I feel like a lot of people fail to realize the situation Disney was in during this time. The decision was made to shorten the third season during the midst of the pandemic. Disney was losing tons of money from their amusement parks shutting down, there had to be budget cuts to all of their DTVA shows, and streaming services (Which would have been more fit for shows like the Owl House due to viewers being guaranteed to see all the episodes) were just starting to take off. Season 1 of the Owl House had just started airing and it didn’t seem like it was going to be a particularly successful show at the time. Of course now we can look back and see that it likely would have been worth it to renegotiate the shows contracts to make it a Disney+ original, but that unfortunately wasn’t the case when the decision was made.

The next best thing to getting an apology from the people who made the decision (without Dana's consent or request to the meeting as it's creator) is the admittance that they were in the wrong to make a "panic" decision on cancelling the series, via a much shorter final season than it deserved.
And while Dana made a valid point in finding gratitude that they were at least willing to take a chance on her project and giving her the freedom to write what she wanted back then, I still feel like they need to learn from this experience to ensure they do not make a repeat of someone else's baby. At least with this it not only may open up new avenues for the series to expand or exist in a spinoff or graphic novel (assuming Dana is willing to pursue it before starting a new project), it also could mean other animators and writers will be given the benefit of the doubt for their work in the future.
There are so many amazing storytellers and artists out there who deserve to freely create their work and share it with others so that they can experience it with future generations who would appreciate it too, and higher ups/execs of big companies like Disney are looked to like parents who they depend on to help support them in their endeavors.

I don't believe Gravity Falls was cut short, but they certainly had struggles getting some content approved and it's been a few years since I watched it, so I could be wrong about that. A third season wouldn't have been that hard to do, I just worry the pacing might not support it because I remember feeling pretty satisfied during my first watch through, other than Pacifica kinda falling off the radar immediately after her single-episode redemption arc. Star vs. the Forces of Evil is a mixed bag and I think it had 4 or 5 seasons which isn't terribly long but also not incredibly short. Whether you liked the ending or not it didn't feel super abrupt, so I don't know about that one either; maybe I just missed hearing about it being cancelled before they were ready. The Star/Marco shipping felt awkward and drawn out at times so I wouldn't have wanted more of that but the ending could've been more satisfying overall. I certainly would've loved spending more time with most of the side characters! 😊

And I agree, I'm glad the Owl House won't get milked either! There are too many shows that go on past their freshness date, you can tell when they run out of ideas, and it becomes a bad experience by the end. It just sucks that it got cut off in its prime so we won't get to see a more leisurely story with extra character tidbits that probably had to be cut to further the main plot. Hopefully they'll make some graphic novels with side-stories that might've made it in if they had a fully fleshed out third season! 😄

There was a lot of things in Thanks to Them that me and my animation peers discussed would have been great as actual episodes and arcs, that would have been incredibly impactful but alas.
I do not feel Dana would have dragged the story out personally, it wouldn't have ended up in a Fairy Tail situation where it doesn't know when to wrap up, but with 4 seasons and maybe a big special length finale I really think material could have been comfortably and succinctly covered. Idk I'm just incredibly bitter seeing how many storylines were axed because of it needing to condense and quickly wrap everything into 3 episodes.

      -a 2nd young Raeda episode

      -Steve and Maltholemule bonding
      -Darius and Eberwolf bonding
-a lot more expansion on the coven heads
      -a beach episode

      @Donirexian Год назад

@@RavenStarMedia To me, that still sounds like a lot of episodic plot. Even if it is lore expansion, a hooty origin episode and another Gus/Matholomule one doesn't sound like it would advance Belos' plot that much. I think my main point in my original comment still stands. Even if it isn't the main crew adapting to the human realm, we still would've gotten a bunch of episodic stuff that fans actually are wanting now. I still think it's hugely ironic that TOH team had to cut the kind of episodes Disney wants, and fans want too. Disney needs to learn that an overarching plot doesn't mean every episode will be the main focus of it. That's why there's always so called filler episodes in anime like Naruto and One Piece.

I hope this makes Disney realize that giving creative, character focus shows a chance is worth it. We'll never get to see what the owl house would have looked like without these limitations, but maybe I'm happy with what we got and I know Dana and the crew are giving us the best season 3 they can.
who knows? maybe we'll get that golden guard spin off, or a young eda spin off.
maybe now shows like the owl house won't have to fight so hard to just get a chance.

Corpos don't care about art, they want short-term profits; this makes them extremely risk-averse and completely incapable of understanding the idea of building a fanbase. While there's no hope for the show continuing beyond season 3, this realisation should hopefully mean some other form of content for The Owl House sometime in the future. It's just a shame that so many amazing shows (Ducktales, The Owl House, RotTMNT) are being cancelled because executives have no idea how to market a show or what the public want, etc. etc.

      Short Version:
      1. Upset and Angry because of crammed 3rd season
      2. The other two ended on good times
Amphibia could have gone one well for another season. They could have explored the country's history more. Ducktales ended at a good time. I want more of course, but Ducktales still did good and they didn't draw it out until it got boring. I can hardly stand what they did to The Owl House though! It was also a GOOD SHOW.
I can't stand how they CRAMMED way TOO MUCH into that 40 minute 1st 3rd season episode, though I was still happy for it. I also found it to be too dark though. It deserved a good 4 episodes at least for the "human world part", with Hunter's transformation and everyone interacting with the human world.
Thanks to this video I now get that Disney only wants non-story line shows though.

After cementing the short-lived length of Season 3 and dealing with much very well-deserved anger towards them, you can only imagine the conversation in the Exec room: "Well, it seems we were wrong lol." "Yeah, we couldn't admit this _before_ the damage was done, but now that we've already gotten our way let's just call it an 'oopsie' and move on as if nothing happened." "The public will see it, think 'Oh wow, they admitted it! We're happy now,' and move on even though nothing's changed!"
In other words, had they admitted this before cutting S3 short, maybe I'd care. But as they've already gotten their way and aren't going to fix it (obviously), I honestly could not care less and it does not merit their forgiveness. But that's just my two cents. Maybe if they actually did something productive then they could earn it, but if there was any faith in them it's long gone by now.
