    @Fotodioxinc - I realize this video is 7 years old, but I happen to have this lens (won it in a raffle), maybe Sean or someone can answer my question. The very end of the lens, the section from the tripod mount to the eyepiece, will unscrew and come off - what is that for? Just to get better access to the shutter blades?

    Hello. I have a similar lens, 500mm f8 and cannot get it in focus. It looks great thru the view finder but when I download and review the pictures they are all blurry. Same with the Opteka 650-1300 lens, same thing, and even with a 500mm mirror lens. My camera is a Canon T5i and full manual mode. Auto-focus is great but not for these manual focus lenses. Any suggestions??

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад +3

      Hi Robert, It sounds like your issue may be shutter speed. If you shoot with a slow shutter speed and handhold the camera, even if you're in focus you may get a blurry photo because of the camera shake.

    Nice video. I was interested to hear you say that you can mount just about any lens on your Sony NEX camera. Would that include Sony A-mount lenses (with a suitable adapter)? I ask, because I'm thinking of upgrading from my Sony A58 to one of the Sony NEX models. I would be great if I can still keep using my A-mount lenses. Thanks...

      Yes, we do offer a Sony A to Sony E adapter. It's a manual adapter and doesn't have any electronic passthrough, so you will have to manually focus the adapted Sony A lenses. Here's the link: fotodioxpro.com/products/sna-sne

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  4 года назад +1

      This is a full frame lens so I'm not sure why you'd be getting vignetting, unless you're using a speedbooster, in which case the speedbooster would be reducing the lens circle size for an APS-C sensor, creating the vignette you're seeing.

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад +1

      It's going to give you a very similar look to the footage and stills in this video. Mirror telephoto lenses can't compete with regular telephotos in terms of quality, but the lower price tag can be worth it, especially if your project's subject matter is strong.

  • @blackspider2274
    @blackspider2274 7 лет назад

    I bought a manual 500 mm Vivitar telephoto lens last summer off amazon for around $150. I haven't used it much, but I find it best in AV mode. Shots come out better in that mode for some reason. I'm not a professional or anything. just like taking pics. In other modes the image is basically really white? Haven't seen much in the line of small birds yet to see what it does with that?

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад

      Hi blackspider, yeah, manual mode is best for using a manual lens like what you have. Because you have to set the aperture of the lens manually, it's best to set the ISO and shutter speed manually too. Just use the built in meter and center the dot at 0 and you should get a decent exposure. The best way to learn is to play around with the mode.

    With that kind of lens what is the minimum distance we need to be from our subject to be able to be able to focus on it? Do we need to adjust the exposure time?

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад

      The minimum focusing distance is 33' (10 m). The exposure time will depend on what f/stop and ISO you're using and what the location's lighting is like.

    @KaptainCanuck 7 лет назад

    NOTE: T2 adapters are called, originally, M42 or, I believe, Pentax. So, if a lens states any of these three mounts then they are compatible with any camera. Also, note that the older cameras mostly 35mm and so less "cropping" therefore, the pre-digital lenses will work on crop sensors (and the 4/3s (2x) crop sensor of Olympus) less than full frame but a crop sensor lens on full frame will have vignetting.

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад +3

      Hi Kyosa, the T2 and M42 mounts are actually different. They both have the same thread size, but the pitch is different so if you try to mount a T2 lens on an M42 adapter or vice-versa, you'll only be able to screw the lens one to two turns before it jams. That's why we sell both T2 and M42 adapters.

      We haven't disassembled ours, but it's a fairly simple build, so it shouldn't be too difficult to disassemble to clean.

    Hi! Thank you for the info! Can you recommend the way to avoid any shake? Even with good stabilization and auto-focus turned off, no wind, the image shakes.. Is there a perfect lens to buy? Thank you... e.g. your water tower is also shaking a tiny bit, when you are showing it close the first time. Or like this bird watching ruclips.net/video/-A2T1GHhPco/видео.html I want to solve this problem. Thank you!!

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  4 года назад

      Unfortunately this is an issue you'll always run into with a long manual lens like this that has no electronic stabilization. You can always use in-body stabilization if your camera has it, or add stabilization in post in your editing software. Having a heavy tripod that locks down tightly can also help reduce shake.

    You keep using the word 'telephoto' when you mean 'prime.' Apart from that, good video.

    • @KaptainCanuck

      A prime is of any single FL lens and a zoom is a lens that has multiple FLs while a telephoto lens is a FL over 200 (over 400 mm is usually called super telephoto) as a prime lens. He used the term 100% correctly.

    Hey, so I just bought the same monster lens from amazon. the problem is that on the view finder, it appears to be very blurry and I am unable to decrease the zoom so it can more in focus. I have a Sony a37. Any suggestions?

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад

      It's a prime lens so you won't be able to zoom in or out--the 500mm is fixed. Are you able to focus to infinity--that is, are you able to focus on the horizon/things very far away? If you're unable to do that you may have a damaged/faulty lens.

    • @lmishelle2005
      @lmishelle2005 7 лет назад

      I have tried that yet but once I do, I'll keep you in the loop. Also, is it normal for it it be blurry when it's up close?

    • @FotodioxInc
      @FotodioxInc  7 лет назад

      Yes, it has a limit to how close it can focus.

    • @pierluc_cr
      @pierluc_cr 7 лет назад

      If you try to take a photo of something in home, except if you live in a monstrously big home, everything will be blurry. You have to go outside to test it. Do I'm correct?
