    we had a pug for over a dozen years. i never had a dog that was so in tuned with our emotions. you had a bad day, he knew. you wanted to play, he'll launch into play. but the compacted spine did lead to walking and bladder issues in his late years. he is still missed.

    My pug is a very warm-hearted, friendly dog. When she meets a person, it will take about 5 minutes to get used to them. She has never bit anyone in her entire life, but we can't teach her any tricks other than "sit". I give this dog a 10/10.

      THANK YOU for seeing through the veil of supposed "cuteness" we have somehow indoctrinated into our culture, as is even more evident to me than ever before watching this video. at least the people giving the commentary were not credentialed in any form where i would expect one to know better than to fully condone this type of dog's sheer existence. this is not meant to be inflammatory to the bazillion people who will watch this because (duh) they love pugs. if anything, just consider the cost in quality of life your best friend will have to pay because you wanted an animal that had a particular "cute" physical trait. really. just think about what that means. i also give credit to AP for at least mentioning a good amount of the major health issues that come with owning a pug, however they left me with an...uncomfortable(?) feeling with the light-hearted, comical (quick cut shot to the pug's face looking surprised!), responses given after each health concern was mentioned. & in the summary of the pug as a whole, i was left with the impression that somehow genetically allowing the contortion of a dog's spine to form an ideal "two FULL curls", or that "some breathing problems" because the dog HAS NO MUZZLE WHATSOEVER were alright (assuming one doesn't "squeeze too hard while petting"). i am sorry to anyone who disagrees. i am sorry for the dogs.

      Roastie Toaster not true, if a pug comes from an fci dog kennel it’s most likely to be healthy. my pug only has a bit of breathing problems when it’s really hot. beside this he’s a really happy and cheerful. and in spite of what is the common opinion, that pugs are extremely lazy and sleep all day, they love walks and physical activity. the point is the owners tend to overfeed them and then they get fat, their joints get destroyed and they have no energy to play.

He likes walks, he hasn’t had any problems with breathing or his eyes. He has ear infections sometimes, which are easily dealt with. He’s super active and loves to run.

Happy pug mom for 12 years! And if you walk them on a harness, feed them right and take them to their regulat vet checkups, they are one of the healthiest breeds. Only downside is the shedding but they dont cause any allergies so we are good!

    Looked up this video with my 7 year old who mentioned she may want a pug. We were both horrified they were intentionally bred to not be able to breath, have their eyeballs pop out and be susceptible to heat stroke and a slew of other health issues so they would look "cute" for humans. Horrifying. smh

    • @clevernickname8095
      @clevernickname8095 9 лет назад

      I have two male pugs both from rescues. One of them, Baby, (he was called Baby Huey but we just abbreviated it) has a mushed in face like the ones you see here and the other, Sammy, has more of a snout. If you go to a rescue like I did you can find one with more of a snout or maybe even a mix. If you want a puppy or can't find a pug rescue, then be VERY careful which breeder you pick. Of coarse, that goes with any dog, but especially with pugs. Make sure the breeder is certified and experienced, has the breeding dogs in good condition, clean breeding area, and the puppies are up to date on shots and anything medical. That makes the health problems minimum. The wrinkles aren't much to handle. As long as you clean them every couple of days, don't go on any extreme walks and bring a collapsible bowl with water when you go for a longer walk (or in the summer. Never go on any huge walks during the summer and make sure to bring plenty of water) they shouldn't get heat stroke. As for the eye thing, don't worry about it at all. Make sure to get a harness instead of a collar and don't pull the wrinkles too much will cleaning. Dogs aren't plushies, so don't squeeze them like they are one. If you catch you or someone else doing so, stop them immediately. This doesn't mean you can't hug them, but I read an article saying dogs are uncomfortable in hugs. If toy want to hug that adorable little face, make sure it's not too tight or long. A pug should win the heart of any 7 year old. They are the greatest companions in the world. I hope this somewhat helped and made things a bit less horrifying for you and your daughter :)

      You could get a “puggle”, which is a pug that’s bred with a beagle. They have the same coloring as pugs, but have snouts as opposed to the mushed faces that a typical pug would have.

    There are a lot of silly comments on here, and as a Pug breeder for going on 40 years, I feel like I need to address them,
    Pugs, like all dogs, can have health issues. The whole Eye-popping thing though is not entirely true. they do not just "Pop" out for no good reason, and would take considerable force or a unique birth defect/genetic trait to do so. Most breeders would work overly large eyes out of their blood line fast, if not never have the problem to begin with. The most dangerous thing for a pug's eyes is actually it's fifth claw or Du-claw. if it is not removed shortly after birth, it will remain and can cause severe eye damage later in life via accidental scratches.
    Breathing issues again actually fall into birth defect zone. A properly bred line will NOT suffer from issues that would EVER require surgery. They of course do not handle high heat well, but should never be exposed to it for long periods anyway. They are hose pets, not outside dogs.
    As for another user that posted about Hygiene and yeast infections, it's the food and treats you are feeding. Over the past 40 years, we have learned a lot about pugs and how touchy their diets are. Too much sugar and fatty foods/low quality kibble can easily cause them to get yeast infections very frequently as crystals will form rapidly.
    Pugs are wonderful family pets, and truly do not take any extra care or attention to maintain. The wrinkles are easily cleaned with a wash rag when you give the a bath. No real extra work required. If you want to keep them dry, Baking soda is the best bet. A bit of baking soda on a dry rag, and rub it in the wrinkle. it will help keep it dry and germ free, and wont hurt the dog. (Re-enact Scarface if you must =p )
    I hope a few comments from people with less experience owning pugs, does not affect the odds of you making your own personal experiences with the little charmers. =)
