I was on the edge of my chair, waiting to see who you would say the first big clan in Rust was. Man. I was over here clapping when you said CML. Not because I liked them, but because it was such a throwback. I remember those days, seeing their huge compounds, and later when they turned into DML. Then you hit me with Dirt McGirt. Man, the raid cams from those days... Shout out to Phaedo. Wherever Phaedo is, I hope he is going well. Vertiigo and Rizza raid cams were goated. The real Main scene, on Main servers before it was changed over to the clan scene and clan servers focusing solely on clans and nothing else. haha. I remember my group fought against Destiny at one point. Was a wild time. I swear, BCHILLZ! was better than just about any player with an AK back then. Also, rip Combattags. TGB still the most goated clan of all time in my opinion. TGB General and the TGB Clan, Sidewinder and FEAR, .COM, and SIN were some of the most insane clans to watch as Rust evolved. The AU side was hands down the best part of the competitive scene. The irl scenes actually worked very well in this video.
Just seeing old rust gameplay brings back so many memories and emotions, rust was the game that got me into PC gaming and was one of the first games I truly fell in love with. It really makes me happy that there’s someone documenting the history of rust and the clan culture within it.
As a person with 7k+ hours on rust and played in the main clan scene quite a lot in the old days. So many memories playing with a lot of these people that you put into an amazing summary of the history of the clans. All these people and years talking and playing with all these people truly makes me nostalgic to look back on this. Cant wait for the next part of this series.

Crazy to think it would get this far, if you look at the comments from Gary back then he had doubts. But he made it! This game has had more of an impact then we could of ever imagined.
I cant describe how much joy it brings me to finally see this concept be attempted. The rust main scene never got the recognition it deserved content wise. You did an amazing job with this video jack, glad to see you kept up the content snowball my friend!

This comment really hits me man, I've craved to do this since I started, I think after all my experiences it was worth the wait. Appreciate you support!
hey jack. Wanted to stop for a moment and say thank you for the community. The fun i enjoyed while playing with people i had recruited from your discord, competition with other clans with the leaderboard. Always loved the Villa and it holds a special place in my heart. Running a 32 man was a highlight of my gaming career
Hey zeph, This comment really means a lot to me. I really pride myself on giving you guys as much value as I can, because you have done so much for me beyond the game over the years. I'm glad I was able to have a positive impact on your gaming experience man, I hope to see you again in the future. Thanks for making it all happen.
I have over 7000 hours and have had the game since early 2015. I have seen the clan scene change over the years and I can easily say it is the most fun aspect of Rust. There is no feeling like pummeling a toxic cheater groups base with 2000 rockets or successfully defending a 5v30 raid. It's great to see a content creator finally addressing the clan scenes very rich (and very ignored) history.
Thanks for the feedback man! Blows me away that this hasn't been talked about previously. I'm happy to do justice in telling the story, expect some more great topics around this niche.
Damn, that hit the nostalgia bone just right. Rust was the first game I had ever purchased on my Steam account, and I bought a few weeks after it came out (for less than 7 bucks!). 2000 hours later, I haven't thoroughly played it in years, mainly due to having no time, but also cause my PC simply can't run it anymore. I remember once in 2016 when a big clan invited the whole server for a raid, and I dragged along. They kitted everyone up, gave a speech and we marched together along gunfire and war cries. These memories live fondly in the back of my head now.
You probably wont remember me but I used to play in DML with you, crazy to randomly see this video and remember how much i used to grind Rust and all the people I ran with.
@@totot2707 Your name does sound familiar, I think we did run it up on mains. It is kinda crazy to think about on all those late nights and weekends on Rust lmao. Good to see you're alright.

