    "Computer controlled hot glue guns" Well, you just set my expectations in just one sentence. I recently ordered an Bambu A1 Mini and I've heard great reviews for beginners like myself. Beginner as in, never even touched a 3D printer. I have been watching videos, yours included, and thank you for setting my expectations. Once you said it, I immediately thought, "Well, that's about as accurate of a statement one could make about 3D printing in our current time."

    I've always assumed you should always re-spool/wind with the refill spools. A little bit of play in the wrong area can make issues worse, so do it right from the start.

    • @3DMusketeers
      @3DMusketeers  11 дней назад +1

      that seems to reduce the cost benefit then, no?

      @@3DMusketeers I personally do not see it that way, but I can see how others would, especially if they do this professionally. Time/Money.
      But for a hobby level, I feel print failure offsets the benefit of a refill spool. An overnight knot failure can waste, proportionality, a lot.
      *Edit I mean wasted time and possibly having to reprint. Although I have had a spool knot up, pull free, and cause errors because it kept pulling tight and jumping before breaking free and spinning into a giant knot. Ah, the printing hobby.

    for the guy at 16:07, if its your own design and the part allows it, i would recommend to make the hook thicker so it matches the round face at the bottom, that way you dont have to deal with supports and you have a a nice surface finish from the bed, another option would be to offset the circular part to have a flat side
    supports are going to leave artifacts on the surface that they touch, its just part of how they work

    • @3DMusketeers
      @3DMusketeers  18 дней назад

      great option! love that advice!

    • @ckitching2
      @ckitching2 7 дней назад

      If the hook still needs to be narrow but the circular ring side could be made thicker, they could also draft in the top and bottom surfaces by a few degrees to do this. Also, using chamfers (shaved off edges) instead of fillets (roundoffs) will produce a nicer surface on both the bottom and top surfaces. It'll result in something that looks much more angular, but with a little creativity, it's possible to still make a nice looking object.
      If they needed to match an existing injection molded object, then they might not be able to do any of this and they'll just be doomed to having to sand off the rough edges (or split and glue the object), but a fairly common beginner mistake is to try to remake injection molded designs for their printer instead of designing for the printer itself. FDM printers can do a lot of things that injection molding simply cannot and vice versa. That doesn't mean you can't produce a solution for the problem with your printer, but you might have to think a little outside of the (injection molded) box.

    The better way to handle that hook is to just make it thicker so you don't need support.
    Always design for the process. The round shape is also not ideal for the bottom edge. May not look as pretty but will be much more functional.

    Regarding the Re-spool tangles, my day job involves taking small coils of stainless steel tubing (very similar to filament in diameter and springiness) and loading them onto a spool cart to be straightened.
    It is incredibly easy to cause a tangle where there was none.
    If you don't have the ends the right way around (pulling from the inside instead of the outside, which can be unclear which is which) or even just accidentally tucking an end through a coil loop, you're gonna have a bad time.
    What is worse, is if you don't isolate the tangle (which is essentially an overhand knot) you will move the tangle/knot down deeper into the coil as you try to chase it. Speaking from experience 😅

    I've had the opposite issue with the bambu refills. It's actually hard to get the reusable spool to clamp down on it because it's so tight. Also I'm wondering if this guy failed to watch the instruction video? You're supposed to load the refill into the spool with the plastic straps still attached, then cut them one by one and pull them out. They're just thin enough to slip around the edges. If you cut them first you'll have issues.

    I own the Sunlu S2 and there are tons of things to print that leave a gap on the lid to help moisture come out. On the other hand, Sunlu writes that you never should open the lid while drying. The little hole on the top should be enough of a gap.
    Who's right? The manufacturer who should know how their product should work best, or the community? Does it really help letting the moisture out, or does it also let moist air in?
    Can a gap help let moisture out faster, but a closed lid removes moisture even more but needs more time to do so?
    So far, when I had bubbles with TPU, having it in the dryer for 6 hours and the lid closed at all times, it printed fine afterwards. No gap needed.
    Btw. I like white filament, but I begin to hate transparent PETG ;)

    • @bami2
      @bami2 18 дней назад +1

      I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the housing of my S2 and run it like that fully closed until the spool is dry. A bit of ventilation is required but I think it's more important to keep the heat in than let the moist air out.
      I think the little holes on top should technically be enough to expel the moist air but since there isn't any intake they can get overwhelmed easily. If you put in a very wet roll and after a bit there is a lot of moisture inside the heating chamber you can crack it open for an hour or so to help cycle the air but in order to fully dry a spool it should be closed while drying for a while. Could also be helpful to turn the spool a bit while you crack it open to let the bottom heater heat different parts of the spool directly instead of purely relying on convection.
      There is also a heater in the lid so there might be a reason of culpability for that warning from Sunlu to prevent people from burning themselves or closing it incorrectly.

      @@3DMusketeers yeah that's what I did. That worked great. The other part I was worried about is the rod in her hand has to join to the rod on the umbrella. I knew this wasn't going to work as is. So I made the rod so that it overlaps the rod in her hand just slightly. I haven't glued her into the bridge yet so I don't know how well this will work (but honestly at this point it's more of a question of can the rod hold the umbrella up).I would have finished this all this week, but stuff came up and I put printing on hold.

    lol that dude would be better off with an ender 3 ke. If it's not klipper based, it's klipper like. It's fast. It's got amazing quality. There is no reason for creality to sell lesser models.

      I agree that creality should stop selling SO MANY ENDER VARIANTS!!

      @@3DMusketeers I keep seeing ads for neo's and I'm like.....ugggg that printer is terrible. I managed to talk a few people into paying the extra for the KE. And a number of people that got the neo regretted not getting the ke. lol

    @09:10 Let's be honest... This *_IS_* a terrible design and it should be changed for a solution that makes over torquing impossible which *_IS_* possible.
    Ppl usually don't have Torque Wrenches at home - The *_ONLY_* reason _I_ have a Torque Wrench is because of my CF Bike.
