Idea: Have a keypad with lamp blocks behind it and a player, if you enter the correct combination, the player will let you you through, else they will not let you through, seems to follow the rules.
I tried making a button lock without knowing any of this stuff and it was tough and scuffed but I got it to work eventually using locked hoppers and it took me like 3 days and it was big 😂
not much of a Redstone watcher myself but this video was edited so masterfully I was hooked the whole time. amazing story, can't wait to see if it gets broken.
I think stacked hopper minecarts with varying key items would be the way to compress all of this into a fixed size. 1 digit vs 300 digits would have the same size. This raises questions about the measuring tho. Because 1digit could be 50 blocks (so bigger) but 100 digits could still be 50 blocks (much smaller)
In my opinion, a combo lock needs at least 2 numbers so if a design has n blocks per digit, times it by 2 and you have the result i swear snazz deserves the 1k... what a design 😮
That intro song filled me with intense *Grief.* My brain went into a full *Stalemate* after I heard it. Something about it really made me want to visit a *Slaughterhouse* for some reason...
I used this system back when I first started MC on PS3. Many years ago, I built a calculator using nearly the same design and a 3x3 button grid. The version I was using was even before hoppers and redstone blocks.
I've thought of using droppers to move an item to the next digit when you enter a correct number. The problem with this design is that the resetting mechanism is not easy.
I didn't test for the 27 blocks one, but for the 20 and 16 combination locks, which are in the google doc, when an input is wrong, the signal doesn't disappear
I have an idea for a design that might be even smaller than the winning entry, but there are two problems: 1. I haven't built it succesfully yet; 2. When and if I get it working, it's a one-use lock. Let's say you hook it up to a door, if you press the buttons in the right order the door will open and stay open, but if you press the wrong button at any point, you will never be able to open it, even if you try the right combination later. That is, until the lock is manually reset of course.
Since the teaser post, I screamed every time "is that zylenox?" "Yo zylenox is in that video" etc. Only for him to be present in 1 second of the intro 😂
Damn, amazing music choices and usage of sound effects were pretty nice!!! Also cool visuals to follow through the video, it was interesting to watch ^^
Maybe Chiseled bookshelf should be able to allow this, tecnically not with buttons, but books, since they are like MADE with stuff like thks on mind Amazing video btw, very easy to follow along!

i'm still a rookie when it comes to redstone, only know the absolute basics, but you're making me feel like learning more just for a shot at this.... damn
Honestly, I think this might be possible with a lot fewer blocks, this is because entities such as boats, mobs, and minecarts give a ton of flexibility without increasing the block count.
ngl the first bit of the video has explained more about Redstone to me than the almost decade of playing the game has i very much enjoy this video you gained a sub
When I was watching this video, I was thinking to myself "wouldn't it be easy to do this with dropper/hoppers and noteblocks?" and then you did it. For the record, I have never done a combination lock that didn't require command blocks lmao
If I were to win this (and let's be real, there's no way I would), I would buy the LEGO Minecraft Mountain Cave in new condition. Or maybe a bunch of BIONICLE sets. Good luck to everyone entering!
I know of a design for an order-sensitive item frame lock that uses only one item frame and one button for an input, that is theoretically infinitely expandable It's not the smallest under the hood, but the UI is (the part where you enter the code), and you can literally hide the existence of the lock and the door by _taking it with you in your inventory._ If you take the item frame and the button with you then nobody knows the lock is there. It works similarly to your lectern lock, but also it has a full reset line, you can optionally add any number of reset buttons to close it from the inside, and because of the nature of the way this particular decoder works, you can set one of the digits to 9 and it is effectively lockdown mode, requiring you to use an alternative input on that digit that can go higher than 8. The original design is not mine, but I did modify it to be 4 digits by default, modified it to be wicked easy to change the combination, and I modified it to work on both Bedrock and Java with no changes required (if you're just building my 4 digit design). I have a video showing it on my channel, and I'm pretty sure I have the original designer credited in there. If anyone wants a full build tutorial I can do so.

Wtf, that was fast. But still, it has 6 empty spaces.
I love how grian is just standing among brilliant redstoners
I thought I saw wrong but I rewinded the vid and yeah, Grian is standing there in all his redstone confusion. He must have gotten lost XD
He probably just wanted to press some buttons. What better way to see if your Redstone is grian-profed than by grian testing it
I thought that too. How dare crafty not give grian his own throne for being the best redstoner ever seen.
