- Part 1 of a June 1988 Summer's evening visit to Peterborough station with plenty of variety on offer, including Class 31's, 37's, and 47's on various freight and parcel workings, plus some passenger offerings from InterCity HST's, Provincial Sector Class 150 and 156's, and Network South East Class 317's and 312's.
Part 2 will follow in a couple of days
Something I like so much about the hobby is that there is always something to learn. even for old hand like myself. Crevens in express Parcels, speed-link formations and class 312 on the stoppers from KX. The quality was good considering the equipment in use. Anyway for me it was more about the wide and varied content. Thank you very much.
Just noticed that the middle of the 3 units at 08:35 has the old West Yorkshire Metro Train logo on it. Been a long time since i've seen that. Good video as always.
Really nice. This is my favourite era, and I love the variety of different classes plus the express parcels units. Nice.
Miss the days where you’d hear the 125s engine whirring when coming up to the platform. Then just sitting there humming on the platform. Miss the sights, sounds and above all comfort of the 125 along the eastcoast route💔
Yes, it's not the same these days, but at least we still have a handful of Class 91s for now. The GWR Castle HSTs haven't much longer left, and then the Scotrail Inter7City HSTs will be after those, and then it really is the end of an era.
Excellent video Darren. It's interesting to see all the different freight wagon/tank types as well as the traction. Lovely shots,
Wow Darren - superb, just superb such variety and yet how sad it is on how things have changed so much - lovely sounds of idling diesels in the background, great sounds from the DMUs and Valenta HSTs - recall the HST drivers blasting out of platform 2 and lesser extent platform 4 and waiting punters covering their ears - the multi consist freights do you know if they were Speedlink trains? Noticed the 08 shunter and the post/parcel platform trollies and platform tractor
Do keep posting
Nice to see 47283 prior to naming 'Johnnie Walker' 2 months later. She had just been given an overhaul and repaint at the 'Plant' in June.
Many thanks Ian. These were the days indeed, sadly lost now. They were Speedlink indeed, and even a Network Coal working in Part 2. Peterborough was a true Royal Mail hub back then with trollies everywhere and plenty of parcel workings, and the odd TPO as you'll see.
Thank you. Yes, the Class 312's did the odd peak hour service for a fairly short period in this era. The Speedlink working were always good value for wagons and loco variety - such a shame it didn't last long into the 90's.
Good spot there! Yes, a cascaded unit at the time I would imagine as many DMU's found parcel use, but all too short lived in the end. Thanks very much.
Another Peterborough classic Daz, love the old boro vids. More Deltics please if you have any in this region.
Thank you. I wish mine went back a bit further to the late 1970's and early 1980's, and that I had continued videoing from the late 1990's onwards too.
Super Super Super Super Super Duper lovely brilliant magnificent world first and top class. Absoloutely super Duperly love it.
Great video Darren wish I had my camcorder during the 1980's / 90's
Great video again mate! :D
Cheers Tony. No Deltics in the era of this old video camera i'm afraid, just the odd one at preserved events. If only I had a video in the late 70's and start of the 80's......... Winter project of starting to scan my old photos from 1970's and 1980's might throw up some gems though!
How delightful! No Branson and not a bloody container in sight.
Thanks very much, much appreciated.
Good video! Nice to see no stupid different coloured doors unlike the PC lunacy of today!
Thank you.
114s having BG attached. Wowsas
Thanks very much.
Brilliant !
mrdeltic15 you are amazing!!!
Good video
Thanks very much, but i'm sure there are other equally as good(and better)on RUclips as well, but I really appreciate that you enjoy mine so much.
Thanks very much :-) The 'customer' is always right, so I won't disagree with you! lol
Lovely before Peterborough was turned into an overgrown garden.
It's certainly a bit different these days with those extra platforms!
An enthusiast who is very enthusiastic maybe? And I don't know how old they are either, so maybe the language could be a bit offensive........? Thanks.
