You mentioned that it was confusing to have the FF8 music playing in the FF7 area. However, the prison is a reference to the jail in FF8, not the Mako Reactor. The Mako Reactor that comes after is connected to it, but a separate dungeon.
I'm a little over 40 hours in and loving this game so far! I've been spending some time doing extras (intervention quests/Mirage collecting) and I believe I have arrived at the final area but I'm not sick of the game in the least. Just as good as I hoped it would be, seems to suit me down to the ground.

Loving it so far. I always scream out in joy every time I see or hear something familiar, especially the arranged Uematsu pieces from Hamauzu and Co. The fact that you can change the battle music in the options is a godsend for someone like myself! Now to finish it before FF XV......wish me luck.
As someone who has only dabbled in the series, my most played record being reaching Barret's hometown in VII after 12 hours (tho I've played a few hours each in I, IV, Dissidia and XIII), I still found this game really fun and engaging, because it remembered me of a digimon game.
I picked up the game the day after Christmas. It only took me a week to get through the main story. I personally enjoyed it. The way the main three characters interact and react to the world is funny and I like how they make it seem like a very kiddy game but give us the big plot twist. I also love how towards the end it made Reyn and Lann seem like the bad guys. The story writers for this game are amazing and made everything fit together perfectly.

I played the demo and loved it. Then I bought it on the PS store because it was sold out. It's one of my favorite turned-based Jrpgs since Legend of dragoon. It's weird because the game is just relaxing. Good review by the way.

I agree with this. Watched the whole video. As a long time Final Fantasy fan, it hit all the right buttons for me and was a nice intro to FFXV, I'm so hyped and it's crazy to think it's been 10 years, I know XV has only been in development for what 4? I just can't wait.

i love the game but the demo was lame, would be better if they made a part of the story demo instead a "techdemo" cause the game is so much more and in my opinion the demo was boring
And yes, i have the cardridge version world of final fantasy maxima more content, more mirages, more tracks, dungeons, bosses, sub-quests but i am at the beginning just enter the final fantasy 1 town

I still love Final Fantasy. And to be honest, I'm hitting into the middle portion of the game at the moment. So far, I love it. The graphics is great and well done on the PS4 and for the Vita. Yet the minor difference I found out is that since the game for the vita has the English version audio, it did lack for the vita when they don't have the English audio for it, probably due to the space for it and which version you'll be getting. Overall, it's still sound great with the Japanese audio to make it up when playing it on the vita. I love it when you see the character from past games to make it in and finally get to hear them for the first time. As a gamer who still love the world of the Final Fantasy realm, I do agree it's great to have it at 8 out of 10. But it does need some minor adjustments here and there.
Made it to the end! I picked up this game on sale about a month or two ago for less than $10. Honestly, more than worth it. I’ve gotten 40 hours of fun out of this game, and I’d say I’ve only been an FF fan for about a year. It helps that, over the past year, I read up on the story for every main FF. Really helped me understand a lot of the Easter eggs in the game.
I'm a long time Final Fantasy fan although I mainly focused on the numbered games (except XI). I've recently watched more youtube and found your channel and I love your content. I had wondered about trying World of Final Fantasy before but the overly cute appearance didn't seem appealing to me. After watching your video I might try it after all. :)
I have yet to beat WoFF (only gotten to the train graveyard) but I can say that very few games have made me smile as much. It doesn't have that much to do with how enjoyable it is, although it is quite enjoyable (especially for one like myself who has been struggling against people trying to spread the idea that turn based battles and random encounters aren't viable/enjoyable anymore) but really it's about how much heart is in the game. It was made by people who obviously love Final Fantasy. I'm not sure if it will have lasting wide spread appeal, or if it will be totally forgotten once FFXV comes out later this month. But I for one hope that this isn't the last time Square attempts something like this.
My first play-though I did absolutely no side content, 100% story and intervene quests to get the True Ending. 43 hours. Only died twice. So unless you were cheating, or looked up S tier stacks, there is NO way you could have beat this game in 29 hours. Getting to chapter 21 by itself takes 25 hours minimum.
The PvP mode is much more in depth than single player battles as you use mirages in place of Lann and Reynn. Protip: Unstack to regain AP much faster. Phoenix Down works on the whole party.
Yeah I actaully really enjoy this game it reminds me of Final Fantasy X my favorite of the series. The mirage board is just like the sphere grid of some sort. Also the battle style is actually quite similar where I don't really give it much effort to pass pretty much everything. game is 9.5/10 for me! :D
Severely underrated game. There are things I wish were a little different but I'm not going to ding the game for what it's not but, rather, enjoy it for what it is. I also just kept my characters stacked for the entire game. There just never seemed to be a situation that required separation.

i like it that you said that 5 is the middle score, because it feels like 7 has become the middle score for most reviewers and anything below that is utter garbage and i havent finnished the game yet but i would still probably agree with the score
I'm still waiting for my copy of the game to arrive, I'm not surprised by your review though and I'm actually super glad that the game isn't really 100 hours as I might actually get it finished before XV now. I think in my play through I will use the champions a lot if only for the cutscenes. I think the champions are something I want in kingdom hearts. In that series the summons are all Disney but I think having the final fantasy characters as summons, using their actual attacks, would make me use summons a lot more. I love the chibi art style but I fear it deters as many people as it attracts. I can't wait to jump into the game, and to get the Sora dlc upon release

