Hi Kev another great video ect just like always keep up with the great work that you do and keep them great videos coming take care drive carefully and stay safe my friend
I stopped driving artics some years ago, due to illness, I loved the twenty years plus and all the different trucks I drove, my ambition whilst on the road was to drive tankers and I managed that just before my illness brought about a career change. I must say, that I do miss this career, it was a passion of mine since being a boy. The video is great and that Mercedes is the right way ahead, sadly, technology will take over and the driver will be replaced, in time, so, to all those drivers out there who may be dismissing the mirror cam, I say, get use to it, or move on, business will be business and it there’s a way of cutting cost, then you know that it’ll happen.
Kind of understand, sorry about your illness hope you enjoy your new career. As for driver's being replaced that won't happen, think of planes many years ago without auto pilot , now planes are teched up like our trucks but require manual landing and take off and manurvering , so we'll still need proper qualified driver's to manuver at sites, truck stops and even maybe built up urban areas , but who knows what will be in a 100yrs
Do these remove a possible blind spot at junctions? I would imagine that the big, standard mirrors it would somewhat block your view at angled junctions?
I understand old school drivers will have doubts and not like them but technology is full steam ahead and times are changing. This is a lovely truck I think it's brilliant. 👍
Topography yes but so did the MP4, this takes it to another level, slowing and increasing speed for the entire road system including cornering, speed restrictions and junctions.
Yeah thats what I was thinking or even worse you end up breaking one and its not as simple as replacing a mirror and no doubt cost a lot more to replace. They need a back up plan for when these camera's fail otherwise the truck becomes useless, you cant drive a HGV without mirrors. Technology is getting better but it still has its own problems. I know with some of the older vehicles I drove that had reverse cameras you were lucky if they worked half the time, so you would want to hope the mirror cameras are much more reliable.
Exactly the same as a standard mirror. They wont be crazy priced from what I've been told and for the 1 time you break a mirror you'd lose the benefits of cameras every other day?
I think they have missed a trick here considering they have gone to the trouble of the all singing and dancing mirror cameras . Surely it would make sense for some extra detachable cameras on the front of the trailer ? You can see one blind side when reversing but not the other ? Or am I wrong ?
they are fine in the day light but not so good on twilight i found, and the low res cameras are grainy. Also so lights on cars can appear like they are flashing even tho they don't have any lights on ! range rovers look like a safety car at a race track with it works with them for some reason
Hi Kev. Great video. As you know with our lot we have the Actros, we have one of the new ones coming next week for the European boys. Personally I'm not sure about all these electronics, the mirror cams look good but just something else to go wrong, do they work well at night? Mercedes and electronics don't seem to mix to well. More and more gizmos perhaps taking attention away from the driver could become dangerous working nights.
The camera mirror system will cut down on the exterior clutter and improve vision, but do the internal screens create a blind spot by increasing the door pillar width. You said they new system did not loose the rear of the trailer while blind siding, so do the cameras pan during the reverse operation???? I have seen car drivers take both hand of the steering wheel for long periods of time using Lane Control, should there be a detection system to prevent this. Just another system to prevent abuse of the 1st system.
Looking at the video it would create a blind spot I would think, but then your eliminating a blind spot with your outside mirrors, Assumeing when say at traffic lights you keep focused on whats around you, then these blind spots would be eliminated as you should/would know whats behind them.
Was given one of these yesterday and i have to say apart from the mirrors this is a fantastic truck ! i'm pretty old school in my truck preferences and so i was already biased towards it before i got in it but within the first 2 hours of a 15 hour shift it had won me over in a big way and i love everything about it excluding the Mirror cam

You seem to forget this was a snapshot of a new product that I got to spend very little time with, had it been a long term review things might of been very different, hindsight is a wonderful thing as they say.......
From what I’ve seen they are fine during the day, but about as useful as a chocolate fireguard at night. Also the cameras/screens really don’t like LED running lights.

I have cameras on my Volvo but there no mirror replacement, not as high resolution, don't follow the trailer and don't offer the wide angle and traditional view at the same time. The mercedes system is far superior to aftermarket camera systems.
Been a driver 37 years now. I do like these cam mirrors. Merc’s are just recycled Messerschmitts though aren’t they? 😂 Getting back to the cam mirror thing, someone mentioned how good would they work in the dark and is there a heated camera function for icy freezing fog weather conditions?
Stunning truck and love the mirror idea, Im not a truck driver but as a van driver I can see how great an idea that it. Does the truck record the feed in the mirror's like a dashcam?
I love how the new tech is just helping everything I fitted a cheap reverse cam and its just so hand that u can make sure no one has walked across behind the van. I really think most people dont understand the issues with driving a bigger vehicle trucks must be just a new level of issues.

