The fact that you traveled 3 million blocks and just started playing Minecraft again was beautiful. The purity of you 3 just playing together actually made me tear up. Great video
so, if anyone was curious, I'm pretty sure that a lot of the weirdness that happens near the farlands is a result of float imprecision. Basically, the way minecraft, and most computer programs, for that matter, store non-integer numbers, such as coordinates is by using floating point variables. because of the way floating point variables are stored, the further the number is from zero, the less precise the number can be, meaning that the distance between possible values gets wider and wider. in most contexts this basically never matters, because the range of possible values is pretty huge, but at extreme values things can start to get very noticeably broken. The farlands themselves are, I believe, when the distance between consecutive values gets so big that it breaks something about Minecraft's terrain generation code.
I revisit this often. It’s a lesson in perseverance and good old Minecraft ingenuity. It’s like a mini Blockbuster, beginning with a dream. There’s trials and tribulations, laughter (lots) and tears along the way, and time for nostalgia and personal reflection too. Epic.
We have a kind of farlands in bedrock. It's mostly just jittery stuff like these guys had just before they reached the farlands, but if you go far enough blocks only generate in stripes and you need an elytra and fireworks to move, and then even further they only generate in a grid. Then everything stops eventually.
For me the craziest thing about this is thinking that I actually played this version at the time of release! (And a few before it..) I remember when hunger was added, and I also remember when redstone was added 😮😮
If the world was created 1.12.2 you could downgrade through every version until you hit around the 1.0 mark. Then you would have to downgrade the world to beta 1.7.3 using a MCA to MCR region converter which replaces all modern blocks. You could go even further and downgrade to alpha or infdev using an old version of mcedit though that would require you to manually remove all modern blocks that don't exist in alpha or infdev or it would crash.
I would love to say so much, but this is just a comment this is the most nostalgic video and feat I have ever seen you are a genuine legend for this, and its so nice remembering beta Minecraft and staying up late with my friends :_) thank you.
Wow, traveling 12 million blocks for one screenshot is truly dedication! The lengths you went to for that perfect shot are impressive. Amazing journey and beautiful result!
The reason the world was destroyed when Minecraft was downgraded from 1.13 to 1.12 was because the 1.13 update included some major changes that separates new Java versions, and the line between those two versions is the Java seperator

Its not that minecrafts code itself breaks, its more that floating point numbers can’t make numbers this high because nearly all the bits would have to be devoted to integer values, meaning the decimal can be very limited
