In regards to him eating King’s letter - I think that’s just how he handles the mail. We’ve seen him spit the mail out for them before! I think they just did that at the end of the episode to mess with us lol

The stained glass window in the owl house has the same eye pattern as the portal and in the intro it blinks. Eda found the portal in the woods near the house, I always thought it used to be part of the house. I think the househouse and the owl house were once the same place, existing in both realities simultaneously, sort of a 'Howl's moving Castle' situation

I can see that and plus TOH did have an episode titled Hooty’s Moving Hassle as a kinda play on words of Howl’s Moving Castle
Well, fun fact: we can tell that Eda's owl motif started as and has stayed the relative same over the years since childhood, as in the flashback to Lilith cursing her, Eda's drawer handles off to the right of the scene and the production boards have a two eyed, (for example) regular barn owl-like appearance.
However, as her cloak brooch, Owlbert, and even the manifestation of magic at Belos' castle have kept onto this same appearance, it certainly makes the Owl House's design all the odder given the singular eye featured around it and differing architectural styles throughout the exterior rooms - almost as if Eda merely found the base structure, renovated it, and attached parts of other buildings to make what is now known as the Owl House.
In fact, given how the owl mural in the living room takes up the entire ceiling, it's even more of a safe bet that Eda likely didn't make the house herself, which brings us to one final detail;
That the ceiling mural depicts a ONE-eyed, literally horned owl in light and dark browns as well as bright yellow, and that the portal and portal key are styled around browns and yellow in the shape of a one-eyed owl with (as seen with the little tufts at the top of the owl's head in the portal) a horned owl-like appearance.
And given how the house itself has a front facade much like a more abstract combination of BOTH the mural and portal - what with the portal's circular eye with the mural's chest markings and Hooty's door being at the same place on the house as the portal's doorknob/the mural's diamond star - it certainly makes the house being ANIMATED in HMH with moving legs instead of CREATING legs for it to move on interesting how much closer it resembles the mural in that episode.
After all, with the way some of the rooms are structured, one could consider the house as vaguely in the shape of a living creature, with Eda's room being the "skull," the living room as the "stomach" from Hooty's burping in Episode 1, and potentially the basement as like its intestine or such, well...
It certainly draws quite an interesting web of potential connections between Hooty and the portal, or should I say between Hooty and the owl entity the portal seems to be themed after, amiright?
going off of this i think the house had the portal removed forcefully, breaking it and belos is trying to find a magic solution to the problem before the consequences of messing with the portal. the house is full of magic again and not falling apart cause of Hooty, a parasitic worm in the Titan's body. Hootys power is a mixture of his personal strength, the house's, and the (possibly dried up now and my personal theory) titan blood pool under the owl house. maybe the house is also close to where the Titan's magic bile sac is in the chest by the heart. tunnel of love near the heart of the titan seems like a kind of ironic twist
Well we did have Hooty's Moving Hastle a clear reference to that movie. maybe that's even more foreshadowing.

funny you mention there's a bird theme with the Clawthornes. have you seen that AMA where Dana is asked if we'll see other bird themed houses and her answer was "Bird-themed things are generally a Clawthorne thing..."
this has people going nuts because not only is the entire emperor's coven bird themed, it's especially interesting to note that Hunter has a bird palisman AND his golden guard uniform is specifically owl themed. Some people think he's a clawthorne descendant, I hope this means he'll eventually join the Eda Found Family c'mon Dana!!
Lets say.... Phillip has 2 children: one lineage assimilated into wild magic via the Clawthornes, the other lineage were instead compromised by a cursey frend that meant Belos and co have to re-write the rules.
That could be while Belos/Goldenrod's strand struggle with magic unless it's channelled correctly, and Eda's line are super OP so long as they defy the boundaries/be a little wild.
Owls are wise and diligent, but they are also wild.

