@SalvoG THIS is just one of their many many hits over their 40+ year career! The movie this was in was a blockbuster and won awards too including some for their music. Welcome to the wonderful world of NO AUTO TUNE BABY! Isn't is awesome? Exactly how you head them here IS exactly how quite a few of my friends heard them in concert cuz they were able to score tickets! They used to sellout within minutes! They were constantly adding show's at the Nassau Coliseum and also Madison Square Garden. I live like 10 minutes away from the Coliseum IF you drive slowly 😂 So if you couldn't get tickets over there? Within the week, level was playing would be at Madison Square Garden. The Garden is like an hour and 15 minute ride on the LIRR away. Believe me~any concert nights going to or out of NYC? Those train were like open bar cars! It was a lotta fun! We'd just walk in there with cases of beer & bottles in our jackets and none of the conductor said anything. IF anything they well just like hey you guys going to a concert tonight? Who's playing? 😂#NYGenXBIKERLady
Barry is the oldest. Andy was the youngest. He died when he was thirty. Robin and Maurice were twins and I saw a documentary that said they just knew when to put their voices in a song at different times. Maurice died in 2003 and Robin in 2012. Barry is the last one left. I saw a documentary that said Andy and Barry were like twins down to birthmarks. I am so glad I grew up in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s best music ever.
Three of my other favorite songs by the Bee Gees are "Jive Talkin'", "Too Much Heaven" and "Nights On Broadway". But this one here is my all time fave!!
They recorded this in the mid seventies, long before autotune. They performed it on stage, too. No pauses, for sure. I read a comment somewhere that it takes unshakeable self confidence to sing a line like, "Well you can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a woman's man no time to talk!" In a relentless falsetto like theirs. They sing three part harmony in falsetto, a remarkable achievement. But they can sing in regular voices, too. Most of their early records aren't in falsetto. And oh yeah, Saurday Night Fever was a huge hit, and the songs from it were everywhere. The Bee Gees wrote all their own music, including the hits from this movie.
I grew up listening to the them, they are beyond amazing musicians, Barry wrote a song and performed with Barbara Streisand, they wrote Islands in the Stream performed by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, they wrote and produced for Diana Ross with Michael Jackson, they wrote for Dionne Warwick and many others. They are a real phenomenon, unfortunately only Barry is still with us! However all 3 brothers have talented children!
The song is even better when it's played over John Travolta walking in New York, swinging his butt side to side. You owe it to yourself to watch his movies, Saturday Night Fever and Staying Alive.
Now THAT was a very thoughtful reaction -- love the way you took the time to do some research about the group before playing the song. I think you are going to really enjoy discovering their music -- the Bee Gees were phenomenal!
Love the BeeGees. You have to see John Travolta walking and dancing to this. Gives it a whole different perspective. Great song choice, thanks for this one!
Bee Gees were golden but John Travolta singing and strutting his way through Saturday Night Live to this is one of the best memories of that time! Of course Grease and Urban Cowboy are right up there too! Not to mention that most CPR classes have staying alive as the soundtrack to help people to literally "stay alive!"!
These men were the biggest thing back in the day.. you heard their music on the radio constantly hit after hit.. enjoyed your reaction.. can't wait for you to go down this rabbit hole.
"Stayin' Alive" has a tempo of 103 beats per minute (bpm). The best compression rate for hands-only CPR is 100-120 bpm. New York-Presbyterian Hospital advises those administering hands-only CPR to compress the chest in time with this song.
Related fun fact: the other song they say to use is Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. So you have two songs to use while trying to save someone’s life. One that tells you to stay alive, and the other that says you bit the dust. 😆
Began in 1958 and had a 40+ year career. At one time they had 5 hits in the top ten simultaneously. One of the bestselling groups of all time. Wrote more than 1,000 songs including hits for other artists. Barry Gibb, the oldest brother, is the only one still alive but he's still producing music, composing and performing. The loss of his 3 younger brothers has been devastating to him. So talented and known for their tight and beautiful harmonies. They all had falsetto voices in their musical abilities but Barry's was exceptional. Check out "Nobody Get's Too Much Heaven"!
Permission to Bee Gee the hell out of us. We love them. 1967 was their beginnings on the charts. Their album Bee Gee's 1st would be great to do to get you rooted in where they came from.
New subscriber here! You can’t go wrong with a Bee Gees song. Enjoy exploring the rabbit hole. It’s a deep one! Please react to their “Fanny, Be Tender” (a masterpiece), “Nights on Broadway”, “Night Fever” (HUGE hit from Saturday Night Fever), “Jive Talkin’”….I could go on and on. ❤
Barry Gibb was the heartthrob in the group but he has been married to his wife, Linda, for more than 50 years! He was already married to her for 7 years at the time this song came out.
