Everything about this GBC both inside and out looks like it could have been produced by an established product company with significant resources backing the project. This really is the golden age for DIY makers. Incredible.
I am both impressed and appalled he didn't use a solder paste stencil. Either way, this is some of the highest quality craftmanship I have seen on youtube.
This is a hobby I wish I could get into because it's absolutely incredible to see people create stuff like this. I tried to get into very basic electronic repair jobs but I never was able to commit to it. I crochet instead to get out my creativity, but seeing this makes me really jealous.
The fact you were able to accomplish something so incredible without the hands of a surgeon should inspire others who use "shaky hands" as an excuse. Far too common a reason for people to fear soldering. Great work!
You did an incredible job, and this is one of my favorite custom GameBoy Color builds I've seen. Sure, headphone jack would be great, but the places where I'd want to play a tiny game boy color are usually places where I wouldn't expect to be wearing headphones with it. Great work!
Thank you for creating such a beautiful device. I would love to see how you would envision the GBA in this same style. A modern vertical micro could be interesting
This is an amazing gbc mod you build there! The form factor is really cute. I like it very much. I wish there's a ready to play mod version already right out of the box to purchase.
Stunning, I can't imagine how happy you must be with the finished product. If there was ever a comment to make, I'd say having a rounded back makes the original GBC relatively comfortable to hold even with adult hands (much more so than the SP or pocket). It would be a nice design touch to have it carried over in a scaled down version even if it doesn't make it all that much more ergonomic to hold (given its size).
hand-soldering a plastic FPC connector when I usually worry I'll break it just taking ribbons on and off them, incredible stuff. easily production-quality from design to finish. congrats!
You continue to amaze me with your ingenuity and creativity. I will never stop loving how this community reinvents this platform in new and exciting ways! Thanks again for sharing this with the world!!
First, I'm a fan of how you address reasonable questions (how do you make it smaller) with even more reasonable responses. Second, I'm impressed with the precision and fit of your designs. Definitely earned a sub, keep it up man.
Squeezing out every millimetre on the pcb to get things in... you still managed to bulldoze in that bloody volume knob to the front..! 😅 I give up with that thing now! 😂 👏🏻
Getting all those little tiny electronic pieces on the PCB and making it all work is incredible. If you don’t understand it, technology is literally magic.
This is sick. I admittedly have zero electrical engineering expertise, but I had no idea people could just design custom PCBs like this that work with commercial CPUs.
you should be very proud man wow the extent of your knowledge to make this solo from scratch amazes me. I love how the first pcb was ordered in purple gotta love the confidence lol. Cant wait to see what you come up with next.
So incredibly cool. As an Industrial Designer this is the kind of product I want to see. Congratulations on your accomplishment from all your hard work!
I’d say replace the wheel with a volume control on the side, give it an SD and ability to emulate and build a GBA abilities and it’s be perfect! Great job. It came out amazing!
I love it's so beautiful 🥰 I like this mod specifically cuz it kinda retains the idea of the Gameboy. As small, portable and simple as possible so it's accessible to most people no matter their economy, and full of fun games!! I also want to compliment your design, if I had grown up with this instead of the Gameboy color it could clearly be my favorite :)
Awesome work on these gameboy projects. I found you because of your work on a Mega Man II PCB replacement, and used that same schematic to fix a copy of Mega Man III because it's the same layout. I ordered through JLCPCB instead of PCBWAY so the I did have to change a few things during the order process like the thickness, but thanks you some other GB cartridges get to live for a few more decades.
This is inspiring! I very recently decided I want to start learning how to design my own PCBs. My goal is to eventually reach the level of detail and refinement that you’ve achieved here! Fantastic work! My first project, which will probably take a long while, will be the GBA. I plan to try and design a PCB which will hold the GBA’s CPU, RAM, and other default connectors, along with the circuitry for the USB-C battery, and the components for HDMI output through the same USB-C connector used for charging so it can be docked like a switch. I already verified this concept works, because I just successfully combined FunnyPlaying’s Modded GBA motherboard with HispeedIdo’s HDMI Docking kit. And it works. Except for sleep mode; the screen stays on, for some reason. But everything else works. Now I just have to teach myself how to do everything you did in this video. But life’s no fun if I’m not learning something new! I can’t wait to try this GBC mod you’ve masterfully done, and hopefully one day you’ll see what I create from what you’ve inspired. Cheers!
This is absolutely amazing 😍 I want to make my own GBC with a ESP32 and seeing your design, makes me want to make it even smaller!! Just amazing ❤ congratulations 👏👏👏
Seeing your hands shake during final assembly makes me super anxious., mostly because it makes me feel how hard it is to make everything line up when my hands are shaking too. Other than that, though, lovely build, and thank you for sharing your process! I'd love to see a headphone jack in a future revision even if it's just mono.
Came for the Nintendo Stayed for the Jazz Great Musical taste haha. But also, good content. Congrats on the acomplishment! Console seems great, a little disconfortable (maybe a TAD too small), but awesome overall.
Pffff, this is just ridiculous. Absolutely insane end result. I mod gameboys and have done loads, used and love your power regulators (why no more etsy store?) but this is a level too far for me. I desperately want one though so hopefully someone will make some to sell as id pay a pretty penny for one of these, and the frog boy too tbh. Congrats man this is genuinely a special piece of work you should be so proud of.
I don't have any notes. The whole design, presentation, and final product was exactly what it is. Headphone jack? Meh, I like that you got mixed stereo-out-of-a-single-speaker!
beautiful work, hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I'm surprised with how amazing your soldering job is considering your hands are a bit shaky, it was actually quite comforting to see that because I'm afraid of soldering small things due to my shaky hands and poor coordination
something something grump grump audio wheel /s cool vid. my hands are way too big for the results of this project. heck, they're too big for an original gbc. but it's pretty darn neat.
I don't understand the volume wheel hate, something so unique as this only benefits from something distinguishing like that. Can't wait to get the parts to work on my own.
That exactly the project I was like "WHY NOBODY DO THAT". I saw those shells for GBA SP which was looking like GBC but with the main problem of GBA SP : the cartridges protrude from the gameboy. GG WP
I really appreciate you didnt just make an emulator and made it able to play actual cartridges
The shaking hands give the unintended side effect of convincing me that I could probably pull this off if I was dedicated enough. 😂 10/10
i was thinking the same thing
Everything about this GBC both inside and out looks like it could have been produced by an established product company with significant resources backing the project. This really is the golden age for DIY makers. Incredible.
Indistinguishable from a commercial product. That is some fine work.
I am both impressed and appalled he didn't use a solder paste stencil. Either way, this is some of the highest quality craftmanship I have seen on youtube.
Came here to say this - I had absolutely no idea one could splash solder paste all over the place and still come up with such a clean outcome!
the custom pcb build is so next level
quality looks insane
This is a hobby I wish I could get into because it's absolutely incredible to see people create stuff like this. I tried to get into very basic electronic repair jobs but I never was able to commit to it. I crochet instead to get out my creativity, but seeing this makes me really jealous.
whaaaa!? this video is amazing! 🐸

