I was never a big Disco fan, but the Bee Gees were one of the few bands that did it in a classy way. Even hard rockers will confess to having a sneaky foot-tap to their songs!!
You ‘youngsters’ make me smile… growing up in the 60s and 70s - we had such GREAT music, and sadly, we often took it for granted!! It’s SO MUCH fun watching you all hear it for the first time. This was our ‘disco’ phase.. but The Bee Gees go WAY beyond this! They wrote great music, hit after hit, recorded much of it themselves, but also wrote for others. It’s a huge rabbit hole.. that you’ll enjoy going down!!
And all that great music we grew up listening to got lost and what is out there today, I just can't call it music. The 60s,70s and 80s was great stuff.
Yep, we didn't realize how good we had it with music back in the 70's and 80's, it started to go downhill from the 90's onwards and now music pales in comparison to what it used to be and the funny thing is, just like you, we took it for granted.

Imagine creating the most powerful song to save the most life.. For those who doesn’t know: No pulse from either wrist or neck AND don’t hear breath: Human heart is of LEFT side (9 o’clock) 1. Lay person on their back. 2. Feel fingers for bottom left rib and towards middle of a human. 3. Point 4 fingers upwards. 4. And 4 fingers towards left (Hopefully imagine where the heart could be) and pump to the rhythm of ‘STAYING ALIVE’

This song was recorded with 100 beats per minute which 100 chest compressions per minute are required in CPR and the song will give you something to go by. Genius.
Lyrics explained by the Bee Gees: Robin recalls, "The subject matter of 'Stayin' Alive' is actually quite a serious one; It's about survival in the streets of New York, and the lyrics actually say that". Barry Gibb also recalls, "People crying out for help. Desperate songs.Everybody struggles against the world, fighting all the bullshit and things that can drag you down. And it really is a victory just to survive.

This is crazy how many people are shocked by this.. I guess I was born at the perfect time. Born 75, as a black man, my parents hand all their music to listen to, due to my parents. So seeing this I am laughing so much. But its good seeing young folks enjoy this. The Bee Gees have so many great songs.
Try their song Too Much Heaven - just absolutely beautiful. Another one you cannot help moving to is Jive Talking. I love watching the younger generation discover this great music.
This song changed my life, for better or for worse. The Brothers Gibb took a lot of flack for their disco era but I think enough time has gone by that we can all agree they were f-ing awesome.
Barry Gibb was blessed by the gods, man. Not only a prolific hit-making songwriter and great singer, but one of the best-looking men who ever walked the planet.
They certainly DID exist for 50 years since they were little kids and are always rated among the top 5 selling artists of all time. This "disco" era is the one most people know but they could write and sing any style. All three were amazing singers and all three composed their songs including big hit songs for other big stars.
Love that you appreciate them so much. Way before autotune. Raw talent of 3 brothers who wrote and sang their own songs! Grew up with them. Favorite to this day (and I’m 70!)
I'm Latvian, and in 1977/78 I attended the only Latvian high school outside of the Soviet Union (Latvia was occupied at the time). A friend of mine and I spent hours trying to decipher the lyrics of this song.

