I’m 41 now and I last tried to play a 3/4 dreadnaught back in grade school. It was uncomfortable and I lost interest. I’ve been thinking about taking lessons again, and I stumbled on this guitar at GC. It was easily the most comfortable acoustic I’ve played and amongst the other acoustics there. As a recovering flatpicker I can say that I have played most every commercially available acoustic plus quite a few custom instruments. Pre-Covid that is what I did instead of enjoying a normal social life. I judge everything against the Classic Martin dreadnought tone. That Ibanez sounds better than 90% of the Taylor’s I have played. I would go so far as to say that it has its own unique sound. It hits my ears as a blend of Martin and a vintage Guild. Of course the player is part of the equation and that was some pretty clean picking. I haven’t heard a better tone for under 1k. Cheers!

Consider instead a Cordoba C4 CE. It's a solid mahogany top, layered mahogany back and sides classical for about $350 from Musician's Friend. Electronics are already on board. The tuners are its weak spot but I changed mine out for about $28.00 in about 20 minutes.
Amazing.. landed in same suprisong situation with an Ibanez AVC-11, didn’t expect much, ok heat treated top, bridge and bracings, but laminate back and sides.. Holy sh.. I was surprised after som new strings and a pair og decent tuners.. simply amazing guitar I Grand Concert size. Ibanez really master to “Tune” laminate backs to an incredible responsiveness.. what an sustain. And combined with the amazing easy V shaped neck, then it’s the go-to guitar even I got several higher priced solid guitars (Eastman E6D and Cort Gold Om6).. the EVC11 just have n magic sound, and response.. These Ibanez are build by Cort, and sure the designers knew what there was doing. As said..just changer the tuners to Grover V97 1:18, and we were flying :-)
It really depends on which one feels good in your hands as the AW is a dreadnought sized guitar and the AC is an orchestra size (smaller) which size do you prefer? cheers
I was thinking of buying the 2021 Ibanez AEG70VVH but not sure about it. The specs are pretty close to the AC340 except the nut width is 43mm versus 45mm for the AC340. The other thing that I noticed was the nut is plastic on the AEG70; in your opinion, would it be better to go for a bone nut (like on the AC340)? Just not sure if it makes that much of a difference--it would be my first acoustic...also, it's about $100 more. Thanks for any help...
I haven’t played the AEG70VVH but having a look at the specs it has the pickup system already fitted and the nut is slightly smaller as you say, if you are going to plug it in to amplify it then a pickups system is necessary, for your first acoustic it seems ideal, I wouldn’t worry about the bone nut for now, but if you can a chance to try them both out then that’s always the best option, but in my opinion you can’t go wrong with the playability of the Ibanez acoustics cheers!
Hey, I'm confused about whether the wood is okoume or mahogany. At some source they called okoume spruce. Wondering how different they sound. I think I want this guitar but I bought, played and returned the PRS-P20 (also the Guild M120), the PRS is a really great guitar, but I like the idea of having a wider neck like my high end Larrivee's.
@@DerekPaulGuitar thanks for the fast reply! I've heard okoume's hardness is a fair amount softer of a wood. It's hard to tell with "cheaper" guitars. Laminate guitars can look really nice. I think I'm gonna buy 240 or 340 Ibanez. They seem pretty nice for the price!
If I'm not mistaken, the old version was mahogany. The ones from 2019 onwards are okoume. Some people say okoume sounds similar to mahogany but a bit lighter in weight.