It's kinda funny, I've been working on a slightly similar theory about Hooty for a VERY long time ever since March of last month when we got the leaked AITE episode, and MAN, let me tell you. As my comment a few minutes ago touches upon, Hooty sure has one heck of a surprising rabbit hole surrounding him whether you take my interpretation, Bill's interpretation, or someone else's entirely

I don’t think belos is a grim walker/clone unlike many think. I think he’s Phillip’s descendant, half witch and half human. But I think hunter is a grimwalker and a clone of Belos. In the page we saw in the corner of the episode Eclipse Lake, we saw that seemingly grim walkers have specific noses, but also a specific eye color. Hunter has that eye color, the sort of red magenta that Hunter has. Belos has the nose, but has blue eyes instead. I think Belos created Hunter as either a sacrifice or a successor.
We also saw, though, that body swap magic changes the eye color; it's unclear if that actually happens or if it's just to differentiate for the viewer, but if they brought that whole thing back for this, I wouldn't be surprised
I think belos created hunter as a new vessel for the titan or for himself
Personally I think that phillip made a grimwalker to continue searching for a way home and upon switching into its body the eyes change color, belos would be the fourth or fifth grimwalker in this series, and is now cultivating hunter as his next body

Omg I did not expect the theory to be this well put together and thought out. This was incredible. I was especially stunned when you said he might be a tape worm and therefore would have titan’s blood, which is needed for the portal. Iconic theory, 10/10, someone ask Dana about Hooty’s Hole :)
Hooty can remove parts of himself: the tube into a travel pack... but what if his walking and legs in hootys moving castle was simply a further partial detachment of a larger whole?
All the places we've seen hooty tube out of: are the door, the porta pack and the ground itself all the same material? Could hooty emerge from my belly button?? Who knows

******SPOILERS FOR THE END OF THE SERIES KIND OF,, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK*******
Unsure if you've seen but Dana confirmed in a stream that you were closest with this theory in a one off comment. Having the information that we have now I think it's safe to assume that Hooty is a parasite specific to titans (possibly even specific to dead/dying titans), which would also explain how he's basically infinite in length.
Thinking about it, the eye on the portal door is confirmed to be the Titans missing eye and it most likely popped out BECAUSE of hooty.
So Hooty is absolutely the catalyst for the main portal door.

By the way Bill, there's a few other things about him you might have missed in Understanding Willow you might find interesting beyond just that line of him being "the secret" of Eda's "secret fortress." For one thing, the beginning of his interview with Gus is - as of this latest episode - has been both the first and one of the only three instances in the entire show where we've had conversations and dialogue hidden as background noise.
To clarify, the second instance in all of Season 1 after this was the VERY hard to decipher lore dump in WILW, and while the third and first instance in Season 2 was Kikimora's tirade about Hunter, it certainly makes somewhat more easily understandable Hooty's interview all the more suspicious that they deigned to hide it at the very end of an episode where the audience would be much more focused on Amity, Luz, and Willow's subplot's ending rather than the humorous framing of Hooty winning the competition.
And in case you were wondering, what can be heard there is "It all started with a hunt. Blood red skies. That's right, I was created-", which clues us into 3 things:
1) That this easy to miss interview will likely be INCREDIBLY significant later on given how little explicit detail there is to clue the audience into it's significance, especially compared to the WILW lore dump where the shot *started* out as about a history lesson that immediately indicates it's a lore dump, and compared to the Kikimora rant where it's implicitly made very evident that it's just a rant and not very important. That, and how it's followed up with Gus being annoyed by Hooty and the ending's framing basically all but signaling to the audience "hey all, there was nothing of actual importance here, the episode's done, you can go home now, no need to look any deeper at the rest of what this bird tube says."
2) That Hooty was **created** rather than born, which is rather at odds with the way he grouped himself last episode as part of the other descendants of the primordial demons that arose from the Titan's decomposing corpse, and that his creation is an important event that the crew is keeping under warps to end all the audible interview dialogue at that point.
3) That Hooty's creation is tied to an event involving a hunt and the skies being blood red in some way, and between the Collector's hunt of the Owl Beast in the latter's memory as well as the blood red skies of the S2 poster, we can infer that whatever the reveal is behind Hooty's creation, it will be a HUGE revelation in the future.
Additionally, a detail that I've often seen glossed over or forgotten in the fandom is the larger context behind Gus' interview competition, where at the very beginning of the episode -aka a spot where recency bias in conjunction with the Willow A plot would make it easy to forget what he said- he clarified that he was looking specifically for someone who was "interesting, accomplished, AND noteworthy."
Now, a thing to note is that he then said that "people aren't *meant* to be all those things," which holds quite a few interesting implications with his stated need for perfection and his competition. Namely, that he likely was looking for the MOST "interesting, accomplished, and noteworthy" candidate to -as he says later in the episode- make "the single greatest interview of all time."
Taking all of this into consideration, by sheer logic and narrative indication, it clearly means that not only does Hooty somehow fit into ALL THREE categories, but that he's fits even better than *both* King and Eda.
Aka the same Eda who used to be an incredible magical powerhouse and public enemy no. 1, now has an very interesting harpy form and connection with a mysterious owl beast curse, and likely will go on to accomplish big things later this season. And aka the same King who was found in a mysterious and **ancient** tower of unknown magics, does NOT belong to any of the three Bs of demon types, and appears to be indirectly connected in some way to the portal door through the larger member of King's species that delivered a letter to Hooty having a carriage with a door that has the exact same eye and a similar looking owl motif as the on on the portal.
Yet Hooty, our lovable bird worm and Owl House, is implicitly more fitting a candidate for Gus' high-stakes interview than either of them.
Sure makes one wonder if Hooty's only other comment that episode being "I'm good at getting stuck inside people's heads" might have some more truth to it than readily apparent...