New reactor to Bee Gees? They are a class of it's own, just a level by themselves where nobody else is to find! Some facts about that song: Sold over 30 million copies worldwide and in 2018, 'Staying Alive' passed by 'Yesterday' from the Beatles, which was recorded over 10 years earlier by having the most airplays over the planet. Well and you didn't know anything about Bee Gees. I can tellya why: That's because medias often tried to put them out of the game and so called musicexperts didn't realise how extremely good they were. Wrote them down. The truth is, they are just in a row with Elvis, Bob Dylan, Beatles, Stones, Michael Jackson or Bruce Springsteen. Nothing beyond, but maybe above for many musiclisteners like me! So go on, checkin' them out and start with 'Tragedy' and then go to some of their earlier stuff like 'Lonely Days' and 'I've Gotta Get A Message To You'.
The one doing the high voice, in the middle, is the only one still alive. There was 4 brothers. All there songs are great. Your reaction was great. You can’t help but move your body when you listen to The Bee Gees. Awesome. 🎼🦋🎵♥️🎶👏👏
Just so no one misunderstands, the 4th brother, Andy, was not a Bee Gee. Brothers Barry, Robin & Maurice started performing in 1955 & took the name BGs/Bee Gee's in 1958 (Andy’s birth year). By the time Andy was 10, his brothers were already internationally known. They were all very supportive of Andy’s solo career. Barry wrote, co-produced & sang back-up on Andy’s 1st #1 hit, I Just Want To Be Your Everything. Shadow Dancing, also a #1, was written by all 4 brothers (again Barry sang back up & co-produced). Sadly, Andy’s mental health issues, cocaine & alcohol addiction, took a terrible toll on his health & career (he was dropped by his label), but his brothers kept trying to help (professionally & personally). Early 1988, they announced he would become a Bee Gee (beginning with their next album & 1989 tour), but he died before that could happen (March 10, 1988, age 30, of myocarditis).
@Almost Average We can agree to disagree. I am related to several people who hate music and would only not sis still if they heard a funeral dirge, and then only to prove it was not thier funeral. My parents hate music in general and would call the cops if they hear music that is loud enough to bother them. I grew up listening to music on headphones because they hate music so I can only "dance like no one is watching" when they aren't watching.
Everyone seems to do the disco era of the Bee Gees but they are so much more than that. I grew up with this great group. Love their early music especially 60's-70's. Some of their early hits were "Spicks & Specks", "New York Mining Disaster 1941", "To Love Somebody", "Holiday", "Massachusetts", "World", "And The Sun Will Shine", "Really & Sincerely", "Words", "The Singer Sang His Song", "I've Gotta Get A Message To You", "Lonely Days", "I Started A Joke", "Melody Fair", "First of May", "Give Your Best", "Lamplight" etc.
The Bee Gees were my all time favorite group for decades (now it’s Home Free). Pre-disco is epic, and post-disco is better than the disco era IMO. They did define disco, though.
@@jeffhensley6929 I do like all the Bee Gees stuff even their disco, just prefer the earlier songs. I still listen to a lot of classic rock as I grew up with it. But Home Free are my go to group now a days too.
The beat is "DISCO!" In the late 1970s Disco was the ultimate dancing music and entire clubs all over the country were dedicated to Disco. That whole Disco scene was shown in "Saturday Night Fever" with John Travolta. As a matter of fact, this song was used at the beginning of the movie when the credits were rolling.
I'm 74 years old, this was MY generation's music. Your right, no matter where we were, or what we were doing, we heard this beat, you gotta MOVE!!!! Brings back sooo many memories!
You MUST react to "You Should Be Dancing", one of the great bangers of all time. The Bee Gees always ended their concerts with this song. I dare you to sit still while listening to this- no way that happens. Facts!
Music was real back in the day. No auto correct. No computer generated sound effects. Real voices that were recorded and played as they really sound. Alive. The voices were STAYING ALIVE.
Boomer here~ Imagine this, life where this was the level of music we heard 24/7. Life was so much easier then, enjoyable, fun. When you hear boomers talking about the 70s... THIS is what we are talking about. This music represented our lives, who we were, how we lived. Life was good way back when, I don't know what happened but it sure made a turn for the worse. We used to get along so well, not a lot of hate and bigotry. But, life changes with each generation and what we have today...I suppose we are stuck with it.
I always loved these guys, my favorite song from them is "You Win Again" Three brothers singing together and taking the world by storm. Unfortunately Robin and Maurice have died . Their younger brother Andy was also a singer but died young. Only Barry left.
When I did my first aid training I was taught to use this song as the beat to do CPR, as is the perfect timing for chest compressions. Love this song being used to literally keep people alive! 😁
I grew up listening to the Bee Gees, & you have no idea how happy it makes me, to see the younger generation discover the music we fell in love with !!! All three brothers had amazing falsetto's, powerful chest voices, & could sing anything in between. They truly were a once in a lifetime gift of musical genius, in every aspect! Please review more of their music, you will not be disappointed. They span over many decades, & crossed quite a few genres. I believe, that if there is music in Heaven, it would sound like the Bee Gee's ❤❤
The movie "Saturday Night Fever" with John Travolta is of course a classic. Listen to the other great songs from this album, "Night Fever (my favorite from the album)", "More Than A Woman", and "If I Can't Have You", all written by The BeeGee's.
I was going to suggest the same. So lucky to have been a teenager in the 70s. Real music No auto tune You either could sing or you couldn’t. No where to hide
One of the best soundtracks! If you like dancing - disco from around 1980 you need two albums: Micheal Jackson's 'Thriller' and the soundtrack for 'Saturday Night Fever'. After that you can build up the rest of your collection. Neither of them will ever be outdated. (A tip about a forgotten third, and fourth, album: Noel, 'Is There More To Life Than Dancing?', with 'Dancing Is Dangerous', 1979. Written and produced by Sparks; the brothers Ron and Russell Mael. They made an amazing album, 'No. 1 In Heaven', produced by Giorgio Moroder, just before they took on Noel. A lot of what they learned from Moroder they brought with them to Noel's album.)
"Reaching out" is missing, I think it's the most beautiful song they have written, another ones are "Fanny, be tender with my love" and "Nights on Broadway".
I saw the BeeGees in concert at the St Paul Civic Center on July 21, 1979, exactly 43 years ago today, the day I just happened to watch your reaction of "Stayin' Alive." I had forgotten the date, and looked it up. Crazy coincidence. They had such a great Set List of songs, all the hits and more. It was totally awesome!
The beautiful thing about them is that their music is perpetually being discovered by new fans. As long as there are those that enjoy their music, those three will live on forever.
Most airplayed song around the globus - every 20 seconds - this plays everywhere around the world and for sure it is the most iconic song of the 70´s decade. It’s an indelible cultural hallmark. None of that happens if that opening scene, is set to any song other than “Stayin’ Alive.Fifth best selling single of all time with 31 million epic sales. I can’t imagine one single production tweak that could make “Stayin’ Alive” work better. Everything is exactly where it should be. “Stayin’ Alive” is one of those songs that sounds like it’s always existed. It’s crazy to think that human beings had to make it up out of nothing. It’s a part of our shared cultural heritage now - one of those pop miracles that just never gets old, never wears off, never loses its charge. It remains alive. And indeed one of the most covered pop songs in history
Perfectly said. It really is perfect. I was 11 when this came out, and, despite having the album and the DJs all playing it constantly, it NEVER got old. Instead, it was exhilarating when it came on the radio. It still is.
You are right, it makes you move!!!Loved watching you see this. There's so much great music from the Bee Gee's. So many millions of people love them all age's. They were a gift to Remember. Their music will live on thru all eternity.

