One of Chaka’s very favorite movies is Black Orpheus. We have watched that together a few times over the decades. The love, the innocence, the Bossa Nova music, the dancing on the hillsides, the free spirits, a simple unpretentious life at one with Mother Nature plants & animals co-habitating ….just beautiful
I'm so relieved to hear her say she listens to Hiatus Kaiyote. I felt alone in my appreciation for music from another country. The UK in particular. I listened to "Red Room" and "Get Sun" and their lead vocalist Nai Palm (napalm?) reminds me of Corinne Bailey Rae or even Hil St. Soul's Hilary Mwelwa. I like Gregory Peck in "The Big Country", and Bette Davis is 'hard'. Davis' Mildred Rogers role in "Of Human Bondage" is riveting and unforgettable. Chaka Khan explains the technical aspect of the music she made with Arif Mardin so interesting. Dr.Khan, Dr. Khan. She made me laugh when she said "I'm not a doctor 'cause I have no patients!". She is a 'Force of Nature", and truly unique. Chaka Khan is at the opposite spectrum from Donna Summer. I love Donna Summer 'The Queen of Disco' because of her image. And Donna Summer was flawless.
