Holy shit I never realized the amount of thought and detail that went into this rig. From 20' it looks like a super capable offroader that has been beat up and cobbled back together. This video proves nothing is cobbled and it's a fully flushed service vehicle with impeccable engineering design. All those spare fluids tucked neatly along the empty spaces under the hood was the icing on the cake.

That truck is awesome. Its almost as if you laid out the winches and all the other bits on the shop floor and built a truck to fit them. After many years in the education business, I came to realise school and college does not suit everyone, especially those who show high ability in practical subjects. Some of us are good with words. Some of us are good at understanding how things fit together and how they work, which is where schools let their pupils down. I love your natural open presentation. Its as if I was standing near you listening to your thoughts in a conversation. Please don't change.

I really enjoy the Trail Mater videos just as they are, and the "um" counting heckler can find another video to go watch! I bet he wouldn't have a single solitary offensive thing to say to Rory face to face or he might get one of those meat hammers to the mouth. I'm always chuckling at the humorous things Rory says here and there. And i think for a high school drop out, he's purdy sharp, with plenty of wittiness on tap. It's nice to have the privilege to 'ride along' and to have a sort of 'fast track' to see what works and what doesn't from a guy who spent the time, tears, sweat, and blood finding out the hard and working way what works, AND who is taking the TIME and ENERGY to film it so that we CAN go along for the ride. Filming and editing has to be a real pain, so thanks Rory and keep em coming! Oh, and I told the people over at Premier Power Welders that you are the only reason why i just bought their welder for my Power Wagon, they said they are getting a lot orders from your way!

Saw you on one of Matt's Off Road recovery videos and followed ever since. Matt does cool recoveries in his videos, but you seem to go more in the rocks and trails than the dunes Matt is in. Love the rig, its built for one thing and it does that well.
Oh, and to combat the umm counter in the comments, just put your own up. Take is job from him just to spite him. Lol. You will get better in front of the camera. Rory, thanks for the tour of your incredibly well built and though-out recovery vehicle. I have always loved specialty built equipment and Trailmater is one of the best. You've incorporated everything you need for your difficult task of offroad recovery into a well organized system. That truck is an amalgamation of all the lessons learned the hard way, all the times you wished you'd had that extra winch or tool or strap or bottle of tranny fluid. You may not have a college education, but you obviously know how to think and plan an build and that's getting to be a rare thing in modern day America! To build a truck like that, so well prepared for almost anything you might come across and to take on the hard jobs that come our way, you've definitely earned my respect! Thanks for all the great videos and I wish you much success!

@@jimmylarge1148 Indoctrination. Geez, there's a one word explanation for public education, not to mention the degrees lots of folks pay through the nose for and go into serious debt for decades after.
I happen to know quite a few 'dropouts' doing far far better than some 'highly educated know it alls'.
Don't get me wrong, there are some really brilliant educated professionals such as my daughter. She is a parent's dream realized! My daughter learned by working hard, getting her hands dirty and a love for math. We made sure of that.
When I worked at NASA, I'd see researchers, programmers and scientists so deep in their thought processes they'd LITERALLY walk into walls, look up, shake their heads, then go right back, head down to thinking! It took me awhile to figure out why I was so rudely ignored when I'd say hi when walking by in a hallway. These things happened repeatedly. These sort of folks are in an entirely different reality!
In my trade as a machinist contractor, I often hear engineers, scientists or programmers say "Well, in theory this should work." Most especially, the young 'know it alls'!
I just tell 'em I'll build whatever you want me to. Within safety, reason and (not so) common sense. Draft it up! Just keep paying me. My expertise will not come cheap! When contact money dries up, I'm out.
The very best engineers and managers I've ever known were the ones who got their hands dirty, swept the freakin floor and KNEW how to make stuff actually happen.
      Just like this gentleman.

This is a great example of someone who would make a good space engineer; thoughtful placement of important tools, lesser used more precision tools take slightly more time to reach because they don’t need to clutter the work space (the space near the winches or controls), a common size fastener for common tasked mounts, and using only what you need instead of bringing more than enough for the creature comforts. Also the harbor freight snatch blocks will technically be better even when they fail because as you’ve shown they will wear to indicate age and length of service instead of look beefy and nice until the moment they fail NICE!

