Current Taekwondo is not conditioned for a real fight. WTF TKD sparring uses protectors. That is the reason why, whenever Karate throw a punch The TKD guy can't take the pain.
TKD needs to be conditioned in a full contact fight in order to compete with Kyokushin Karate / Muay THai / Other martial arts.
They have good kickings but they don't have a good BODY ARMOUR.

tae kwon do used to be a militaristic type of fighting which was ground based the problem is because it was short ranged. when the arial kicks were adopted it changed the art abit. the kicks can be potentaily deadly if performed with the right timing and accuracy but it is almost rendered useless when the man is right in ur face. this shows how things change over time

Kyokushin has open tournaments all the time where people from other styles can come. I personally went to 2 of those in Europe (I did Goju-Ryu karate at the time). Lots of fun, tough fighters and very good challenge. In the US I'm sure you can find at least a couple. But unless you're used to endurance training (like getting hit for real all the time) I won't recommend it

I have met guys that are Shotokan "die-hards" only, but every high ranking JKA, SKIF, & SKI instructor has always encourage cross-training. My American instructor had us training full-contact kickboxing. I love Shotokan, but have also trained Muay Thai, BJJ, Boxing, & Judo. But now I'm more concerned about how much damage I do with my kicks, not how fancy they are and not as much concern about its speed either. You are wrong my boy. Korea had its own MA called Taekyon (a striking art) and Yusul (a grappling art). During the Japanees occupation these arts were forced underground and many forms of MA were practiced until Gen. Choi mandated that TKD be known as Koreas offical MA.

Actually, Taekondo is very similar to Japanese Shotokan Karate.

as a fact, Karate came from Southern China.you can see Southern Chinese MA in Karate.

It's very hard to say which martial art is dominant, especially when it comes to stand up. I did karate my entire life and learnt to respect everyone as I experienced each art. The only real trouble I was given was from Thai fighters and as you do you adapt a few things that you know work to incredible effect but also for every action is a opposite one so learning mauthai was a hinderence as I was also learning a combination of jujitsu and karate. I found mauthai and karate was very weak towards the more intense grappling higher ranking wrestlers especially when your tired and starting to slow. But you still have to learn to check and what not so it's all very difficult to decide anything. Each to their own, the trick is to train what your naturally good at and enjoy, go from there I think. Don't let videos decide what you should learn because one was victorious, the most humbling thing about fighting is that you learn there is always someone better.

that goes for all fighting styles tho. the problem with ,as far as i've seen, all martial art competitions, is that the fighters dont want to hurt each other. that is to say their techniques arent usually fully executed, so a round house kick turns into a guy flailing his leg in the rough direction of his opponent. this tends to reduce most fights to two guys waving limbs at each other with very little considerd technique.

But when I fight a friend of my who practises tkd, I rarely hit him with one of my punches. He keep me at a distant with kicks. And all I can do is block, I can't attack. @reybatistafan I never did say I was a tkd fighter. But if you were mistaking me 4 it when I said I practised it I apologise. I understand that you thought I said tkd is "best" bcuz, lets face it. Everyone are saying that their martial art is best. But hear me out when I'm telling you that I've trained and tested several martial arts. That's why I know everything works. But that doesn't mean it works 4 you. That's why you've to create a style 4 yourself. Mixed or not mixed. It's up to you.

ITF is very different from WTF. I can tell which is which just by looking at the way the kicks look and are executed. I can not say which is better, as that depends not on the art but the practitioner, but WTF seems, from what I've seen, to focus more on speed and combo kicks.
BTW, Choi speaks for ITF, not WTF. ITF is close to Karate, WTF isn't.

TKD actually does work but you have to be insanely good at it to employ its full power, and usually in fights kicks to the head just arent a good idea. Actually any art near mastery is pretty damn good, its just you don't see much of it in competitions because the ones who do it for 20+ yrs don't like fighting for audiences. Usually the growth in consciousness attained by high level martial artisits result in disinterest in competitions. Seriously though, these guys arent black belts.

@Hawaii0407 I agree on what you´re saying. It´s hard 2 believe that tkd works in a real street fight considering what you have seen on the differents vids. I admit that almost all of these tkd guys sucked. But that doesn´t mean I will let comments that are disrespecting tkd go by. I have not trained martial arts 4 long. But I have tested a lot of differents types. I have sparred against many different style types as well. Both with there rules and non. The one I liked the most where MT and TKD.