Jesus, this came up in recommended and made me remember all the fun i had back in the day in F1K. Still remember how hilarious and entertaining those meetings were. Great job Jack, video is amazing and cant wait for the next.
I know you guys disbanded but surely you can all get the band back together for a wipe sometime for old times sake. Me and my friend still talk about when you guys ruled on rustralasia in 2018. With all the new updates you guys would destroy even more these days.
@@ElkayLiveMost of our main members including myself have moved on started families and have more responsibilities now unfortunately. Plus we are all probably washed up now 😂
Damn, this video is amazing. Watching you talk over this and being able to witness a ton of these events live really caught me by surprise. I need some more history about Zzz though!
Wow, this is crazy seeing a video like this after so long being an officer in FEAR, kinda sad Blackout didn't get a shoutout as he was the Leader of FEAR for years, but stoped playing for the few months during this period on Rustralasia, amazing video, gave me flashbacks of the 18 hours a day grinding we did.
7:05 As a leader of [BP+] since 2015 - I must admit you did a great research. Thanks for mentioning us! It was long time ago and yes, our greatest enemies were all the others mentioned from the European servers. If you want to become Rust historian we might have some stories to share from that times. :)
Thanks man Nova is 100% correct, the drama only gets better, needed this first part to set the stakes for people who play or don't play Rust to understand.
@JackShephardTV totally understandable, I got rust in November of 2022 and don't know all that much about its past. This video was extremely interesting to watch.
The reason why CML went downhill was because big pothead was telling DMG when we were coming to raid them and Philly Thor was still destroying their base every week😅😅😅
@@JackShephardTVEnjoying, and really appreciate answers to really simple questions I had. Rust players are not keen to answer questions. (Only been solo, friends won't touch it.😅)
Appreciate you man, were playing this wipe on Rusty Moose Main Monthly if you'd want to join. "inkly is a dumb ** and doesn't know anything" - dot kinn I miss dirtmcgirt, my leader 🥺 Many people probably see nickly as a bad person but really he wanted everyone to have fun and I hated how other groups treated me and their other members. Good example is maxx it was horrible in dmg like really fucking bad. He code raided nK 4 times but I hope he had fun while with us. Kinda wild I was there for all of this even the legacy rust.
Yeah the scene really fucked with Max, there's some videos of a few OG's mocking him. Was not very nice lol, probably one of the worst things I've seen for this specific era. Glad you enjoyed this part, hope I did Nickly justice.
Honestly i love history documentaries overall but to see someone make a documentary of the history of the rust main scene is so sick. Especially having followed quite a bit of the drama from youtube videos since 2015 and having played main itself in 2020. Cant wait to watch this in some years and just thinking of the "good old times" when there was no responsibilities in life except waking up to school and after that getting on rust to grind. Havent even watched the video but already know its gonna be good! Thank you for putting in the effort and keep making these types of rust videos as they lowkey hit home having quit a few years ago and knowing i'll probably never have time to properly play rust or a game like it again. (sorry for corny ass comment)
Hey man you speak truth, Some people might think what we did was not a good investment of time, but Rust was a big part of lives. We learned a lot beyond the game. I'm happy you got to experience it. When I made this project, I truly wanted to give back to the people who invested in our community, thanks for joining me on the journey!
I've only got about 2k hours and played since 2021, but I've talked to so many OGs from a decade ago, and the evolution is so unbelievably full compared to other titles from the same time period as Final Fantasy 14. I had the "pleasure" of playing console Rust as my entry to the game, and switched to PC about 200 hours into console, which gave me a real crash course in how Rust was prior to minis, scrappies, anything on the water, electricity, or half of the monuments.
I left rust 2 years ago but watching so many old familiar names I remember someone well who taught me the ak spray in 2017 and it was the Haddock! He had a mate who was super talented as well called tawhaki I can’t remember if i am spelling it correct but it definitely rings up the old memories of dedicating so much time to combattags back then!
