Ctrl+D works better for making shape repeats than ctrl+C/ctrl+D. You can also drag the shapes around while holding ctrl+d and hit the space bar to place them.
Enlightening! Thanks. I don't know that I have the patience to try this but it is so cool to understand. I had to laugh when you referenced hoarding. I'm appalled and the number of fonts I have collected in a short time
This is a basic introduction to creating fonts, but there many other factors to consider and options to include, for example tracking, alternates, etc. I wouldn’t really call it a masterclass, but a brief insight into the process of creating a font. If you have no clue about the topic.
That's a good point - I was thinking more in terms of overall concepts and the mechanics of actually making a font. I do agree that there are a lot of nuances (I didn't want to make a 2 hour video that no one would watch).
@@craftystax I think it is a good introduction and that it gives someone a chance to “dip their toes in the water” that’s the ocean of front designing. I know people with not much more knowledge than you presented, who include fonts in their Etsy offerings. I’m sure that your video gives many people just what they are looking for and they don’t want to do anything complex.
I just used Inkscape and made them an SVG file. The size doesn't seem to matter to Glyphter (I did not save all the letters the same size but Glyphter made them all fit inside the glyph box).
Those are quite tricky. You can trace them in Inkscape (there's a "color" option in the trace bitmap feature) but there are some pitfalls. I think you have inspired me to do a video about that pesky color svg option.
Thank you for enlighting. i have 2 problems plz assist. 1st is some letters hapens to appear all black. 2nd problem is the space between the letters are so big. thank you
Thanks so much! I do have a question.. is it ok to put all the letters in one file, especially for svg or tiff files? Or is it better to have each letter in their own file?
You can certainly sell a bundle of individual letters (like each letter or number is their own SVG or PNG file) - that is helpful sometimes if someone wants to make a monogram design. Otherwise, you would create a TTF file (a font file) and then clicking the "A" would create whatever you put in your A glyph. Hope that helps!
How do we make the fonts for the lowercase smaller than the upper case? I tried uploading and even if the SVG file is smaller sized than the that for the uppercase, the resulting font produced for the lowercase is as big as the upper case. Is there a way to fix this somehow? Thank you in advance for your answer
Yes that is a great question. In Glyphter, click on your individual letter and then click the edit button (it is a pencil icon in the the lower right). Then click the actual image on the left side, and then click the "negative" button (a minus sign). This will shrink whatever you selected a bit. So you can tappity tap that minus button and shrink down whatever the individual glyph is.
Generally you would want to create the fonts as black and then whatever program you are using (like MS Word, Power Point, etc. you could change the color of the font in that program).
I have fonts but do not know how to get them on Etsy exactly. I did not see that part in the video for which you complete the actual process of uploading it. Would you mind providing me some insight because I am stuck.
Hey there - when you are listing a file on Etsy, you have a choice to select a physical product or a digital product. Select the digital product option. Then you will be asked to upload a zip file (and that zip file should contain your font and any other applicable files). Hope that helps!
Generally speaking, you don't need to - when you select a font (like in Word for example), you can change the color of the font to whatever color you would like. So you normally just make the font black and then whatever program you are using (Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.) you would just change the color then.
Very easy to understand and perfect for who's just starting with designing font as you show free softwares!👏

This was totally awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. I have been trying to figure out how to do that😊Much appreciated

What exactly were you trying to accomplish with this comment? Where’s your video about this subject?
Another brilliant video
thank you very much for these helpful info
This is brilliant. Thank you! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Fantastic video! Thank you for teaching this.
Very cool
Thank you sooooo much for this video. I have been wanting to create my own font but didn't know how THANK YOU THANK YOU
you read my mind i have been thinking of doing my own font thank you great video
what about kerning and leading?
Thank you!
Very nice video! What are the dimensions of the grid you used to make the separated SVG files?
I just used Inkscape and made them an SVG file. The size doesn't seem to matter to Glyphter (I did not save all the letters the same size but Glyphter made them all fit inside the glyph box).
@@craftystax I also had same doubt about equal dimension of font. so it takes SVG uniform automatically.thank you.
Awesome. How do you make multiple color svg files? I've been looking for this everywhere

I am new learner.interesting.As a biggener ,can u plz make video how can load in Etsy ??
so how to you make the lower case letters so you can package both upper case and lower case in one file?

Can the fonts be colored or just black and white

Puede hacer un vídeo de cómo preparar los archivos y como subirlos para ponerlos en venta ?

Fontographer and Fontlab
Yes, FontLab!
When I upload the svg to Glyphter, the glyph is just a grey blob. What am I doing incorrectly? Does the svg glyph need to be a specific size?
I don't know (I can't see your SVG file) - how did you make the SVG file? Can you open your SVG file in Inkscape and make sure that it is legitmate?
@@craftystax Thank you for responding. Inkscape file.
But u won't be able to sign your font a signature??? Correct? It be the website not the designer

@@craftystax Ah gotcha. Good explanation. The zip part was where I was stuck. Didn't know Etsy let you upload zip files so this helps. *hugs*

Sir can we add color to the TTF font,?