Just had this experience today. Played on this guitar in store and overall I felt it was solid and had that amazing warmth. It did not pop the low ends to deep considering it's size, and overall it was extremely pretty where I would almost put it in a Taylor/Martin combo sound. I must mention it stands on it's own and not even necessary to compare. I did feel it could have used just a touch more fullness in the dynamic range, however it handled in the pocket it was designed to be in ( which you just need to accept or don't lol )This construction just grooved in that warmth pocket and delivered while staying incredibly in tune. So what am I really saying? I bought it on the spot :) lol
Paul, so the nut width is 45mm on this Ibanez? I just cannot stand the standard 43 mm anymore. It's almost impossible for me to play clean on them with my thicker finger tips.
@@DerekPaulGuitar I actually have pretty small hands and short fingers, but pretty thick fingers. So I feel I need that extra 2mm width on the nut, but at the same time not a chunky full C-shape neck profile. I wasn't born to play the guitar.🤣 To play, as an example, a clean B7 open chord on a 43mm nut is impossible for me. Highly frustrating at times. Take care.
Can anyone please help? What hard case would I get for this? I have a flimsy gig bag but need something more solid as I will be taking the guitar out a lot more.
Try this one :) www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AC100C--ibanez-ac100c-hardshell-guitar-case as this is one of the comments…Rated 5/5 High Quality Guitar Case Perfect fit for my Ibanez AC340. High quality guitar case for a great price
How is this compared to Yamaha FS800? I'm trying to choose between the two, but Yamaha available for me only online, so I can't see it in person before buying.
@@DerekPaulGuitar No worries, I tend to gravitate to Ibanez myself anyway) Have you maybe tried Ibanez's Powerpad gig bags? I'm confused a little, on their website recommended bag for AC340 is ICB540, which is a bag for classical guitars, but they also have IAB series of bags for acoustic guitars. According to diagrams AC340 body length is 19 3/8" (and if my calculations are correct it's 492 mm), but ICU bags (again according to diagrams) have 485 mm of interior body length space (vs 580 mm on IAB bags). So which is preferable: 7 mm lack of space (I guess, it'll be snugg, but fit) or 88 mm of loose space? Mayby someone knows?)

@@lafinestracatalana8340 Hi, the AC340 had different variants of wood construction depending on the model year, a guy that follows the channel sent me a link to the variants and the one i have is a solid top, with regards to sound, well.. thats going to be subjective of course, does it sound like a Martin? no, does it resonate like a Martin? no, but it is a great guitar for the money, it has it's own character and i still gig with it against a Taylor 814ce, the sound of the tow guitars compliment each other as mine is darker and the the Taylor is brighter and fuller, purchasing depends on your budget, ears and your playing style preference, horses for courses, cheers!

Total BS. I have had mine for several years and it is still in fantastic condition. I have noticed you badmouthing this instrument in other replies to this thread so you apparently have some undisclosed vendetta against Ibanez

You wear an Illinois jacket so you must be right! I'm just waiting for a second hand option to pop up locally!
Haha thanks! Good luck
Hi Derek, This guitar is top of my list at the moment. However, I want to swap out the strings for Nylon ones. Do you see any problems with this idea?
The only problem would be the bridge pins, nylon string guitars have a different bridge, cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar Thanks Derek. I can probably get around the pin problem 👍
@@jeffreybarton1297 no worries 👍
Consider instead a Cordoba C4 CE. It's a solid mahogany top, layered mahogany back and sides classical for about $350 from Musician's Friend. Electronics are already on board. The tuners are its weak spot but I changed mine out for about $28.00 in about 20 minutes.
@@Bradnick930 good choice, I swapped out the tuners on the Ibanez for gotoh ones for $30, much better 16/1 ratio tuners, cheers
Amazing.. landed in same suprisong situation with an Ibanez AVC-11, didn’t expect much, ok heat treated top, bridge and bracings, but laminate back and sides..
Great comment thanks! I also swapped the tuners but with Gotoh, nice one!
@@DerekPaulGuitar If you put on open-gear ones, they opened your guitar even more.
Which one should I get?
AC340 or AW54?
They are similarly priced in my country.
It really depends on which one feels good in your hands as the AW is a dreadnought sized guitar and the AC is an orchestra size (smaller) which size do you prefer? cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar So, apart from the body type, the rest is practically the same?
@@azku From what i see online it looks very very similar apart from he body shape, cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar Thank u for your reply.
@@azku You are welcome.
@@DerekPaulGuitar Thanks alot for the help...
@@michelerosevear7466 You're welcome
Hey, I'm confused about whether the wood is okoume or mahogany. At some source they called okoume spruce. Wondering how different they sound. I think I want this guitar but I bought, played and returned the PRS-P20 (also the Guild M120), the PRS is a really great guitar, but I like the idea of having a wider neck like my high end Larrivee's.
As I understand it, okoume is a type of mahogany, after a guy that commented researched it :)
@@snarlador definitely worth playing at a store if you can, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, thanks man!
If I'm not mistaken, the old version was mahogany. The ones from 2019 onwards are okoume.
Some people say okoume sounds similar to mahogany but a bit lighter in weight.
Great video man well presented

I don't know if i should get this or the martin d10...
Definitely play them both I would say, see which one works for you :)
Haha great story and loved the build up!