"Reaching out" is missing, I think it's the most beautiful song they have written, another ones are "Fanny, be tender with my love" and "Nights on Broadway".
Shout out from Nordic, Finland; Bee Gees is classic early (non American) kind of Disco and still such a vibe and it works.
I think it’s called musical talent.
They were an amazing group. Unfortunately only Barry is left. It's hysterical watching younger people discovering the music 🎶 I grew up with.
It’s my new favorite YT entertainment. 😆😆😆
The beautiful thing about them is that their music is perpetually being discovered by new fans. As long as there are those that enjoy their music, those three will live on forever.
I know, right?
That smile says it all! The Bee Gees were the greatest ever! Their music touches your heart and soul!! You'll go down the rabbit hole!
Oh yeah! Gotta dance!
This is back in the day when singers actually had singing talent. Memories of Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta.
Barry Gibb (The one in the middle) is the only one still around. He's stayin' alive.
whether your a brother or whether your a mother, staying alive
'You Win Again' is one of my favourite Bee Gees tracks. Don't hear it very often
The Bee Gees are one of the greatest all time groups, writing all their own songs and other peoples songs too.
Loved your reaction! These guys were crazy talented. Go down this rabbit hole!
Please go down the rabbit hole of the Brothers Gibb
You are right, it makes you move!!!Loved watching you see this. There's so much great music from the Bee Gee's. So many millions of people love them all age's. They were a gift to Remember. Their music will live on thru all eternity.