You should hear some of their early stuff, like "I Started a Joke" "Massachusetts," "Words," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," "New York Mining Disaster 1941." Totally different than their disco years.
To Love Somebody...a fav BeeGees and all time favorite song list for me. Has a poignant meaning for me now that my sweet husband has passed. 😪 Listen to Keith Urban sing it to Sir Barry Gibb in a tribute concert. Chills and tears. At end Keith says 'God bless you Barry Gibb.' We all feel that way. By the way, Barry cried.
This played in every disco on repeat. The whole soundtrack did. I don’t care what people say about the disco era…I loved it! I worked all week then danced Friday and Saturday nights. It was so much fun! Me and my friends had a blast!
Listen to TOO MUCH HEAVEN, you’ll see their ability to harmonize and Barry’s falsetto is out of this world. Robin and Maurice could also sing beautifully in falsetto as you’ll se in Too MUCH HEAVEN. you’ll see that they’re in a class all their own. ❤❤❤
The Bee Gees essentially wrote and composed the entire soundtrack to the movie in a weekend and submitted the demos a few days later. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack had 4 or 5 #1 hits on it and is one of the top 10 best selling albums of all time. Disco was big before the Bee Gees but they absolutely turbo charged Disco. The Bee Gees however were soooo much more than a Disco band. Their catalogue is deep and worth every minute of it. They were one of the biggest bands of all time. Pop. Soul. Ballads. Disco. They did it all.
I know young people are missing out on stuff from 45 years ago but there’s no way he hasn’t heard this. At least in passing. I hope your life just got better Salvo! You are right, this was one of the biggest hits of all time. Check out Too Much Heaven next.
Before listening to 'Too Much Heaven', keep in mind that they signed away ALL royalties to that song, in perpetuity, to UNICEF. Haven't seen a recent total, but it was already in double digit millions a number of years ago.
The movie was fantastic. Will always picture John Travolta strutting when I hear this song. So many Bee Gees hits. The live performance of Too Much Heaven will grace you with the most beautiful harmonies ever.
It is so hard to imagine a time when everyone doesn't know who the Bee Gees are! They were the background music of my life. I can't recall just how many times I went to the theater to see Saturday Night Fever, but it was more than a few!
Nothing speaks about the 70s like the Bee Gees and like Staying a live, both this song and Saturday night fever are iconic, the Too much heaven is my favorite of them, but they have soo many number 1 hits.
The Bee Gees made the movie a big hit. And they write/wrote all their own songs; and none of them could read or write music! I don't think the movie would have been half as good without the Bee Gee's soundtrack. They had a younger brother, Andy, who was going to be the 4th Bee Gee, but he passed away at the age of 30. Maurice pronounced his name "Morris". React to "Too Much Heaven" Live. RIP Andy, Maurice & Robin. We sure miss ya. xxx
Barry’s signature falsetto originated in the studio when producer Arif Mardin asked if any of the Bee Gees could scream in falsetto. They were recording ad libs and background vocals for their hit “Nights On Broadway” which was on their Main Course album. Mardin was absolutely stunned at the power of Barry’s falsetto. Barry later said “My whole life, I didn’t know I could do this.”
Yes, this is Barry, the oldest brother (and the only one still alive), listed as the best falsetto, but I love also his chest voice. The falsetto songs (era) are only a small part of their songs (they wrote more than 1000 and over 100 top 10 songs). "The subject matter of 'Stayin' Alive' is actually quite a serious one; It's about survival in the streets of New York, and the lyrics actually say that". "Fun" fact:„At 103 BPM (beats per minute), "Stayin' Alive" corresponds to the recommended heart rate for cardiac massage and is well suited as a memory aid because of its popularity and the appropriate title
The movie "Saturday Night Fever" was a HUGE hit! It pretty much launched the Disco movement into existence. The brothers Gibb wrote and performed the entire soundtrack. Check it out; get your girl out on the dance floor!
Best group EVER!! The discos and roller rinks were hopping when anything by the Bee Gee's or their little brother Andy Gibb came on. MORE, MORE, MORE!!!
OMG, I was shocked when you hadn't heard any Stone's songs but Bee Gees? You're in for quite a ride. How Deep Is Your Love is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. Love You Inside and Out is so funky, the video of Too Much Heaven will leave you gasping, To Love Somebody, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, and Run to Me are classics covered by many many artists. Jive Talkin, Nights on Broadway, Fanny (Be Tender With My Love, You Should be Dancing, Night Fever, Tragedy and More Than A Woman are all must-hears. Get ready to be amazed!
@@kmach1000 I know right? But to be honest, I couldn't name a single Guns and Roses song because they just weren't a band I was interested in at the time. Sal wasn't even born when these songs came out, at least he has an excuse! 😗
I agree that How Deep Is Your Love is one of the most beautiful songs ever! The melody, the singing, the lyrics were just perfection. The song sounds like it's exploding with all love sparkles and sprinkles.