I don't normally watch youtubers with low subscribers but after enjoying a few of your videos, I can honestly say that your channel provides me with a ton of entertainment. Keep making vids brotha, they are really enjoyable
I have 8.2k hours on Rust, and I remember so many of these events, me and my 5 man mained Rustopia back in the day, good times. In 2018 I was apart of a clan called Toxic Clan on Rustified main, we did well for a few wipes but with 20 people in our clan, there was alot of corruption and after that we pretty much disbanded lol, anyways great video man!
So nice of you to recognize us :-), good video, good times! There was so much more to the european rustafied times tho, it was wild and complicated :D Also, there was never such a thing as "TOXICBP+" but i suppose its just a typo ^^ Best regards to all the nice clans we played with and aginast, good memories ;D
so many memories, i remember ghosting cml's farm/slave base and getting what seemed like infinite loot out of it when the chopper update came out, just flew over and jumped on the roof
Bro, this is crazy. I was a DML / DOT / F1K / Cloud member, so this is crazy to see. I even joined shepards villa and talked with you Jack a lot, My name was Puppy. this is INSANE!
I have been following Rust since it's very early days but I never had paid any attention to the Clans and just took them as granted from the Bf, Cod & Planetside scene but this is a whole new outlook into the way the Meta changed for this game. I found it very hard to get into rust due to various issues (be it irl or just being a Hoarder with OCD) but it has always fascinated me how the devs made a game entirely run by the players where new stories sprout every day let alone wipes. It's kinda like playing with civilization except we get to see it, study it and enjoy it at the same time
The work paid off man, finished product is fucking beautiful! Crazy to see what was loose concepts and screenshots I saw outside looking in turned into a full form video like this!
Appreciate your support man, your comment on steam from way back then when I wasn't here meant so much and kept me going, makes me so happy to make you proud man.
After watching this whole video, it’s really unlocked some of my 12 year old memories and brought them back. I forgot how much of a noob I used to be and seeing all of this just helps me get s bigger picture of what I was apart and still am.
Heated! I remember you, hope life has been awesome for you man. We always had a bit of drama, but happy to end our story on a good way. Thanks for your support!
Great vid. Love ur content. As a generally new player, (1k hours), it’s so interesting to learn the complex history of the game and it’s community and how it has evolved.
Loved the game as a kid, all these songs are from games I've played myself. Happy to get you emotional man, it's the little things like music that really set the scene.
Just want to point out as a former CML member and later and current [ABC] member that many people fail to mention the DMGs group and many of the players breaking off from it were cheaters. I realize it’s been a while but as a player who fought DMG cheaters on multiple occasions I feel like it is a relevant point.
@@nick9602 I'm not proud of any of that. I'm not proud of the ego I developed when playing this game and being so good at it. Appreciate the kind words; but just remember that you're missing out on nothing. Playing and succeeding in Rust can develop habits of resistance and resilience though, something I took forward into the corporate world when I turned 18 in 2018. A lot of people don't do the same though, they develop addiction. Nevertheless, some of the people I met while playing have been some of the most inspiring, loyal and amazing people I've ever met in my life, and changed me forever. I will forever be grateful. Thanks for your comment.
This is awesome, I quit playing rust 3 years ago and I was a member of damn near all of these clans it's awesome to see. Was in a clan called GGSQD with IB Prom before he made IB. Was in NK, NW, and DOT at their peaks. Also am still good friends with the leaders of TM. Was in a bunch of other clans in the later 2018-2020 era too.
Were you there for the last big wipe for NW? the one where they had the bridge into their compound in the valley by beach. I was the guy that used to follow NW around and grief them every single wipe. I was so good at griefing the leader of dot was begging me to join them. I dedicated at least 4 months straight of doing nothing but griefing NW every chance I got. Heather hated me and I was one of the things that heather and schizo would argue about because they couldnt stop me. I remember that last wipe I made heather completely lose it by blowing into her little separate base and throwing c4 on her while she was offline. She got me banned from like 3 or 4 main servers because she would get in good with the admins.