Just a few thoughts from a fellow trucker. Best regards Dave.
We need to see how that mirror cam is doing at night and specially on rain, when a drop of water will be stuck on the camera.great ideea,i like it,but i think it's still a work in progress
The only good point on that truck (was) the crisp packet holder! ie:- handbrake level. 😉 Looks like that's gone!! So much for progress... Let's hope they get the gearing right. It's a deathtrap at rounderbouts and junctions.
I have a 2015 26 tonner at work. It's a joy when you pull a somewhat harder left and then it stops and thinks for half an hour about what gear he should be in. What a pile of shit! I'd rather drive a manual than that!
There’s been spin about Freightliner doing this in the USA. I’d have a really hard time adjusting to such an innovation myself. On another note if the camera gets taken off in a backing accident I’d wager they’d cost a great desk more to repair or replace than a traditional mirror.
Because Daimler owns the Freightliner they will do it. Remember how they introduced their ergonomics and even a Merc engine to the CL112 With love from South Africa
sugar was going to vote this up until you done the last word!! lol. I do like the bed switch for the activate mirrors feature, now you can run over the thieves feet!! without having to open all the curtains!! lol pressuming that nothing is or has parked too close to the truck. now all you need is heat seeking missiles!! ok a little too much grand theft auto in my comment! lol
Cool toys but a lot that could go Wong, and it only demonstrates the next thing to go is the driver. But the big issue I will miss if I drive one is buttons and dials that you don’t have to look away to see what you are programming. I think scania next generation has implemented new technologies well with tride and tested buttons and dials that when used to them, you really don’t 👀 away at them.. I openly etmit I am not a fan of masadies. But good vid👍
I get one with my new job next week , yeh little worried by the huge tech step I'll take , I started out on a 93 erf twin splitter, so kind of old school me but we have to go with times , pointless fighting it , sooner or later trucks will drive them selves and we will be a operator like a jet pilot , eventually older trucks like 15/16/17 reg will be pushed out of city's by stricter emission rules only allowing 18+ reg or newer, like it or not it's happening old school or not you will have choices, adapt or leave the industry daf are now following mirror cam, this is the future , as for car drivers , they will have to adapt too as once trucks self drive they won't care if cars are approaching roundabouts at stupid speed if it's empty it'll will go , so to sum it up if your new coming into this industry or won't be long befor we are in a futuristic world of hgvs driving them selves with us sitting there enjoying the view , less stress spending a decade passing joe blogs doing 0.00000001 mph less🤣
I know this is an old video. Only just popped up as a you might like this. But here are my thoughts after driving 1 for a week. PPC - annoying your in the middle off overtaking and on cruise and it senses a hill and slows you down. So you then have to override with your foot. lol Camera mirrors. They are ok except when it rains. With normal mirrror you have depth and can see abit more in HD where as the camera is SD at best and if the suns on the lens. Low in the horizon. You can’t see behind you. Where as a mirror only some of it usually top half you can’t see out off. The sat nav. I drive a 21 plate but the tomtom maps are 2019 and out of date and there is no way of upgrading them unless your company has spent money on the software in the office to upgrade it. Which they have not done. So it’s ok as a back up but can’t be relied on. The cabin controls are the wrong side they are passenger side and every other truck I have drove is either driver side or in the middle. Middle would be better. And our trucks don’t have ambient lighting so that must be an optional extra.
Now we have a big push towards electric cars is there much happening on the lorry scene with electrics? Does mirror cam cover the downwards and front blind spots that you have the additional mirrors to see cyclists and other pedestrians close to the vehicle
I like the mirror cam but what would have been a good idea from a security perspective is the option to record to a Hard Drive 24hr. So less likely to add additional cameras and hardware. But as a driver of a "Fleet Spec" Actros from said company, would some of these gadgets be available on the entry level vehicles that are contracted out. Or is it only the top spec vehicles paying through the nose aimed at the owner driver market. Time will tell.
@@KevTee I would have thought the adaptive cruise is also an option. But nice to know about the other items. Is the sat nav truck specific? EG: heights and widths?
@@truckerjoe5258 the Predictive Power train Control is also standard fit across the board. Sat nav is the truck specific Tom Tom system and only a £300 option so good value considering everything else that comes with it.
Kev how do you deal with the falling asleep aspect. I struggle to keep my eyes open sometimes and i just drive to and from work lol i couldnt imagine driving all day. The first yawn seems to start the falling asleep. I have to pull over. Is it something you get used to ?

