  • In this episode of the Insect Hunter, Jason Thomas talks about his experience using porch lights as a collecting tool. He shares some tips and tricks and shows off some of the insects he is able to find. This tool can be great if you don't have a lot of time to collect, but you can still get a variety of insects.

      Thanks Liloc. Glad to hear the encouragement and positive feedback! I may do some more goofy videos in the future, but I will try to make sure they are marked so folks know they are especially for kids.

    Baby's are scarier than any bug... also! I'm thinking about going to nabraska or Colorado for etymology. I'm graduating next year and I'm really scared...

      Corbin Jose haha babies like bugs aren’t as bad as people think! There are a lot of programs that do entomology! I have worked with Texas A&M, Purdue and the University of Idaho Entomologists. If any of those interest you please contact me and I may be able to connect you with people who can help you get involved with a program.

      Insect Hunter I would absolutely love that!!! The only reason I thought of Nebraska was because it's the only college I could find that offered a major in etymology. And I'm half indian, so I could go to Colorado for free. Maybe also Texas,I think? Having help from you would be amazing! If you want to contact me or anything, I don't mind exchanging Emails or something..?

    would a cheap black light bulb attract insects to a white sheet like a mercury vapor lamp?

    • @InsectHunter
      @InsectHunter  6 лет назад +2

      John Long yes black lights and a white sheet work great! I will hopefully make a video soon to show how to do it!

      John Long that’s great! Pick a night that is supposed to be warm and you should find quite a few insects at night!

    Over the last couple of years the so-called "insect apocalypse" is becoming more and more observable. I am 51 and started collecting as a kid and insect have dissapeared from the environments in central California that they once thrived in. Porch lights don't produce and cars radiator grills and windshields are clean. :(

    • @yoteango
      @yoteango Год назад

      Porch lights not producing can also be from LED lights not emitting the same wavelengths as other lights. It's not the sole reason, but can be one of the factors.

    Hello and due to the neighbor’s porch light. I see a june beetle for 2 light total. In one night I saw a black click beetle and the other beetle too some nights ago I saw the click beetle