Just as an aside, but in case you're wondering how I got all this, I've been VERY solidly focused on analyzing Hooty like such ever since last March, and man have I come up with quite a few more subtheories that spawned from the hypothetical existence of this "Owl Deity" as I like to call it in the meantime.
For that, I named the entity in the mural as such due to the way how, if one strips away all the furniture and decorations in the living, the candles everywhere and the wall-length curtains tied up in the room's corners seem to suggest like the room might have been used as some sort of altar or ritual room centered around the owl entity *like* it was some sort of god - hence "deity" instead of "god" as we don't have full confirmation of what it is yet.
It's funny, but like, this whole train of thought of focusing on Hooty and connecting him to the Owl Deity actually spawned out of me diving deep into trying to pin together potential evidence for the Owl Deity's possible existence as a theory, and then making an offhand joke about Hooty being said Owl Deity that I very quickly noticed connected a whole lot more puzzle pieces than I had intended.

I literally had a reference on Gus and his interview with Hooty in my notes and felt like it wouldn't make sense so i cut it. I'm so mad lol Gus literally seems to be frustrated Hooty is focusing on first words and I wonder if that's because he said something important and then dropped it/moved on "i saw the titan's death...then i said my first word: hoot" lol ugh. i always forget about the window for some reason, i think i focus too much on hooty as the house. i definitely wouldn't be surprised and am convinced we will learn more about owl magic/lore as we continue. Like i said in the video, why did Belos reject ingesting Owlbert? Aren't you hungry, guy?

Between this and the Owl Deity theory, the Owl House fandom has made Hooty the most interesting character in the series.

Hotty's face appears in many things, such as the arquived curse paper thing that lilith used to curse Eda or on the face of the actual titan. He is something important
I think there’s also a frame where we look at Hooty as a reference to Calcifer from Howl’s Moving Castle. There’s the obvious connections, they’re both demons in control of an eponymous building, Lilith refers to Hooty as Hootsifer, there’s even an episode titled “Hooty’s Moving Hassle”. But this could have larger effects on his character.
Spoilers for Howl’s Moving Castle
Calcifer is a demon that Howl gives a piece of his heart to in order to gain magical powers, one of which being to turn into a giant bird for further connection. This could mean that part of Ida’s power, namely her power to travel freely between The Boiling Isles and the Human Realm, was given to her by Hooty. The trade between Howl and Calcifer also means that their lives are linked, if one were to die the other would as well. I’m unsure if this will have any correlation in the show, since we haven’t gotten any explicit evidence towards it, but it is still something to consider.
And before people comment that, according to the book, Howl actually gave up his heart to heal a dying Calcifer and was given his powers as thanks, I’m aware but this was just simpler to explain for the theory.
Ok, so this got me thinking... hooty could do some trade with Eda (and lilith) to restore her magic, OR, he could do the trade with Luz and give her the ability to travel between realms (and as a consequence give her the ability to perform magic in the human realm)
I heard something about a “Hooty hole theory” and I assumed it was some wild bombastic theory and literally just scoffed and thought to myself, “pretty sure he’s just supposed to be a weird ass tape worm kinda thing at this point. What more to it could there be.” Shame on me. Props to you!