We need to see how that mirror cam is doing at night and specially on rain, when a drop of water will be stuck on the camera.great ideea,i like it,but i think it's still a work in progress
Hydrophobic coating on the lens
Next up are Freightliners, Western Star and Fuso
The only good point on that truck (was) the crisp packet holder! ie:- handbrake level. 😉 Looks like that's gone!! So much for progress...
Let's hope they get the gearing right. It's a deathtrap at rounderbouts and junctions.
I have a 2015 26 tonner at work. It's a joy when you pull a somewhat harder left and then it stops and thinks for half an hour about what gear he should be in. What a pile of shit! I'd rather drive a manual than that!
during my time with it yesterday i found the engine and gearing fantastic abd it pulls like a train
any chance of getting to know how much they are to buy one of them thanks
One year later everyone wants the new improved merc
There’s been spin about Freightliner doing this in the USA.
I’d have a really hard time adjusting to such an innovation myself.
On another note if the camera gets taken off in a backing accident I’d wager they’d cost a great desk more to repair or replace than a traditional mirror.
Because Daimler owns the Freightliner they will do it. Remember how they introduced their ergonomics and even a Merc engine to the CL112
With love from South Africa
did the camera self adjust for the blindside reverse?
Just imagine how much/difficult that will be to fix if it gets knocked off!
Also and what happens if mud gets splashed onto the cameras while driving..no mirror's
What happens if mud gets splashed onto your mirrors, oh that's right you clean them 😂
If the camera can't be repaired, a conventional mirror can be fitted in its place within 5 minutes 👍
I imagine these are going to be harder to knock off then a conventional mirror since there's less weight to hold up.
Yes, thats! right
sugar was going to vote this up until you done the last word!! lol. I do like the bed switch for the activate mirrors feature, now you can run over the thieves feet!! without having to open all the curtains!! lol pressuming that nothing is or has parked too close to the truck. now all you need is heat seeking missiles!! ok a little too much grand theft auto in my comment! lol
Great vlog on merc kev,so u got your boss to order one?😆as for mirror cam and blind side reversing omg #cheeeerrrrrrrs
I may of dropped some hints 🤣
@@KevTee with hints u gave .u probably gave the boss a nudge or did u take him to city west urself 😁🤣😀
Hello kev good video. Nice truck but I'm still a scania man. Enjoyed the video thanks
I love the technology. Great mirrors .
What is the name of the music in this video?
Was this Merc more powerful than the one Martyn had at Keedwells Kev?
I know this is an old video. Only just popped up as a you might like this. But here are my thoughts after driving 1 for a week.
PPC - annoying your in the middle off overtaking and on cruise and it senses a hill and slows you down. So you then have to override with your foot. lol
Camera mirrors.
I want yo keep my mirror, thank you. I do not mind if you build in a camera in the existing mirror.
There so good I think you will find mirror cam across all manufacturers in the near future.
Hi kev. Great video mate was always fan of the actros but now they are un real. them screens look fantastic. Keep safe look forward to next vlog.
Now we have a big push towards electric cars is there much happening on the lorry scene with electrics? Does mirror cam cover the downwards and front blind spots that you have the additional mirrors to see cyclists and other pedestrians close to the vehicle
Seems a great bit of kit . I would hate to be the one to replace one them cams though
Plug and play at the roadside mate, easy peasy 👌
Great opportunity and well put together as ever mate......🦃💩
Very nice
I like the mirror cam but what would have been a good idea from a security perspective is the option to record to a Hard Drive 24hr. So less likely to add additional cameras and hardware. But as a driver of a "Fleet Spec" Actros from said company, would some of these gadgets be available on the entry level vehicles that are contracted out. Or is it only the top spec vehicles paying through the nose aimed at the owner driver market. Time will tell.
Mirror cam and multi media cockpit are standard fit in the new Actros, the larger 10" display with satnav is an option though 👍
It also pick the speed restrictions, when driving.
Need few days to get use to it.
Ppc is good,also ebd 5.
Not perfect but quite good.
Kev how do you deal with the falling asleep aspect. I struggle to keep my eyes open sometimes and i just drive to and from work lol i couldnt imagine driving all day. The first yawn seems to start the falling asleep. I have to pull over. Is it something you get used to ?
Plenty of sleep, lots of water and no heavy meals, I tend to have a little snooze whilst on a 45 minute break and that seems to reset the batteries 👍
You get used to it I can drive Newmarket to dumbar Scotland 1 day wide awake , if I did it in my car it be jet lagged a day 🤣
Them mirror cam stalks are massive just to hold a tiny camera
you get a lot more view with the cameras mate but for me its at the cost of more acurate depth perception
impressed with that!
Mercedes benz first is the best❤️❤️
