- The MirrorCam system gives the driver an improved view around the vehicle, reducing blind spots at the front as well as providing a better view to the rear. The two 15-inch displays can do much more to help the driver than standard mirrors, including tracking the end of the trailer when turning.
I've been driving artics for 23 years, I am getting into a new Merc with mirror cam when I go back on 2nd January. I'm absolutely dreading it.

Good idea but they should add mounts on the outside for the old standard mirrors. So that the old mirrors can be stored in the truck and easily slotted in, incase of electronic failure

I m new driver (1+ year experience) and I love these actroses... We have 2018 mostly in our yard but these are something else !
It's very comfortable with blind spots and wide angle we have new buses in London that im driving nice evolution with dark rains any weather thank you for your information.
What if you have an electrical fault and the camera stops working what is the backup
if you hit with mirror something, was is your backup ?

These mirror cams are the worst thing I've experienced in 25 years of HGV driving. Depth perception is zero when reversing, anything past halfway down the trailer becomes unclear. The cameras are so high when reversing and turning your outside camera is filled with trailer, you totally lose all idea as to where the rear of the unit is. When driving forward and turning into a narrow entrance its impossible to judge where the outside corner of the trailer is in relation to your entrance. Everyone I've spoken to with these mirror cams says the same and find the only way to reverse is by putting your head out the window.
Dave Whitaker..same here. 30 years on LGV with zero RTA's or points on my licence. These are dangerous. Some poor family is gonna get wiped out through drivers not having clear vision at night/in spray conditions. These first generation tester screens should not be on the road.

I agree...Good points are no more mirror blindspots, not having to constantly clean the glass (mirrors), but depth of field is rubbish, cannot see anything of the unit except from top of mudguard on midlift axle, narrow field of view, the anti glare feature stops me from being able to see the vehicle behind flash me in/out and the distance lines almost obscure vehicles (cars mainly) that are behind. Looked forward to having this mirrorcam feature, but am hugely disappointed with it. The driver should be able to position the camera and then let it automatically react within those set parameters. I guess as with any new technology, there will be improvements. Hopefully Mercedes see these comments and can incorporate driver feedback into the newer versions. Overall, I'm loving the new truck, (I have the 480 Giga Cab). My other one was two years older (68 plate), this 70 plate is quieter, smoother, the gear changes are quicker and I like the new Power setting.
You had an ambulance come up behind you? The blue lights look white you can’t tell if the lights are even flashing at all because every car looks like it has flashing headlights….
I agree, felt confident driving the old actross, this mirrorless one, hate driving it everyday, haven't met anyone who likes em yet, we have 10,another 14 coming, some drivers refuse to drive em.
The camera Quality Need to improve coz can't get the car Color around 10 to 30 Metters

The cameras are heated and shielded from the elements - so we hope there will be no need :)

Yea it’s cool and all, but imagine someone backing into the camera... the cost of fixing that... or if there is a screen problem or electric? Not an easy fix. Normal mirror is kinda better if ther is problem, but sure some of the feature is great
I take it this feature is an extra and not standard for all
MirrorCams will be standard across the Mercedes-Benz Truck range with this new product from start of production.

If they are using LCDs then they haven't done enough research because you can't see shit while wearing polarized sunglasses in certain angles.
That's why pilots are forbidden to wear them. Because they are surrounded by LCD screens

I've always liked Mercedes as the brand it is but I don't think features like this will work by the time the truck has 20 year's or let say 1 500 000 km on it. To be honest all manufacturers has to go back to build their products to last rather than shine, it's things like this that make them being a bad choice on the used market one day.
This looks wicked, but how they are staying clean when driving in rain?
MirrorCam is shielded from the elements and self heating, but like conventional mirrors if they get dirty you can reach them from the seat for a quick wipe.

Not while moving you can’t reach it… one blob of rain and the whole screen is useless
5 years since new mirror cam start. And mercedes nothing did learn about this dangerous system. They didn't changed this system for better. Sun or rain made dangerous situations. What with the blue light. This is not good for our health.

They have terrible picture quality is not good. 95% drivers I've spoken too from different companies hate them. Our company told us it's 5% better fuel economy so somebody is lying then

They are dangerous garbage. In low light or spray they are nowhere near as clear as a glass mirror. Those lines superimposed over the image are supposed to "help" the driver judge how far back traffic is. If the screens were as good as mirrors then you wouldn't need the lines. ..or...if lines were such a great "help" then why don't merc or anyone else put lines on glass mirrors ? LED car headlights constantly flash at you cos the light frequency interferes with the screens. You can't safely clean the cameras on the move. One large droplet of water obliterates a third of the screen image. When they short out you have no rear view and if you do manage to stop safely it's a tow away job. The drivers I know who are being made to use them have simply got used to the lower quality image. It's like you can drive with really dirty glass mirrors cos you CAN get used to it. But that doesn't mean it's legal or that it wouldn't be a damn site safer to clean them !

Absolutely useless in low or bad light conditions, there is much better technology out there! it seems that Mercedes have taken the cheaper option.