Probably the most in depth and accurate review for the game. Although a slightly bit too long, sometimes filled with information, which is not necessarily relevant, for the question, whether to get the game or not, which at times felt you were going off track. Can I just point out that the title says review. By definition that implies no spoilers. Literally one of the first rules of media and Literally review we teach 10 year olds. It makes your joke around 1:14 feel off. This is a fantastic retrospective though. But its by no means a review. Baffles me how common this misconception is, specifically in the realm of game journalism. That said great editing and script.
I've always had a soft spot for FF games, especially watching people speed run them. My wife isn't a big fan but loves World due to her addiction to Pokemon. She also loves the comedic writing in this game. When I first started playing I felt that the game was only going to be a Kingdom Hearts 3 tech demo. I was gladly surprised when it was a love letter to FF fans. 7/10 is a score I also would give this game. I would like it more if it wasn't for the padding after the twist scene. Especially when Toma pretty much tells you that you'll be fighting super mirages and they're pretty much just re skins of the stuff you've already seen. The game doesn't re invent the wheel, if you want that I suggest playing Bravely Default. But it is fun for what it is.
I got this on the switch, but I’m playing through bravely default 2. I may try it out. I wish it wasn’t $40 on Xbox though. I imagine this game would look fresh on the series x.
My only regret about this game was only the lackluster of no FF Prelude, FF Main Theme, and FF Victory Fanfare at all for the game titled WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY. As always this same composer who did FF13 missed the BIGGEST opportunity to put his remix/rearrangement of FF Main Theme on the ending credits screen after the dancing scene instead the silent non-noticeable BGM ever. I can forgive no FF Prelude or Victory Fanfare at all, but no FF Main Theme at the ending credits is not worthy to use FF name on it.
This game has a bunch of references to the final fantasy games the characters are from but I was kinda expecting Yuna and Tidus to recreate the laughing scene and did you notice that the game is purposely trying to get us to ship SquallXShelke and CelesXCloud among others also Tama told us to anticipate Sephiroth coming as an anti-Champion or should I say Flower Killer

I hate how they portrayed Rikku, MY FAVORITE FF character of all time. They had so many chances to reintroduce her into the main plot, but she was just some side character who didn't even travel with the twins for 2 seconds.

Actually, you got the thing about about the townsfolk of Nine Wood Hills vanishing wrong...but it would be a spoiler to mention exactly what or why. That said, Enna does explain it in the prologue, but still.

As someone who has played FF from the late 80s, I didn't know what to think about this. I was pretty turned off by the overly cute mini characters. Then after seeing Celes, Rydia, and Edgar I was squealing with excitement. IMO 4, 5, 6 and 9 were the best. I see FF 13 similarly to how some people see the Star Wars prequels. While I can enjoy Star Wars I-III, I still haven't finished FF 13, and had a hard time liking any of the characters. I have still pre-ordered 15, but I am trying not to get my hopes up. Still from what I have seen here, I might just end up enjoying this one more than 15. I will definitely have to pick it up soon.
the underground prison was from ff8 not ff7. The mako reactor was underneath the prison. Squall was there for the prison and sheik was there for the reactor.
7:28 i like ff7, wouldn't call myself a fan, but: npcs: shera, rufus, cornelio.....zack :( towns: cosmo canyon, rocket town (is that really the name? I can't remember a real name for it) and either ft condor or neibleheim (technically, the first isn't a town per say, the second is more of a shinra play, so not sure if that counts) harder then i thought just based on memory :P
The only thing I did not like about this review is that it was done by a man suggesting that they made this game for kids under 16 when it was targeted towards the adult woman

My biggest complaint is the amount of grinding needed to 100% the game. I’ve tried multiple times to complete the whole game, by which I mean the coliseum. I.. just get bored. Stupid completionist here.
If I play this game, it will be my 2nd final fantasy game I've ever play (first was FFX-2). But there's so much nostalgia in this game isn't there a quick way to at least understand some references from the game ?
I think a lot of the references are quite subtle. They aren't really positioned as something that would detract you from enjoying the experience, and if anything the might make you enjoy the original games a bit more when you play then (if you intend to!) xD

On ps4 new game plus, change into characters, you can have 12 mirages, more x dungeons, enna crow is a boss, you can fish with final fantasy xv s noktus and catch laviaton, more intervention quests and a secred ending