The Bee Gees were simply fabulous. You ought to listen to Barry with Streisand singing “What Kind of Fool” And “Guilty.” You won’t believe how great their voices blend.
Wow! Welcome to the world of the BeeGees :). The official video for You Should be Dancing HAS to be next. Funky fun song - and you get to check out John Travolta's KILLER dances moves. Followed by Too Much Heaven and How Deep is Your Love. Enjoy the ride and the rabbit hole. Cheers from Canada!
The best group ever. I have been privileged to have listened to them all my life. I love them and their songs. They have so much talent you will see if you do more reactions.
Congratulations! You just took the first step into the amazing world of the Bee Gees. You got so much ahead of you, you don't even know. I envy you! By the way, Barry Gibb is so beloved, two years ago at age 74, he released a new album and it went to #1 in England! (and #15 here)
This is about the time artful dance began again. I love watching those who participated in "swing". They were really acrobats. This was the invitation to begin the art again ... I wish more had followed.
All the BeeGees songs are so well written. In 1978 the BeeGees dominated the airwaves. For weeks they, their brother Andy, Emotion and their label RSO held the entire top 10 hostage. It was crazy and everyone went to the disco to dance!
The Bee Gees were/are amazing. I was lucky enough to see Barry do a solo show in Boston after his brother's died. The crowd wouldn't let him leave the stage. We cheered, clapped, and cried the whole night--and so did he! What a memorable evening.
I really enjoyed your reaction to “Staying Alive!” I am 79 years old, and can remember when this song came out. The movie used the song, and it became a symbol of the Age of Disco! Glad you liked it!
Ohhhh! Bee Gees! So amazing! I saw them live in the 70s - the main disco song they had at that time was Nights On Broadway! So they performed a lot of their older stuff & it was awesome! Barry in a jump suit singing "Words"? Sigh.... 😵💫
Yes! The BeeGees always had it going on. I am a nurse's aid, and one year when I went to have my CPR license renewed the class that I went to used their song "Stayin Alive". Being the big fan that I was I was simply blown away that the instructor had decided to use this song to keep time with doing the chest compressions. The fantastic beat was perfect to use to keep time with the compressions. Thank you Thank you SalvoG for sharing so many great memories of the BeeGees. They will always remain in my heart with much fondness and love.
Saturday Night Live and the soundtrack, mostly by the Bee Gees, was like a Supernova across the world. Cannot describe how massive and influential it was and even though John Travolta became a superstar because of this movie it was the MUSIC that made it so great.
Now that we are going down the BeeGees rabbit hole, here are a few you should react to. Love So Right, The Only Love, Fanny Be Tender With My Love, Happy Ever After, Wedding Day, Alone, and One. That will be a good start.
haha - love to be on this music journey u are exploring ! great reactions salvoG- i know all of these ! glad to be a part of it ! much love to u and urs
Hi Salvo, yes Saturday Night Fever was a hit movie and this album was fire. The BeeGees (Brothers Gibb) are a humongous multi decade rabbit hole. There are many styles and sounds as they progressed from the early Australian days to the last days. Barry is the surviving brother. Enjoy the journey! I’m sure you’re inundated with requests by now. I’ll second or add How Deep Is Your Love.
And yes. “That movie” was a giant hit. Between the movie and this song, Disco (which at the time was considered on its last legs) was suddenly given second life. And remained relevant for probably another three years as a musical genre.
One of the best reactions to this song I've seen! (the constant beat you mentioned is what you can sing to yourself when doing CPR. True!) This movie was epic when it came out. John Travolta had the moves, the Bee Gees had the songs, 1970's gritty NYC...what more can one want? Fun times!
Yeah, I am 64, I was there, and yes this song and the rest of their music was everywhere! The movie and the album were perfectly marketed and released. It had never been done like that before. All that talent seemed to be laying dormant for years, and then suddenly out of nowhere took us over like a storm.
Great reaction. This song is apparently played every 20 seconds globally. They had 100 top 10 hits over the years. Welcome to the global superstarsom of the Bee Gees
Haha I had to pause this reaction just to ask if you were about to crack up at the very beginning of that video. Because you looked like you were holding it in. Lol that old video is hilarious. They weren’t cheesy at the time but looking back now it’s kinda funny. But, you cannot deny the talent of The Bee Gees. SO good!! You have a whole new awesome world to discover here.
If you enjoy this reaction, make sure you subscribe for more BeeGees and content like this!

I agree that How Deep Is Your Love is one of the most beautiful songs ever! The melody, the singing, the lyrics were just perfection. The song sounds like it's exploding with all love sparkles and sprinkles.
