Hey Emmy, another great ration review! I wanted to say thank you for adding the rations to your repertoire. It' great that you not only do them, but you actually take them seriously and make fair reviews of them. It's easy enough to simply be like "Ewww, can you believe they make this disgusting crud?", but you obviously take it for what it is and give them a fair and honest review. I just wanted to say thank you for that!
+gschultz9 Thanks so much for the kind words. 😊 Making the ration series has been a fascinating way to learn about food and cultures; trying to understand what foods are considered comforting, how field preparation varies depending on location, and of course, the fact that everything has to be shelf-stable. Amazing really. The rations have also directed me to a book called Combat-Ready Kitchen by Anastacia Marx de Salcedo, which recounts how military food is inextricably linked to the food we find in the grocery store. I highly recommend it. And big thanks to you, Gundog and KiwiDude for welcoming me into the ration tasting community. Y'all are swell.
+emmymadeinjapan Thank you right back to you for YOUR kind words! And thank you for that book recommendation. It sounds very interesting. I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere!
hiya gschultz, yes you are right bro that is what's missing from MRE / Ration reviews quite often! cheers man by the way, many reviewers have links to other channels in their descriptions, do you know is this something people just do or have they all agreed to do this? Cheers from the uk
My husband brought one to school when he was a kid and he got in trouble because of the self heating chemicals 😂😂 he said he loved the grilled chicken one
Nice to see ya eat one of the MREs in "the field"! Looked pretty tasty actually. The hungrier and further out in the woods you are the better all those components will taste! Thanks for sharing.
I love MRE's. I use to always search the box for the beef stew ones whenever my dad would bring them home. Back then though, they didn't have the warmers. The either ate them as is or heated them up by rubbing them my dad would tell me. Also sometimes the would boil water and stick the pouch in the water.
I showed my mum your channel during springbreak and everyday she was cooking dinner I could hear your voice from the kitchen.... THANK YOU for all your hard work Emmy.
I have been binge watching your vids for about a week... I must say, you are a true culinary adventurer. I really enjoy your videos, especially the foreign military MREs and kitchen gadgets.
Michael J. Caboose that doesn't even make any sense. Are you trying to be funny? Are you trying to roast someone? They meant MRE but just got it confused with an MRI. It's one letter different so chill.
The secret is to put whatever entree you’re eating onto the bread or crackers. A) it makes it more bearable (wheat snack bread sucks) and B)it helps you eat faster (not a lot of time in the field). Also good vid btw 👍
Your videos are great and you are so much fun to watch! My favorite types of videos of yours are the MRE type eats, you made what? and the prison recipes.! I get so excited when you post!
I love you Emmy! I look forward to watching each of your videos every time a new one comes up! I really love how you try food and your personality is just marvelous. You are a very special person :)
Been eating quite similar rations here and there but I actually never stopped to taste them. MREs are fuel and usually consumed quite rapidly, so these tasting videos are fun to watch. And truly, usually the main flavour is Tabasco. These videos are more than fun, thanks Emmy!
It didn't seem to. I thought that was a little odd, but Emmy was probably reasonably warm, even though she could feel the cold. Also, I would guess that she didn't plan to have the MRE be her meal, just take small samples of it, as usual, so not ravenously hungry, nor without some other (tastier) food in her immediate future. I'm a little surprised that she didn't mash up the potatoes with her fork, if that's the texture she wants. It's what I do, with ordinary stew (not rations).
great video as usual Emmy, love your MRE series! :) where were you? It was a beautiful location! Also I marvel at the sound quality of your setup - it sounded very windy but your voice was very clear! ♥ yay!
I remember that when I was on active duty at Fort Stewart (30 years ago), the beef stew meal was one of my favorites. The formulation was different, though. (I don't think that there was any tomato in the stew then.)
Thank you so much for all your inspiration! I am not much of a video type person, but I will do doing something a little similar in blog form. We had a big natural disaster here several years ago, and still had a case (12 meals) that was never opened. I am opening and tasting them as usual, but then will be re purposing the leftovers into other things. Tonight is the first "leftover night", where I will use the chili and mexican corn and making grilled stuffed burritos. :) Thanks again!
haha a 7min review, must have been cold that day! Kudos emmy for doing an outdoors review, I do them all the time but I'm glad to see you have done it also now :) (I know this was 2016) but it still counts AAAAND 2:01, you also have an Opinel! Cool cheers from the UK
The beef stew was the best with the crackers and cheese pouch. We used to heat up the cheese and crunch up the crackers and add it all together with the Tabasco bottle. The best. Also ranger pudding was another excellent concoction to make from mre's
Not sure if you're aware, but you can put that hot chocolate in with the entree to heat together. It bows the box a bit, but works well. You can either toss it in the actual ration heater or put it just in the box.
+Emily Uhde Doubt whether the military issue them, but you CAN get toasters that work on camp stoves. They're like a little wire cage with mesh on the sides that you put on the flame like a pot. The mesh diffuses the heat of the flame so the whole piece of bread gets radiant heat. They work pretty well.
When I was in cadets as a kid we used to eat these. The apple jelly was really popular because people used to add it to rice or pork or whatever to make it taste a little better. It was kind of like the ramen flavour packs from Orange Is The New Black, haha. :)