That's crazy yeah the longer you play you'll learn about the stories passed down by the last clans. It's like the Jedi Order after the fall, it's pretty cool to have that type of history feel in a game.
Don't forget .JS in the part 2. Leader "Flux" was a character to say the least. He has recently passed away. Was a pioneer in the building scene of Clan bases while also being a very controlling and dictatorship type of leader.

These documentary type pieces of yours is easily some of the best Rust content I’ve ever seen on RUclips. Really looking forward to the rest of this series, and whatever you may have in store for us afterwards!
Hey zeph,
This comment really means a lot to me.
Personally I think it’s even more satisfying with small groups as you develop an understanding of each individual
So happy this series is coming out, haven’t thought about rust clan scene in years, good old times 😭
Glad to say rust is still kinda like that, no skill gap anymore tho :(
Hi Jack, it’s been a while since we’ve last played. Glad to see you’re doing well. Thanks for the shoutout king.
You probably wont remember me but I used to play in DML with you, crazy to randomly see this video and remember how much i used to grind Rust and all the people I ran with.
dml rulz
@@totot2707 Your name does sound familiar, I think we did run it up on mains. It is kinda crazy to think about on all those late nights and weekends on Rust lmao. Good to see you're alright.
cutie, been a minute @@Noa_Borg
This felt like a video from a big channel, great job on the video and i'm looking forwards to the series. I can't believe you only have 7K subscribers.
Thanks a ton! Always try and make content I'd want to see myself.
Jesus, this came up in recommended and made me remember all the fun i had back in the day in F1K. Still remember how hilarious and entertaining those meetings were. Great job Jack, video is amazing and cant wait for the next.
Very well done. Jack is a big asset to the Rust community. Just a gem!
As someone who played around through this era on a consistent basis in a few different clans listed, I'm surprised how accurate this was good job.!
Awesome video Jack, so good to step back in time like this looking forward to next parts :D
Glad you enjoyed it! Super nice to see you again! If you have some information on any quality AU drama for 2018-2020, feel free to reach out.
@@JackShephardTV yeah be happy to share stories/videos if needed !
Used to watch vertiigo religiously when I was around 9 to 10 years old, it's amazing seeing him receive some recognition!
You’re filling a remarkable niche of content here. Love to see this
Happy to hear man, I make stuff I'd want to see myself glad to have you along for the journey.
Nice man, I think your first on the rust scene lore, and as a relatively new player, I’m both curious and here for it!
I miss tgb clan those guys were so awesome and would help solo players. They helped me a few times.
Thanks man
I know you guys disbanded but surely you can all get the band back together for a wipe sometime for old times sake. Me and my friend still talk about when you guys ruled on rustralasia in 2018. With all the new updates you guys would destroy even more these days.
TGB was my first ever rust clan I joined lol. I think I downloaded teamspeak to join and then never used it again😂

Great Video Jack! Look forward to parts 2 & 3!
Hey it’s the dude !!
Wow, so nice to see you again General! It's been such a long time. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
@@JackShephardTV Yeah it’s been an age, it’s good to hear about the old chaotic days!
Wow, this is crazy seeing a video like this after so long being an officer in FEAR, kinda sad Blackout didn't get a shoutout as he was the Leader of FEAR for years, but stoped playing for the few months during this period on Rustralasia, amazing video, gave me flashbacks of the 18 hours a day grinding we did.
meta is meta. win is win.