How similar is this to the AVC9? My ex has our old AVC9 and I'm trying to find something very similar, if not identical to this.
It honestly from the spec looks pretty identical to me.
Hello, does the guitar have a truss rod?
Yes it does, thanks
Paul, so the nut width is 45mm on this Ibanez? I just cannot stand the standard 43 mm anymore. It's almost impossible for me to play clean on them with my thicker finger tips.
Hi, yes indeed, it’s 45mm, I’m the same, have bigger hands, cheers!
@@DerekPaulGuitar I actually have pretty small hands and short fingers, but pretty thick fingers. So I feel I need that extra 2mm width on the nut, but at the same time not a chunky full C-shape neck profile. I wasn't born to play the guitar.🤣
To play, as an example, a clean B7 open chord on a 43mm nut is impossible for me. Highly frustrating at times. Take care.

How is this compared to Yamaha FS800? I'm trying to choose between the two, but Yamaha available for me only online, so I can't see it in person before buying.
I haven’t played the Yamaha sorry, I’ve heard good things though
@@timoshch I looked into the hard case scenario myself a while ago, I would go for more snug but other may have different opinions, cheers!
1:55 Sounds good. Is it from a song?
Thanks! It’s a song called ‘The Letter’ by Joe Cocker.
My choice Baton Rouge X54
You're shitting me... That cannot possibly just cost 300?!
Is there anyone who can tell me the distance from E to E on the bridge? Thanks
This guitar sounds poor vs martin road series same family wood.
I had this ibanez and sounds right but not professional like martin junior sapele all solid wood, Sigma sounss better same kind of model, I can say this because i had same guitars, is a guitar to go at camping.
Thanks for the comment and feedback, cheers!
@@DerekPaulGuitar
Is not about brands, sound is construction and good wood, this ibanez is not good sound, is not mahogany, the top is compressed laminated wood, not solid like the stick saiy.
I bought this guitar and I played in pro shows, was terrific expirience.
I recomended you martin junior all solid wood or also taylor gs mini mahogany.
I studed luthery after this deception guitar , for this price you got a Sigma or Harley benton same series under 150 eue with better sound and construction.
I think you can't have a real opinion if you never played martin road series sapele or DX-2 series new models where you have real solid top with scalopped x bracing.
@@DerekPaulGuitar No, sorry, you are a big confusion under ignorance.
Sound is not opinion, sound it is maths, this guitars are made in same factory of Fender the worst acoustic guitars in China, best cheap guitars in sound construction tasted in laboratoryare:
Sigma,Epiphone made in indonesia and Recording King solid models/ Blueridge, is not opinion is about facts, but I respect your preferences but are not real.
for 300 you are paying more for no mahogany guitar with real solid top of wood with handcrafted x bracing, that you can't ignore, Taylor that you mentioned is not in mahogany spectrum you never can't compare it, are diferent sounds.
In mahogany with real solid top only sigma) harley benton with handmade x bracing, EASTMAN too!! sorry!
Sorry but in acoustic you are green like a tree, no knowlesge in acoustic sound, only in electric your coments demonstrate your unkow about acoustic guitars.
Solid wood always is better than laminate, recirding king make a solid amazing guitars for 350 pounds and eastman 445 those two brands are the best economic ranges with sigma.
All wood of those models come from same patron never diferent like you said me, I wroted in same factory who works for ibanez and showed me the original wood with pictures, big disaster, sorry but you are telling lies to your subscriptors, this guitar is not good option in price and construction and sound.
300/250 in this case is so much money for no real solid top of mahogany.
Thanks

What a dork.
Build quality sucks and it will not last. You can service it back into playing condition, but if you're going to spend that money - might as well buy a Yamaha.
Total BS. I have had mine for several years and it is still in fantastic condition. I have noticed you badmouthing this instrument in other replies to this thread so you apparently have some undisclosed vendetta against Ibanez
Mine is AC 240, 10yo, warm, greasy, bluesy sounding guitar, which I love dearly, but sorry to say, sound board started to deform slightly, dry air during winter heating... probably, but I'll keep her forever! One Love...
For your info, this idiot writes crap like this under all Ibanez videos.

What strings are you running?
