- A Summer Saturday at Peterborough with freight sector Class 47's on Great Yarmouth workings, with other 47's on parcel workings, Class 37's and Class 31's on engineers trains, 60094 on Redlands, some stabled Class 56's, a brief glimpse of a Class 90 propelling Mk4's south, plus a few HST's and 91's - watch out for a very unusual Class 91 propelling wrong way round! Filmed on 3rd July 1993.
What a selection enjoyed watching this one!
Quality video cheers for sharing.
Another classic 👏🏻
Thanks 👍
Excellent stuff Darren. Nice to see so many 47's, 31's and 37's in regular use in these video's. That was quite rare sight to see that 91, blunt end facing north.
Excellent 20 mins of Archive footage Darren. Great mixture of loco's on this one and to see a 91 with its blunt end showing is a rare one. Many thanks Darren.
Cheers Tony. No worries, and it was good to say 'Hi' at the NVR - keep your eye out for your appearance in the latter parts of my NVR movies :-)
Thanks Steve. That's a pretty good job already that lets you watch these movies I reckon - glad to have made it even more enjoyable though.
thankyou for uploading this superb video, really brought back memories.
Superb video - very enjoyable!
Thanks very much, glad it brought back some memories for you.
Amazing how Peterborough has changed. Lovely footage
Certainly changed a bit, not on the scale of Reading for example, but platform and traction wise it has. Thanks very much for watching and commenting.
Thank you very much.
Great vid Daz, thanks for your info this morning, catch ya sometime over the weekend.
Tony.
Marvellous stuff - wonderful archive footage and some real gems with those loco hauled parcel trains - indeed final shot of the 91 rare indeed I've seen blunt end 91s but never a blunt end one on the south end reverse formation - few years back there was report of a 225 set running conventionally but with 91s on both ends due to a DVT fault (91 nose end to DVT) but I never got to see it
Great video mate!, brings back memories
Thanks Hayden. I've still got plenty more footage from Peterborough, and there's a couple in particular that each heavily feature either Class 31's or Class 47's in action. Very rare indeed to see a 91 with it's blunt end at the north.
great video! Unlike current liveries, the 91 in its original inter city colours looks really smart.
That's good that you got to see some of these locos in regular use before they were withdrawn or relegated to lesser duties - it's a lot harder these days to track down such traction for sure.
Thanks Steve. This was a pretty good spell indeed, especially for a Saturday, and was probably only about a 3 hour spell there from memory.
Yes, i'm glad I've got this to look back on - and that others can be reminded or how things used to be, or maybe what they missed out on if they're younger viewers of course.
Thanks. Summer Saturdays in the 1980's and 1990's were great on many lines of course, with all sorts of locos on Mk1's and Mk2's to seaside resorts in particular. If only we could some GBRf 20's to Skeggy now, or DRS 37's on North Wales extras.......
Thanks Ian. Certainly a few of those workings have gone now, or if they survive it's with less exotic traction! That 91 pushing south nose first was something I've not seen since - a few blunt end workings, and some reverse formations, but not that.
18:31 - Unusual to see a 91 the wrong way round! :D
The 91 blunt north was quite common around this time, with air con problems in the summer they would turn them to utilise other cab to maximise the fleet usage. Plenty of old cranks on the platform there, desperate Dave for one.
Where indeed. Of course the 91's, HST's, and 158's still remain, but there's not many times you can see a 56 or 37 there now - mainly just the NVR convoys!
Thanks Keith. Yes, i'd forgotten about 'The Scotsman' named Class 91 with its huge nameplates. Certainly the second generation DMU's are still about, and of course the HST's in particular are still going strong.
Bloody awsum! NB 47's on passenger! They were the days! But not the same as a NB Peak though!
Nice bit of VALENTA THRASH from 43106
Peterborough just 20 years ago. Where did they all go?
Yes, Valenta thrash indeed - these were the days, before the MTU's appeared!
A stack of VHS tapes I've got filled with footage I filmed at the time. Yes, there's more - hours and hours of footage still to come!
Where do u keep getting these gems of history from keep it up, tell us theres more?!
My god 3rd July 1993 I was born 2 months and 2nd date
What livery is the 37 around the 6:00 mark?
I believe it was called 'Civil Link' and was used on loco's and rolling stock (wagons mainly) that were under the civil engineering/permanent way department(s)

Thank you very much!
