this video is legitimately impressive on a technical level in terms of compositing, modeling, animation, everything.

I've been over-analyzing a 100 Gecs music video for too long now. The Mushroom guy had a very special key that would glow in his hands unliked the other keys shown but suddenly a rat is shown approaching him, moments before he takes it we see this grim reaper figure approaching shaking his head signifying something very bad is to come. The rat then takes the key from the mushroom guy and he chases him through multiple strange areas filled with some really sick scenery including what looks like an rpg maker screen lmao. We then see the mushroom guy sitting in area with a ton of snails with freaky backs resting or something only for his hat to pick up the scent of the rat again and he's back o the chase. He almost catches the rat but was tricked into an hourglass with a bunch of faces on it that look like the ones on the snails I think. The rat then ragdolls like a dead npc in gmod to celebrate as the mushroom guy has a seizure and tries to break out of the hourglass only for his hand to melt when he touches the liquid in the pot the key was thrown into. We then see him facing the reaper guy from earlier as he slashes him and he supposedly dies while the rat rests. Could it be that he was transformed into a snail? Are the snails past mushroom dudes who have failed on whatever thing he needs the key for? Why does the rat want the key and to foil his plan? I'm way too absorbed in this video for a 100 Gecs song somebody help
The mushroom people are all people like him that are trapped in the hourglass. When the last drop from the moon fills the glass the hourglass's enchantment resets and the portal between the worlds opens again. I think the hat is supposed to be sustaining the mushroom man's consciousness somehow since it's strapped onto him and its eyes glow the same color as his eyes.

i know it's just a shitpost music video but really everything here just seems to make some sort of sense that i just don't understand yet. like it feels like there's an actual plot behind all these dense ass trippy visuals.
i think mushroom guy might have been guarding the key on behalf of reaper dude? when the rat is running through the weird warehouse reaper dude is running around in there too and the rat goes invisible when he's nearby, as if he doesn't want reaper dude to see him?
also, nearly the whole setting of the music video is shown in the down-panning shot at the beginning. the rat's little chill spot in the foreground, then the forest, then the mushroom guy's big moon in the background. the interdimensional warehouse and the rpg maker scene they travel into from it aren't shown, and getting out of the rpg maker scene and into the forest is where mushroom guy loses the scent and has to chill with the snails for a while. could be something? idk. then he chases the rat through the forest, getting so obsessed with getting closer and closer that by the time he catches him he's actually not in the forest anymore, he's in the rat's domain from before in the foreground, and then he has a bad time in the hourglass.
i also noticed that the mushroom guy's mushroom and hat change colors a couple times. for most of the video he's a red mushroom with a blue hat, in the snails scene he's a green mushroom with a purple hat, and when he catches the rat he's switched to being a blue mushroom with a red hat and that's how he spends the rest of the video. literally no clue if that means anything at all (probably not) but i wonder