dude that some dedication, most people just cut down boards like pigs, while you created a whole new pcb
it'll never stop amazing me how insanely smart the people in this community are
Thank you for creating such a beautiful device. I would love to see how you would envision the GBA in this same style. A modern vertical micro could be interesting
Duuuuuudeeee I’m obsessed with this!!! I love the design. The volume wheel is the coolest
This is an amazing gbc mod you build there! The form factor is really cute. I like it very much. I wish there's a ready to play mod version already right out of the box to purchase.
“Because I don’t have to other people without friends compla-“ has me rolling brother 😂 so true

Amazing accomplishment, Good job dude. Love it!
the mod is really a masterpiece, congrats! and the video is super fun too, thank you for taking us through the design process!
This is wildly impressive to build this yourself and then make it available to everyone… mad respect and appreciation towards all your work 🙏

Hand cramps are secondary special feature 🎉😮😂🤣😸
honestly these types of things excel at playing old pokemon games one handed. i wouldn't want to play mario world on it though.
@@vinnieb977 yes guess "Super Mario Land2 and the 6 golden coins" would be nice on it but yes a definitely risk for hand cramps 😔

Hell yeah fam thing is too crazy 🐸
This having no likes is crazy
this is actually so impressive, incredible finish and beautiful end product AND files shared for DIYers?! you're a good egg
This is sick. I admittedly have zero electrical engineering expertise, but I had no idea people could just design custom PCBs like this that work with commercial CPUs.
17:40 crazy that the cpu produces so little heat that you can put the battery on it
I absolutely love this! I just bought an Analogue Pocket a month ago so I’m a little dry on funds but I’d love one of these for my collection
This is one of the coolest vids I’ve seen in a while. Nice work!
That was awesome! Such a cool project! Looking forward to future vids 😊
Wow, the effort you put into this is incredible. Amazing result!
Im going to say that if none of us are going to be using the ext port then a headphone jack would be better.
you should be very proud man wow the extent of your knowledge to make this solo from scratch amazes me. I love how the first pcb was ordered in purple gotta love the confidence lol. Cant wait to see what you come up with next.