As a leader of [BP+] since 2015 - I must admit you did a great research. Thanks for mentioning us!
It was long time ago and yes, our greatest enemies were all the others mentioned from the European servers.
If you want to become Rust historian we might have some stories to share from that times. :)
The fact that this is 1/3 is INSANE! Cant wait for the next 2 parts.
It's only going to get more interesting since around 2019 is when clan scene saw a boom in drama and egos lol.
Thanks man Nova is 100% correct, the drama only gets better, needed this first part to set the stakes for people who play or don't play Rust to understand.
@JackShephardTV totally understandable, I got rust in November of 2022 and don't know all that much about its past. This video was extremely interesting to watch.
@@JackShephardTV Can't wait for all the drama surrounding Affinity and Vital. Easily one of the best arcs lol
The reason why CML went downhill was because big pothead was telling DMG when we were coming to raid them and Philly Thor was still destroying their base every week😅😅😅
This is an incredible concept and I’m so glad you’re telling this story.
Glad you like it!
@@JackShephardTVEnjoying, and really appreciate answers to really simple questions I had. Rust players are not keen to answer questions.
(Only been solo, friends won't touch it.😅)
This was a great watch. Good work! ☕
Appreciate you man, were playing this wipe on Rusty Moose Main Monthly if you'd want to join. One of the people in our group called pain said she played with you before, were going to do a hotel so it might be some good content, and we need some tea, haha. Feel free to add me on Discord: jackshephard if you want to connect.
This is your best work yet Jack! Can’t wait to see more from you.
I used to watch parts of this unfold on youtube before i played. most people called them clan wars iirc, this is what got me into rust.
"inkly is a dumb ** and doesn't know anything" - dot kinn
I miss dirtmcgirt, my leader 🥺
Many people probably see nickly as a bad person but really he wanted everyone to have fun and I hated how other groups treated me and their other members.
Hey man you speak truth,
Some people might think what we did was not a good investment of time, but Rust was a big part of lives.
Showed Haddock your comment, love to share credit where it's due man. Thanks for making all this happen.
Thank you shepherd ❤️
I don't normally watch youtubers with low subscribers but after enjoying a few of your videos, I can honestly say that your channel provides me with a ton of entertainment. Keep making vids brotha, they are really enjoyable
Happy to hear man! Always try to make things I'd want to see myself.
There was so much more to the european rustafied times tho, it was wild and complicated :D
Also, there was never such a thing as "TOXICBP+" but i suppose its just a typo ^^
Best regards to all the nice clans we played with and aginast, good memories ;D
so many memories, i remember ghosting cml's farm/slave base and getting what seemed like infinite loot out of it when the chopper update came out, just flew over and jumped on the roof
Awesome video dude, Definitely brought back some great memories
Yeah SA scene was very niche, hope to learn more about it.
Bro, this is crazy. I was a DML / DOT / F1K / Cloud member, so this is crazy to see. I even joined shepards villa and talked with you Jack a lot, My name was Puppy. this is INSANE!
Awesome man, I try to not only serve new players, but give justice to the OG's. Your comment means a lot Puppy happy to see you again.
Griefing all those clans wayyy back was peak rust
Crazy to have witnessed this all first hand, the nostalgia is crazy.
It's kinda like playing with civilization except we get to see it, study it and enjoy it at the same time
I've played rust till 2016, lately I've been returning to rust. And this video made come to mind lots of memories. Great video
What a video. Sub earned.
Thanks Dust! Love your content as well man, glad you enjoyed it.
After watching this whole video, it’s really unlocked some of my 12 year old memories and brought them back. I forgot how much of a noob I used to be and seeing all of this just helps me get s bigger picture of what I was apart and still am.

Great vid. Love ur content. As a generally new player, (1k hours), it’s so interesting to learn the complex history of the game and it’s community and how it has evolved.
Happy to confirm my content, can interest the future generations! Appreciate you man.
You knew exactly what you were doing with that MG song at 2:07. It literally made me cry.
Current CML member. Things are going swell.
this is the best rust video ive ever seen and it has under 100k views i feel guilt because this should 100% have much more attention
Just binge watched your entire channel, keep em coming as someone quite late to the party, it's pretty cool learning the history of rust

Haha, so much nostalgia in this video. Quit playing rust after 5k hours, and man, this was so cool.
Beautifully done gamer
Thank you Zchum! Glad you enjoyed it my guy.

That's crazy yeah the longer you play you'll learn about the stories passed down by the last clans. It's like the Jedi Order after the fall, it's pretty cool to have that type of history feel in a game.
The untold story is finally being told and who better to do it than you jack! great work!
Thank you so much neptune!
Don't forget .JS in the part 2. Leader "Flux" was a character to say the least. He has recently passed away. Was a pioneer in the building scene of Clan bases while also being a very controlling and dictatorship type of leader.

My pc broke back in 2018 and i have sadly been stuck to console gaming ever since. But it was nice re live some of those moments. Playing as a solo or role playing on the main servers and back in legacy was always so much fun and I haven’t played anything as exciting since. Great video keep it up 👍

The nostalgia is crazy, name recognition in rust is really a unique thing in rust
ive been playing rust since 2013 (legacy) and we had a clan on an official facepunch server up until the release of updated rust. There was about 10 of us and we had a big clan compound, we even have some videos online. Was also good friends with a lot of the CML guys as i also branched off from Planetside- 2 and was actually one of the few competitive players within that community ( We had won the world championship for planetside 2 community clash)
Cool to see you were apart of it man, thanks for making it happen!