@@ohfour-seven6228 Well, I can't name a single song by current bands like... like... well... thats it!🤭
Yes, he has a good excuse! ;))
@@kmach1000 👍
Great Band! Great Track! Great Reaction!!!! Thank You so Much ✌
The Bee Gees were simply fabulous. You ought to listen to Barry with Streisand singing “What Kind of Fool” And “Guilty.” You won’t believe how great their voices blend.
I'll second that..... Barry & Barbra in her backyard concert singing those 2 duets is absolutely the best: ruclips.net/video/qHEFZxTkNyQ/видео.html
It was written for the movie Saturday Night Fever.. This song was a HUGE hit! I was a teen at the time and was in love with Barry
Loved dancing to this in NYC DISCOS!! Nothing like it!! ❤
Congratulations! You just took the first step into the amazing world of the Bee Gees. You got so much ahead of you, you don't even know. I envy you! By the way, Barry Gibb is so beloved, two years ago at age 74, he released a new album and it went to #1 in England! (and #15 here)
This was a huge hit back in the late 70's. Saturday Night Fever is a good movie and the soundtrack is amazing!
This is about the time artful dance began again. I love watching those who participated in "swing". They were really acrobats. This was the invitation to begin the art again ... I wish more had followed.
This is famous for using it to do CPR. The beat is perfect for compressions. The name is very apropos.
All the BeeGees songs are so well written. In 1978 the BeeGees dominated the airwaves. For weeks they, their brother Andy, Emotion and their label RSO held the entire top 10 hostage. It was crazy and everyone went to the disco to dance!
Can't believe you've gone this long without the magic of the BeeGees!?!?!
You never stopped it!!!! Good sign! Glad you enjoyed it - major memories...thanks!
The Bee Gees were/are amazing. I was lucky enough to see Barry do a solo show in Boston after his brother's died. The crowd wouldn't let him leave the stage. We cheered, clapped, and cried the whole night--and so did he! What a memorable evening.
I live in boston. Where was he?
Great 70's song!
All the girls back then wanted hair like Farrah Fawcett, and all the young guys wanted hair like Barry Gibb. lol.
They teach CPR to this song. It has they exact beat that is needed to do CPR correctly.
They also wrote the music for the movie "Grease".
Just the title song -- "Grease (Is the Word"). Barry wrote it.
I really enjoyed your reaction to “Staying Alive!” I am 79 years old, and can remember when this song came out. The movie used the song, and it became a symbol of the Age of Disco! Glad you liked it!
SalvoG....you must listen to Bee Gees, Fanny be tender with my love.!!
Ohhhh! Bee Gees!
Ahhh The Bee Gees! It started with Spicks and Specks and never stopped!! Amazing harmony and songs!! ❤
Now that we are going down the BeeGees rabbit hole, here are a few you should react to. Love So Right, The Only Love, Fanny Be Tender With My Love, Happy Ever After, Wedding Day, Alone, and One. That will be a good start.
Those falsettos are pure Gold!!
I envy that!! Can't reach those notes
Keep going down the Bee Gees rabbit hole. You won't be disappointed.
You’ll really appreciate Too Much Heaven by The Bee Gees. I’d love to see you react to that. They were just amazing!!!
haha - love to be on this music journey u are exploring ! great reactions salvoG- i know all of these ! glad to be a part of it ! much love to u and urs
LEGENDS ❤
Great reaction.
Do us and youself a favor, please more of them.
They got even much better songs.....:)
A couple good pre disco songs are I Started A Joke, Massachusetts and To Love Somebody.
And yes. “That movie” was a giant hit. Between the movie and this song, Disco (which at the time was considered on its last legs) was suddenly given second life. And remained relevant for probably another three years as a musical genre.
OOO. You haven't seen Too Much Heaven? You will LOVE it.
This song IS the definition of Disco 🕺🏽
It’s so funky and fun 🤩
The best part is the rhythm of this song perfectly coincides to the chest pump counting in CPR. Staying Alive indeed!
JIVE TALKIN' !!!!
Love them. They were so great. Best music to roller skate to! May Jesus continue to bless you and your family
One of the best reactions to this song I've seen! (the constant beat you mentioned is what you can sing to yourself when doing CPR. True!) This movie was epic when it came out. John Travolta had the moves, the Bee Gees had the songs, 1970's gritty NYC...what more can one want? Fun times!
It's the opening credits song from the film Saturday Night Fevet.
Bee Gees brothers was my great no.1 band from all their early ages to now.❤❤❤
I remember they were on the radio big time in the 70s and 80s … thanks for sharing, gave a Sub and a Like!
Best harmonizing group ever. Luv luv luv their music!
Great reaction to one of the best selling groups of all time. Saturday Night Fever was a smash hit, and Travolta was great in it. Love The Bee Gees!