Can I just point out that the title says review. By definition that implies no spoilers. Literally one of the first rules of media and Literally review we teach 10 year olds. It makes your joke around 1:14 feel off. This is a fantastic retrospective though. But its by no means a review. Baffles me how common this misconception is, specifically in the realm of game journalism.
That said great editing and script.
I've always had a soft spot for FF games, especially watching people speed run them. My wife isn't a big fan but loves World due to her addiction to Pokemon. She also loves the comedic writing in this game. When I first started playing I felt that the game was only going to be a Kingdom Hearts 3 tech demo. I was gladly surprised when it was a love letter to FF fans. 7/10 is a score I also would give this game. I would like it more if it wasn't for the padding after the twist scene. Especially when Toma pretty much tells you that you'll be fighting super mirages and they're pretty much just re skins of the stuff you've already seen. The game doesn't re invent the wheel, if you want that I suggest playing Bravely Default. But it is fun for what it is.
I got this on the switch, but I’m playing through bravely default 2. I may try it out. I wish it wasn’t $40 on Xbox though. I imagine this game would look fresh on the series x.
I will get this game after I'm finish with Final Fantasy XV. That's the only reason I haven't picked it up

Surprisingly deep mechanics. If only it wasn't mind-numbingly easy.
Platinum took me like about 80 hrs. it can be done in 60 i believe
completed the story in 40 hrs.

My only regret about this game was only the lackluster of no FF Prelude, FF Main Theme, and FF Victory Fanfare at all for the game titled WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY.
As always this same composer who did FF13 missed the BIGGEST opportunity to put his remix/rearrangement of FF Main Theme on the ending credits screen after the dancing scene instead the silent non-noticeable BGM ever.
I can forgive no FF Prelude or Victory Fanfare at all, but no FF Main Theme at the ending credits is not worthy to use FF name on it.
This game has a bunch of references to the final fantasy games the characters are from but I was kinda expecting Yuna and Tidus to recreate the laughing scene and did you notice that the game is purposely trying to get us to ship SquallXShelke and CelesXCloud among others also Tama told us to anticipate Sephiroth coming as an anti-Champion or should I say Flower Killer
Stuck around till the end like a champ! As for me, I am actually very curious about this game. Guess I will give it a buy after that OTHER Final Fantasy comes around (and I'm still missing a console to play it on). Thing is, they presented this game as a Final Fantasy for newcomers, but it seems to be nothing but fan service. Battle system seems cool, though.

I hate how they portrayed Rikku, MY FAVORITE FF character of all time. They had so many chances to reintroduce her into the main plot, but she was just some side character who didn't even travel with the twins for 2 seconds.
Yea, I was pretty disappointed to. They kind of redeemed her a little with the Intervention missions, but her role was pretty throwaway imo and I expected more. ~Darryl
Apart from 5, World Of Final Fantasy was actually my first final Fantasy game and I really enjoyed it.

Actually, you got the thing about about the townsfolk of Nine Wood Hills vanishing wrong...but it would be a spoiler to mention exactly what or why. That said, Enna does explain it in the prologue, but still.

Enna tells you exactly what happened to the townsfolk at the start (in front of the Gate), and it wasn't what you said. ._.
What Enna says is irrelevant though. I'm referencing what Lann and Reynn believe is the case, before anything else happens. I'm sorry if that isn't clear in my wording.
As someone who has played FF from the late 80s, I didn't know what to think about this. I was pretty turned off by the overly cute mini characters.
Then after seeing Celes, Rydia, and Edgar I was squealing with excitement. IMO 4, 5, 6 and 9 were the best. I see FF 13 similarly to how some people see the Star Wars prequels. While I can enjoy Star Wars I-III, I still haven't finished FF 13, and had a hard time liking any of the characters.
I have still pre-ordered 15, but I am trying not to get my hopes up. Still from what I have seen here, I might just end up enjoying this one more than 15. I will definitely have to pick it up soon.
the underground prison was from ff8 not ff7. The mako reactor was underneath the prison. Squall was there for the prison and sheik was there for the reactor.
David Deans yes, but we just thought as they were in the reactor, an FF7 song would've been more appropriate. Just personal preference.

towns: cosmo canyon, rocket town (is that really the name? I can't remember a real name for it) and either ft condor or neibleheim (technically, the first isn't a town per say, the second is more of a shinra play, so not sure if that counts)

The only thing I did not like about this review is that it was done by a man suggesting that they made this game for kids under 16 when it was targeted towards the adult woman

I have this game a few years now. I like it but never finished it. it felt like pokemon game traped in FF game. Im not insulting the game by any means. I think its time i finish FFW thanks for your review.
My biggest complaint is the amount of grinding needed to 100% the game. I’ve tried multiple times to complete the whole game, by which I mean the coliseum. I.. just get bored. Stupid completionist here.
If I play this game, it will be my 2nd final fantasy game I've ever play (first was FFX-2). But there's so much nostalgia in this game isn't there a quick way to at least understand some references from the game ?
I think a lot of the references are quite subtle. They aren't really positioned as something that would detract you from enjoying the experience, and if anything the might make you enjoy the original games a bit more when you play then (if you intend to!) xD

How about...... maxima (Nintendo switch) and as an update payed update to be exzactly. On ps4 new game plus, change into characters, you can have 12 mirages, more x dungeons, enna crow is a boss, you can fish with final fantasy xv s noktus and catch laviaton, more intervention quests and a secred ending
