I wonder how the gas petrol engine starts with this system. The two motor system, while heavier & more complex, does mean MG1 is designed solely to start & charge from the gas engine while MG2 is the traction/regen motor. Does the motor in this system actually function as the starter using the friction of the clutch to crank the engine or does Nissan employ an additional starter motor to perform this duty?

While Nissan has done their homework, I worry that a clutch may fail or the electronic that engage said clutch may not work. Yes, most Hybrid Hardware is guaranteed for 8 yrs/80k miles or 10 yrs/ 150k miles in some states. Wow, this is why you can have a performance engine and hybrid fuel economy. The CVT belts are very robust and failure is not common. So, time will tell if the system is better than Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive. Nissan's system is a combination of Honda's IMA and the Hybrid Synergy Drive. I would like to see what the real world mileage would be for the average driver.
Why don’t you make the engine recharge the battery. When the battery is full the engine stop. Then if the battery going to empty the engine will start to recharge the battery. Hope you will consider about my idea.
Tell the CGI experts that it's since about the fall of the Berlin wall there are no two stroke engines anymore. Rendering and animations and bells and whistles and then they draw four sparks per crank rotation XD
My 2010 Insight had exactly the same setup without the engine clutch. That was 10 years ago, guys! It's too complex to be going backwards from EV's. Try again.
So it's a slightly more compact hybrid. I see nothing being done that isn't done my every other hybrid. Unless when they say more torque, the mean *lots* more torque. But, more hybrids out there the better. Toyota just put ~ 24K patents into the public domain to encourage making more hybrids.
Please Google search "Deferred Atkinson Cycle and simultaneous heat extraction engine" for ultimate efficiency. Patent granted by Indian PO. This is most suitable for Hybrid Electric Vehicles.

Wow, not only a push belt CVT but clutches too! This has to be the worst hybrid inplementation after the KIA with its 6 speed dual clutch gearbox or Honda with its engine just charging the battery up to 45mph when a clutch engages. Only Toyota/Lexus do it properly.
Can I get it in a Nissan Titan, and the Cummins ISV5?
cant wait to check this out. trade in here in come lol. i got a 2012 altima and i love it. now with more mpg and more hp now that is sick.
ugh I cant wait
This reminds me of final fantasy

Trades46 same motor

I just wish I could see how Nissan GTR LMP nismo hybrid system works
Does this engine give the driver an option of driving in the electric mode only or gas mode only?
No.
Very nice 👍😎
i love Nissan's
which car models are using this type of hybrid system? really interesting!

None of the good ones.

Mr. Snider, don't you think there would be some problem when the car will work in parallel mode ?
Nissan/Renault push belts are notoriously fragile.

I know it's been five months, but I still think you need to have a look at the upload date of the video mate.
Thats brilliant.
As an engineer I say its the worst hybrid implementation by far.

They kept the fragile push belt! How stupid is that?
😄

Not a cvt
Has a push belt and cones so is a CVT doomed to fail.

CVT is amazing