I absolutely adore you Emmy!!!! You get me through long 12 hour shifts...I love every video I have seen and look forward to many more!!! I would love to send you a package from New Mexico 😍
I had some of the MRE's you had on your tube and majority of them were very salty, but they do the job when you kinda have to rely on them for energy. You made it looks so good. My daughter love watching you. Maybe she will do her version of you with my MRE's.
When I was in the Air Cadets here in Canada and we had to go "out in the field" I loved the beef stew... I wish I could eat that again!...We were at camp one winter and there was an actual cafeteria for us with meals prepared daily but I would ask for ration packs instead haha loved those things! But its been over 20 years probably that I haven't had any ration packs and I'd love to have the chance to eat some again...
You can heat all the bread products and it makes them taste a lot better! If you start your MRE heater in the main meal box then add all the things you want warm back into the thick plastic bag everything came in, you can warm it all at once. Even mix your hot beverage in its bag and put in the thick bag. Then you don’t waste the best heat from the heater! (Army brat-here) 😁
so usually the chocolate beverage powders are fairly good however i refrain from using cold water since cold water and powders (especially milk powders) almost never fully homogenize. i recommend using ambient temp- hot water.
Lol this was fun to watch. I've had an MRE once and I am ready to try another one! But my husband being in the Army has had his share with MREs and he said that the gum is actually a laxative. Since MRE have so much protein, fiber and other nutrients, that gum is to save the day from severe constipation lol.
+Lissette Rodriguez The gum is not a laxative! It is just a myth. Actually, the purpose of the gum is to clean your teeth and mouth. Chewing gum stimulates saliva production which helps remove food particles. And now, Xylitol, a sugar substitute used in many chewing gums, has been proven to reduce plaque. The Vegetable crackers have a higher fiber content and hence a makes it easier to evacuate. Not the gum though.
I absolutely love this beef stew ; it reminds me of a product that was discontinued in Canada during the early 90's. It certainly isn't gourmet by any stretch - but it tastes good.
Emmy I love your shows, I love how you explain what all the foods you get from other countries taste like, I have never done a taste test, because I don't like giving my card number out.You just never know if you will be scammed or not. But thank you for demonstrating it out for me maybe someday I will have the guts to do it. Emmy please be safe.
I have a suggestion about the dry, rubbery bread. Probably would not be practical, maybe not even doable for a soldier in the field, but here goes. I re-hydrate dry French bread and hard rolls all the time, so this adaptation of my method might work for the MRE bread. Slice it open sidewise to make 2 full size slices. dribble a little water over the cut sides. Stick the 2 halves back together, put them back in the wrapping. When you take the main course out of the heater bag, put the bag with the bread in to heat. You may need to cover or wrap up the package to hold what's left of the heat. That should soften and rehydrate the bread. It could then be left wrapped in plastic, and used later for the PBJ sandwich. Or you could make the sandwich while the bread's warm, and wrap it up to eat later.
Hey, Emmy, as a tip for future US-Issued MREs, with the hot beverage bag, you can finagle it into the heater alongside the ration and heat them at the same time. :)
I also live in Rhode Island and it's pretty cool to know you are close 😂 because I have been watching your videos for years and they are so interesting
Poor Emmy you were seriously frozen towards the end of the video! But sooooo cute! Thank you for sharing you love and curiosity of life with us, loved your chanel!
Whenever we get those "cocoa or coffee" beverage bags, I'll shove them on the other side of my heating up dinner and warm them at the same time, being careful not to let the brown bag touch the heater. Heater will stay hot for a really long time too, so you can throw stuff in your cleaned out MRE entree bag, and heat it as well!
Beef stew is one of the better menus. I don't know how long you cooked the entree for but I can share my experiences with the heater packs. You can get then to cook very quickly with the right amount of water.
I love how she says it's not really good then takes another sip just to describe it to us 😂😂. Oh the things you do for us Emmy!!
If that's you in the profile you're cute
I need her and Steve1989 to do a mashup. OMFG, please yeeaahhss
Hey Emmy, another great ration review! I wanted to say thank you for adding the rations to your repertoire. I love MRE's. I used to eat them in ROTC and my husband brings them home & we eat them during target practice.
sounds fun
My husband brought one to school when he was a kid and he got in trouble because of the self heating chemicals 😂😂 he said he loved the grilled chicken one
ROTC is super gay
Nice to see ya eat one of the MREs in "the field"! Looked pretty tasty actually. The hungrier and further out in the woods you are the better all those components will taste! Thanks for sharing.
Even when she's not at home her camera angles are still on point. Awesome video I loved it!!
I love MRE's. I use to always search the box for the beef stew ones whenever my dad would bring them home. Back then though, they didn't have the warmers. Lol, your endings always make me giggle! I love when people aren't afraid to be silly. Biggest rock is definitely best rock.
I really like the extra aspect of the background with the MRE! So pretty 😍
why is your MRE videos are so satisfying to watch
+Uchiha イタチ Oddly more satisfying than the others. I'm not sure why.
+Zehn Waters Because she likes having fun with hers
Harsh Pree thats what she said
Welcome back to another "Emmy-R-E" tasting. I'm not sure what would go into a Emmy R E, though. Candy? Ramen? One, pre-cooked, freeze-dried Emmy? :P
NO!
The last one doesn't seem at all appetizing...
pls no lolol
One popin cookin ramen set! With a grape ramune on the side!
+HongKongPhooey89

