons of save slots.
yeah, the only way to have a new game is to make a new psn account rofl awkward af, but great game besides that
@@wisemoon40 For what it's worth, Trails of Cold Steel 1 & 2 both have cross save capabilities and way more than 1 save slot.
Seeing Lightning smile really made me happy.
im about 45hrs in and only picked it up a week ago. loving it so far and cant wait to finish it and watch this video in full
What is the beginning song?
JerLikesG It's the theme of Nine Wood Hills
RoxasMeatloaf Thanks, was searching it for ages
JerLikesG No problem! One of my favorite tracks from the game so I knew instantly haha
Where'd you get some of this information?
Hey Pes are you streaming today?
Where was the name Roksanne mentioned?? I knew Enma Kros’ nand was an anagram or reversal of something, but I couldn’t figure it out. That is incredibly cool about Alexander the Great. Squeenix is brilliant with these references. I’m playing Maxima right now on my Switch. I love this game.
So in FFXIV, we had crossover events with Yokai and Garo; is that part of the extraverse?
"Story for Children" same Problem As Kingdom Hearts
I want to watch But I didn't finish the game yet T^T
Definitely finish it first, totally worth it!
Because it's your work ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
WHAT?? Sorry but I didn't play fallout4. TeeHee
....
I loved this game but kinda got made fun of whenever I stated the story and gameplay were deeper then they looked at first glance.
I love this game it's a great final fantasy tribute
2:15 how's that possible as the bahamut soldiers can't be imprisoned
A few minor mistakes I caught, nothing of it breaks the point you make but just to correct it:
1.) Brandelis is not actually the King of the Bahamut people.
Because they as younger kids did not have proper control over their more powerful mirages those were running amok and people blamed Reinn and Lann and gave them that nickname
A thing I am not sure is _wrong_ but at least debatable.
I'm pretty sure a carbuncle has been a boss in the past I don't know if that considered evil or not.
Are you going to update this since there's a new update? :) btw nice explanation.
Actually, what was Seraffie's deal? She seems to be comparable in power to Tamamohime (or at least able to match the powers and abilities of her re restricted form, which would include having multiple lives to trade with The Girl Who Forgot Her Name in order to resurrect Lann and Reynn) seeing as how she can apparently retroactively replace Tama for the entire game without changing anything else in the plot, but we get next to no backstory for her.
always loved this story and to hear more about it just makes it better and the end best dance ever.
BAAAARRRRRRTTTTZZZZZ!!!!!!
Sorry...where did you get all this info?!
Carbuncle made his debut in the FF series AS a villain, in Final Fantasy V as a boss ;)
I have the limited edition but have not played it yet. you get sephiroth an few dlc as well a picture book game case with it.
Enna Kros did not bring Lann and Reynn back as mirages. She made Mirages of Lann and Reynn. They are still stuck in another world
The only thing I didn't like it's the battle system (it was too slow). But yes overall this was a good game. Deserves a sequel.
Did you turn on ATB and set the speed to max?
+Zodiak Hunter I wasn't the one playing, didn't knew. Welp :P
lol, might be worth picking up again just to play it that way! :)
So were the FF characters you meet here different people then those from the original games, very similar but different pretty much like the FF characters In KH
Great video Pez!!!
Really underrated. I really enjoyed it. Hope we get another WoFF game. When is the Pez coming back to Eorzea? I'm just finishing up Heavensward. Stormblood looks fantastic.
wait xenogears was involved in WOFF, its a shame most people dont know about that series
We also got trolled into thinking we could Imprism him for permanent party use only to have him bust out and leave immediately after the fight lol
I've waited 1000s of years for this!
I'm sorry, but World of Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts both have pretty dark lore if you really pay attention.
You know... I've never heard a more apt description of me as a person as a whole than "well and truly a story junkie."
Man, you probably have played FF Brave Exvius. Absolute solid story from a remote spin-off.
ff 4 the after years explained that all the games with the crystal storyline are connected because a being created the crystals to keep an eye on said worlds
Hey Pes thank you so much for doing this video. At first i wasn't going to buy this game because I'm not a fan of chibi, but after seing how complex and awesome the history is, I bought it and I'm so happy I did! Such a fun and incredible game this is, my only regret is not buying it sooner. So once again thank you so much man, you're awesome!
would like to see what would have happened if they did what enna kros told them to do
reviewer: This is a children`s game.
Me: Lann basically dies in one timeline. How is that for a children`s game?
I still play this game XD