Hats off to you sir! You are very skilled and creative.
This is incredible work. The finished unit looks stunning.
This is amazing!
Congrats on that, you keep astonishing us in any shape way or form!
Looking forward for more videos!
This is really cool. Great work on this!
Think you’ll ever rotate the angle of the A and B buttons to better accommodate 2D platformers?
Nah, would just feel wrong on a Game Boy. My thumb has no problem hitting both buttons at the same time.
This turned out great! I'm very excited to build one.
I love it's so beautiful 🥰 I like this mod specifically cuz it kinda retains the idea of the Gameboy. As small, portable and simple as possible so it's accessible to most people no matter their economy, and full of fun games!!

That board pops up randomly every now and then, but I love seeing it, haha. Glad you found it useful!
h o l y, that thing is pristine. insane pcb you went through the hassle of making. mad lad work.
19:45 How dare you make the volume wheel like that?! So... Wheely, and volumey! Grr!
I'm truly a scoundrel. 😔
It's wheely good..
I hope you make a handheld someday I love how you use dome switches which are a favorite of mine, this gbc also looks very good
This thing is so sick!! Definitely want to build one
This is inspiring!

I just discovered your channel, and omg, you are soo amazing!
It looks awesome!
Absolute work of engineering prowess right here! Incredible!
This is absolutely amazing 😍 I want to make my own GBC with a ESP32 and seeing your design, makes me want to make it even smaller!! Just amazing ❤ congratulations 👏👏👏
That looks incredible!!!! Congrats on the cool project!!
OMG I need to double down on my PCB making skills. So glorious! 😎
Insane quality. You deserve more recognition
Looks like an actual product. Impressive.
This with an audio output would be PERFECT for a DJ setup

Wish I had 200x the skillset I have to attempt something like this. Jaw on the floor the entire video 🐸
After watching your designs I can't even imagine what you will be able to do with the gba.
This is an amazing a work of engineering, fantastic work mate!
Came for the Nintendo
Stayed for the Jazz
Great Musical taste haha. But also, good content. Congrats on the acomplishment!
Console seems great, a little disconfortable (maybe a TAD too small), but awesome overall.
Insane quality, keep up the incredible work
This is amazing. I ADORE your builds.
What a mad-lad you are, amazing project my dude!
Super impressive. You have mastered this system
Insane levels of talent. This thing is awesome!
Holy shit thats cool! Even the volume wheel is pretty dope!
This is actually so freaking awesome. Amazing build!
I would love a bigger gba/gbc like 3 or 4 times the size of the original. easy to hold and i won’t need my glasses :) great work!
It's cool seeing the process! The final outcome is suuuuuuper damn sleek, goddamn!! Amazing work!
This is crazy impressive, amazing work!
Absolutely stunning dude. You're so clever.
Pffff, this is just ridiculous. Absolutely insane end result. I mod gameboys and have done loads, used and love your power regulators (why no more etsy store?) but this is a level too far for me. Hopy cow!!!! Those sauldering skills are amazing. You deserve more subs
This is awesome thank you for being a great person and sharing this with the community I can’t wait to build one after my frog boy.
I absolutely love this. I have a crazy, and seemingly useless thing I'd love to see. Right Hand side D+Pad and Left Hand side A/B Buttons.
The Retro Future already did this, you should check out his videos!
@@AlbertGutherman-s3s Not like this though. To this level of craftsmanship is what I'm looking for
The only thing missing for it to be perfect in my opinion is to reorient the A and B buttons to match the orientation of a thumb.
This is super cool. I wish I could have one of these!
beautiful work, hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I'm surprised with how amazing your soldering job is considering your hands are a bit shaky, it was actually quite comforting to see that because I'm afraid of soldering small things due to my shaky hands and poor coordination
Fantastic project dude, well done.
What a spectacular job! Congratulations! It was really cool. 👏👏👏
Froggo, this video is hilarious and so well done. You are amazing!
Woah, what a great recommendation by RUclips. Awesome video, love every bit of it!
Custon hardware with original chips is quite a bit of work! Fun to watch though!
something something grump grump audio wheel /s cool vid.
my hands are way too big for the results of this project. heck, they're too big for an original gbc. but it's pretty darn neat.
That looks fantastic.
I don't understand the volume wheel hate, something so unique as this only benefits from something distinguishing like that. Can't wait to get the parts to work on my own.
Somebody loves the Game Boy Color! Amazing job, man!
The random cuts of you talking was the best part of this
That's actually insane man, I don't possess any of the skills or equipment needed to make it but I love it still :D
Man you really got some talent and determination.
That exactly the project I was like "WHY NOBODY DO THAT".
I saw those shells for GBA SP which was looking like GBC but with the main problem of GBA SP : the cartridges protrude from the gameboy.