What a beautiful area you are visiting! And your hat is adorable. Great MRE video

+It's Sunny in Midji lol Awesome.
Emmy, you always go above and beyond! I love it. You're one of the best you tubers out there!
I have been binge watching your vids for about a week... I must say, you are a true culinary adventurer. I really enjoy your videos, especially the foreign military MREs and kitchen gadgets.
I don't know what's wrong with me. But I love watching these mri's😂
Michael J. Caboose lmao!!!
Michael J. Caboose that doesn't even make any sense. Are you trying to be funny? Are you trying to roast someone? They meant MRE but just got it confused with an MRI. It's one letter different so chill.
THEY?! WHOS THEY?! ITS "SHE MEANT". YOUR GRAMMAR SUX! *SLAP* >:(
futuramabender20 dood did you assume that persons gender?!! In 2k17?!?!?!?
I love them too. This one was fast since she was outside in the cold. :(
I've had the beef stew one on multiple occasions. Definitely my favorite.
I love the field test for this MRE! The scenery is beautiful too!
The secret is to put whatever entree you’re eating onto the bread or crackers. A) it makes it more bearable (wheat snack bread sucks) and B)it helps you eat faster (not a lot of time in the field). Also good vid btw 👍
omgg i was so exicited to see I new video from emmy☺️

I absolutely love these videos 💞 your descriptions are sooooooo vivid and I really appreciate that !
Did being "on location", in the cold, change your opinion of the mre, as far as flavor, warmth, etc? Did it seem more appealing/appetizing?
It didn't seem to. I thought that was a little odd, but Emmy was probably reasonably warm, even though she could feel the cold. This video was great Emmy, I love that you did this outdoors!