Some people are built to speak in front of people and some are not. I was a store manager and director in retail operations for many years. At one store, I had 85 employees and held quarterly "state-of-the-store" meetings. I would occasionally ask my assistant managers and office manager to speak as well. One guy was really comfortable with it - better than me! - and my other guy was terrified. I would have him grab a pack of 3" x 5" recipe cards off the shelf and write down his main talking points and examples of his main points. I would even do this if I had a lot to cover in the meeting. And, I NEVER had an employee come up to me after a meeting and say, "You suck for using note cards!" Nobody cared.
I don't even notice you using the filler words. Most people couldn't care less either. The note cards solution was for my one assistant. I don't see you as needing that. I've not ever noticed you losing control of your thoughts when explaining a recovery. Everyone occasionally loses that one word that they can't recall. Ignore the 1% who are trolling for responses. They've never had to speak in front of thousands of people. Remember, they're too busy criticizing others to be a successful business owner or youtuber.

I was in your area last month. I met the FB/MORR crews to meet you would have been the beer on a hot day Joy. Keep it up. See you next trip.

If all the trolls had a real life they would not be bashing you here on your life. I too am a high school drop out that managed to have a good self employed life all the way to my retirement at age 59. That was 11 years ago and now I get to do what I want to do with my time which includes watching your RUclips content and find it very worthwhile. You are becoming a legend in the offroad recovery world along with your self created Beast Trail Mater. Keep on being you! There are plenty of us out here who respect who you are and what you are doing. ROCK ON!

Dude at the end of the day aslong as you are happy in doing what you do your education means nothing, I struggle with speech aswell and have a somewhere limited vocabulary but that shouldn’t have to effect what you love doing! I personally would love you come out and do what you do or even work for you for that matter!!

I dug back into the archives to help me get a better idea of things I want to have in my vehicle for "Just In Case" scenarios.
It blows my mind just how well equipped you are! And a year later, its clear as day that TrailMater has only improved.
The other channels helped contribute to reasons I to start helping those in need, But youre the reason im equipped to do so.
From one high school drop out to another, thank you for all your teachings

Love your set up can I make a suggestion on your air pump I used an ac compressor for years put you a little bigger tank on it with a good pop off valve and wire the ac clutch to a toggle switch an when you need air flip the switch an it will run an impact all day long an when your done turn your toggle switch off an it's not using engine power just a pully turning but don't forget be sure you have a good pop off valve if not it will blow your air tank up and once in a while turn it on an put a little oil down the sucking side to lubricate it but it will pump.the hell out of air buddy just like it will freon

Awesome content Rory. I greatly appreciate you guys happy attitudes, comic tone, lack of DRAMA and "REAL" interaction. Don't let the haters bother you AT ALL! They are just jealous and they are empty inside. That's why they try to tear others down. Love your channel. Kudos, take care, and be safe.
P.S. I watched you crafting the blue wrecker and trust me when i say you have SO MUCH more than college education. You have real-world engineering skills that I'd wish for any day. Thanks for allowing us along on your adventures.

I much prefer your honesty and humbleness than some person that is polished so much that it is fake. A polished turd is still a turd. Keep doing you, Brother, you are awesome!

I really liked the extra fluid storage inside the engine bay. I was a little surprised when you opened the hood and showed that! In hindsight, after watching a bunch of your newer videos, I would just like to say that I also appreciate the way that you "speak" and explain things in your older videos. I think people (RUclips viewers and commenters) forget that real-life conversation and communication doesn't happen like it does in scripted movies and by professional news anchors. People pause, make extra noises, lose track of what they're saying, and that's completely fine and normal. It doesn't detract from what you know or the importance of what you have to say.

I just binged watched a bunch of your videos and can honestly say I really hope you don’t change how your doing things. Your setup is epic, watching you use it with the level of skill you have is completely captivating and the filming/editing style really suits the content. It just feels very real and that’s a rare & difficult thing to be good at putting across. I know plenty of highly educated people that simply couldn’t do what you do.
    Keep it up dude 👍👍