Curious. I personally always equated Kikimora to Hooty rather than to King, as in IRL folklore, the kikimora were believed to be house spirits, house *demons*, the exact term Lilith used to describe Hooty in Agony of a Witch.

Admittedly yours has more actually connections between the characters, I'm just a sucker for folklore and the kikimora house demons seemed to fit and make sense with how Kikimora the character was going off her rocker. Especially with Knock, Knock, Knocking on Hooty's Door creating a direct parallel. One house demon responds to feeling inadequate by thinking positively and genuinely helping. The other slowly unravels as they boil more and more in anger. I do absolutely agree that Hooty is probably hiding some power though. I'd love to know your take on Lililth's actions. Despite what she did to Eda, I actually really like her, but it's true she basically tried to kill Luz. And even if they don't think much of humans' lives (just like humans generally do with, for example, bugs), I still think it's unforgivable. So yeah, I totally understand when people don't like her.

@@thethirdbill Amity tried getting Luz killed in the 3rd episode, KNOWING they weren’t an abomination. And Hunter THREATENED Luzs life to get the key from Amity. Remember Lilith did say the orb she used on Luz was for her protection- not the most forgivable Lilith moment but she did redeem herself in many ways and became even more likable as the series progressed. The same can be said with Hunter and Amity, yet there’s fans in all three of those characters fanbases that hate them for no reason?? Bruhhh

My guess right now is the part about Hooty being a parasite on the Titan feeding off of his magic giving Hooty powers! It fits with why we see Hooty coming out of Papa Titan’s eye I think :D

My thought is that the door used to be linked to a blank house defended by a house demon-- a house very similar to the human realm one, and said house demon is Hooty. He could even be the first of the house demons? My best guess is the Titan directly made Hooty out of one of his ocular nerves after he made his eye into a portal as a very effective defense-- Evelyn, who has many a bird friend, makes friends with Hooty and gains access to the door inside because of it, and then her and Caleb (once he gets there) turn the normal abandoned house into the Owl House. It connects many, many dots; we know an offhand comment of his specifically was correct. Dana thinks what Hooty is is horrifying, so him being a sentient titan nerve snaking it's way around like a worm makes sense. We know he's older than even Evelyn being there, and we know House Demons can supposedly live thousands of years. It explains why there's an empty, dry Hooty in the Titan's eye...

Also the eye on the stained glass window for the owl house is the same eye as the portal door. So if Hooty is the owl house, then that's a HUGE similarity to the portal.
Also, I think this along with the vile of titans blood in the grave yard with Hooty's head as a cap, and the fact that Evalyn also traveled to the human realm, help to prove that the clawthorns had a huge hand in creating and owning portals to the human realm. I think that Hooty definitely has this power to connect to the human world

Since we know now that Evelyn (the witch who Caleb fell in love with) was a Clawthorne, I think it's pretty easy to guess that the door used to be stationary on both sides, but in order to protect it from Belos, Caleb removed and hid it

Given a follow up with Dana stating that King's tower was built by someone with amnesia. Hooty not recognising Papa Titan when he dropped off the letter. Hooty sticking out of Papa Titan's eye in the finale implying a connection between the two. AND Hooty's ability to build a love tunnel... would it stand to reason that Hooty built the tower.

Can’t believe you were right
at first I thought he was made out the same wood palismens are made out of because he’s a talking WOODEN door but I completely changed my mind when I saw him remove himself from the actual door where we see living moving organs but that doesn’t mean he isn’t made out of some sort of wood, he’s just not made out the same wood palismens are made out of, I do think he could be made out of a very rare tree that eda had found to make her house.
And the reason why hooty’s type of wood could be rare is that it has organs and it could be possibly dangerous depending on the situation or how aggressive the witch has made the wooden object or furniture.
Saw NSAF with a "I believe in Hooty Hole Theory" t-shirt and had no idea what was up with that, so here I am!
I think that Hooty is a very ambitiously created Palisman that was some how combined with a demon. I know that so far that idea literally contradicts everything that we know about palismen so far, but Hooty is also unlike anything that we have seen on The Owl House, he might have even been crated as an experiment by someone who was trying to leave the demon realm.
However we are probably going to have to wait until the third season to start getting any confirmation on what Hooty is.