Cooked in the field, thats really cool :D great video!
I bet that apple turnover would be much better if you popped it in the toaster.
Totally...
+emmymadeinjapan MREs need to start including tiny toasters :-)
+emmymadeinjapan look at you now getting all fancy lol love you
+Emily Uhde Doubt whether the military issue them, but you CAN get toasters that work on camp stoves. They're like a little wire cage with mesh on the sides that you put on the flame like a pot. Oohh Yea.
This was one of my favorite MRE'S when I was going through BCT.
I love it when she does mre for some reason I just feel like its so interesting with the asmr
I have just found your channel one day that I was sick and I am loving your videos!! Keep up the good work Emmy! 😜😃
+Shayne Olivia Thanks and welcome aboard!

YASSS....These are one of the best types of videos
You should try and get one that has Irish cream coffee! It's my fav and I had it when we had an earthquake up here in Hawai'i!!

Beautiful scenery for a ration tasting ❤❤❤

Love you trying meals ready to eat !!
Brave woman, there are certain acronyms that accompany those meals. In any case they're very palatable for what they are, great video.
This is a wonderful video, Emmy!
+koukounut Thanks! Hearing that you guys enjoyed it made braving the cold worth it.
Hope you got a nice toasty beverage and huddled under some thick blankets when you got home!
I also live in Rhode Island and it's pretty cool to know you are close 😂 because I have been watching your videos for years and they are so interesting
For the drink that you said would be better hot. You could try putting the water in it and shaking it up then putting it in the flamless heater
I'm loving these mre videos
I love watching these MRE videos! They're so fun and interesting :)
haha is this the first time emmy's outright called something terrible? Too funny
watched all the mre vids , finally another one ! ❤️
I love these MRE videos!
I always make food before I watch your MRE videos. Keep being awesome Emmy :D
The background is so nice!
This is actually really nice to stalk up on in case of emergencies
Love your videos Emmy!!
Being from Brooklyn... I Really like the way you said "schmear".... Well done !
I'm from Germany, and in German it's called 'schmieren'
In Dutch its smeren
Such a beautiful background, seems very serene.
cool to see you try the mre in an outdoor setting!
so excited! another MRE video
i don't know where to buy or get it but please try Indonesian MRE :)
The end though😂😂😂😂
Poor Emmy you were seriously frozen towards the end of the video! But sooooo cute! Thank you for sharing you love and curiosity of life with us, loved your chanel!
+Fang Han ⛄️ 😆
Emmy is my best friend I haven't met yet
Love the endings of your videos lol so goofy! XD
I love the little clips at the end right after the "like and subscribe" part! Always a funny surprise xD
+Kara Kern 😁
Wow Emmy......i think you just one upped the Kings of MRE reviews.
Now i want to see " IN the field " reviews from all our other MRE reviewers.
I LOVE this on location type of feel!!!!!
i think i have a problem when i realized how much i love watching these videos
I love the beef stew ones! I tried it while starving in my room lol
I'm in the military myself and would love to send you some of my fave mres to try Emmy!!
+Andre Connor Yay!!! That would be swell. 🍴👍
I love all your videos. Please try a Korean MRE!! 😍
Damn, my heart skipped a beat when I saw you open that bag with the knife. Some dangerous knife handling skillz lol.
Nice that you shot this outdoors, some place scenic
Whenever we get those "cocoa or coffee" beverage bags, I'll shove them on the other side of my heating up dinner and warm them at the same time, being careful not to let the brown bag touch the heater. Heater will stay hot for a really long time too, so you can throw stuff in your cleaned out MRE entree bag, and heat it as well!
Beef stew is one of the better menus. I don't know how long you cooked the entree for but I can share my experiences with the heater packs. You can get then to cook very quickly with the right amount of water.
Hello Emmy! I'm from Montreal, Canada and I really love your videos. ❤️❤️❤️
+Mélanie Roussel Hello!👋
This was so charming, Emmy. Loved this video!
+Sanah Thanks!
Ive eaten this MRE before and i really liked it, some of them are really good!
I like how where it tells you how to tilt the heater it says "rock or something" on the rock it's leaning on
I love your videos Emmy 😍