  • @myarecio

give them continuous full contact sparring rules...the tables my turn.....TKD is not about one move, it is about multiple, opening up the opponent. This is why they train combos, not hitting once and waiting for the whistle....

the thing is that karate practitioners kick become so strong to the body that even sweeping the leg properly will bring him down but taekwondo kick are not that strong but an accurate one, if it is hit in the head they would become uncounsious.

What happened to him in the end that he grabbed his guts and fell down?
But maybe his strengths were fighting with fists and thus from close range? We all have our pros and cons ;)
I practice TKD, too and I didn't see the TKD dude doing much kicks(somewhy TKD is related to kicks only lol) so I see why it was hard for you to believe he was a TKD fighter. He did very well, though. Got kicked a lot and didn't give up or fall down of exhaustion.

None of them are using TKD of either WTF or ITF. Besides, never judge a martial art by whats allowed in its typical sparring, only the street fight can tell and usually the better conditioned fighter wins.

Like i said, i'm not sure about it. I know TKD, not karate. My point was that TKD orginates not only from karate, but from other styles aswell

  • @Southpaw4warrior

@Hawaii0407 Dude firstly, belt colour in my eyes are bullshit. It tells you nothing about the other one. Secondly, I did say my style is not tkd, I'm a mma fighter. That's also the reason why I only have yellow. I've trained several martial arts. Cuz I believe that every martial art have something useful. And tkd has it flaws, but so does boxing. And combined you will have the best kicks and best punches. And if noticed, I've never spoke about my tkd.

for all of you, there is two TKD just likeve shkeat says, the ITF created by the general Choi, This is THE TEAKWON-DO ITF, and the WTF based on the traditionnal kick and punch koran anciant technics aged for centuries, just for you to know it is the general Choi who gives this art the sames names as his own Taekwondo. know you all spead about the WTF olympic style, but never try to know what is the WTF traditionnal style, it is just like the ITF in fact, 40% kicks and 60% punch.

@ikcjjtt Don't know, but traditional TKD reminds me too much of Hapkido, I see little diffrence, and ITF looks too showstyle, I'm not saying TKD is bad, I'm training Ninjitsu for over 10 years and BJJ for 4, and now I'm looking into TKD

  • @dangkoen

Luckily, we train technics, patterns, movements, coördination and the other basics of TKD more than sparring. Actually, there isn't sparring unless you feel like sparring and say it.

The problem is that in a TKD tournament the goal is to mostly land a lot of strike points. So lots of TKD people go into a fight with a thinking they can win by throwing a completely non-strategic flurry when really they're just wasting energy. However, there are a few "combat" TKD places that teach their students to legitimately strategize their fights and pick apart their opponents. This is not the case for WTF TKD though.

exactly, i'm sick of these constant "your style sucks, no yours does, no yours does" bullshit comments. It's 100% about the person, not the style. If i train for 10 years every day, 8 hours a day, and i train in basic punching and nothing else, but i'm SO good at it that it doesn't matter, then i'll beat a kung fu monk who's trained for 1 year for only 4 hours a day, regardless of whether or not his style is better then mine. There is no best style, only best fighters.

I live in the United States. And I don't put down Kyokushin or any other fighting system. I believe it has more to do with the individual's ability to fight than it does with the style.

@ikcjjtt They use electronic devices to avoid "stolen" points, the devices only work with an amount of power (depend on the fighters weight) and with the proper use of the technique (using the instep). Most of all, you can't blame the style... The fighter is the one that sucks... The TKD guy

  • @rohanmurray-carrington2907

I thought that fight was pretty even throughout if your counting the no. Of hits and their diversity it's just that one guys karate guy is constantly closing the space and the TKD guy is trying to mak iy

  • @Southpaw4warrior
    @Southpaw4warrior 13 лет назад

@reybatistafan Plus. I only ripped on karate so you would realise that every martial art has its cons and pros. And when training martial art you have to find your own style. Sometimes you're lucky and the martial art you're training fits YOU perfectly. And my style isn't tkd. It's more like boxing with mt blocks. When you said that commentary about "if the karate guy was better". I wanted you to know it can go either way... The same goes about the tkd guy.

C'est surtout des quiches tous les deux...Bon, in the same time we can't say that is a real fight because they havent any protections. In a real fight,(not in the street of course), TKD have a helm and a chest protection(I don't know the word in english for "plastron"). I think that's the reason why they hit slowly and not strong.

hey guys, this kyokushin fighter doesn't look affected by every single hit from the taekwondo fighter right?? actually, he is hurt. but every single hit from his opponent is determining him to move forward and forgetting the damages. in the other hand, every time the taekwondo fighter hit. his fighting spirit is decreasing when he saw his opponent is not damaged.
