  • After taking the paperwork to DMV, getting a VIN inspection done, and even getting handed registration so that I could use it, I was patiently waiting for the title and plates to show up in the mail. But what I got instead was some very bad news. I’ve given all the paperwork and information I have to the sheriff’s department, and had a long interview with a DMV investigator as well that both cleared me of any wrongdoing, but unfortunately I have no recourse to get my money back. Even in the slim chance that law enforcement was able to find the thief, I would still have to figure out how to get my money out of him, and the chances of actually getting paid would basically be zero. This is a pretty big hit and a real bummer. It’s the first time I’ve ever bought something in brand new condition and it was a very welcome change to finally have something nice that didn’t need some sort of work done to it. Oh well, shit happens and there’s nothing else to do but move on and power through it.

    For some context here.. When I met the guy to buy the trailer, he had a title, manufactures certificate of origin, and bill of sale, all matching the VIN number on the trailer that did NOT come up as stolen when I checked it. There’s no way I can get my money back from the guy who sold it to me, BECAUSE HE WAS THE THIEF. I’ve been through the ringer with the sheriffs office handling the case for the original and legitimate owner, and a DMV investigator, and I gave them all the documentation and paperwork I had, including the cash withdrawal from my bank for the amount of the trailer just an hour before the purchase, which cleared me of any wrong doing. But all of the paperwork the thief had, the phone number he used, and even the address we met at were all fake.
    The DMV investigator said he’s seen quite a bit of this lately where the thief’s are scouting out a vehicle ahead of time, making up all the paperwork with the legitimate VIN, then listing it for sale before they ever even steal it. Then once they have someone (like me) setup a time to come look at the vehicle, they go take it and meet up with the prospective buyer at the address of a random person who they know isn’t home during the day. That way the vehicle still has a clean vin when “sold”, and you’ll never be able to track them back down once everyone realizes it’s stolen.
    So since we have no idea what the true identity of that person is, or how to ever find them again, I’m not getting that money back.

    I have also been scammed this way. The one thing I had on my side is that I parked behind the trailer to check it out and left my truck running with the dash cam on. While I still lost money. His face and vehicle were on camera and he was arrested. Of course it was a week later and the money was spent. I could sue him but he had no pot to piss in and already owed restitution to 3 other individuals previously. Now he's serving 15 years for drugs and theft charges. My moral is record every transaction for your own safety.

    When I saw the title of the video and knowing you're in Oregon, my first thought was Portland. Portland has got to be the capital of stolen trailers in the US. I had a one year old Wells Cargo enclosed trailer stolen there from in front of my apartment about 15 years ago. I think at that time there had been over 600 trailers stolen that year. Luckily I had put insurance on it about 6 months before. It was recovered about 15 blocks away and had been trashed in order to make it less identifiable. One of the idiots that stole it was wearing a tracking collar on his ankle and the cops were able to place him at the scene at the exact time it was stolen. The charge was "unauthorized use of a vehicle". His defense attorney kept getting it postponed till I said "f**k it" and forgot about it. If I was betting, I would bet he was your thief or definitely knows the thief.

    I like Casey's channel and videos. In return for his content creation I WATCH EVERY AD ALL THE WAY THRU while watching Casey's videos. Want to help him recover the lost money on the trailer? Watch every ad all the way thru - just let them run until the video continues. Remember, the longer the ad, the better the revenue from it. Casey puts alot of time into getting his videos out, take 4-5 minutes to show you appreciation. Use the time to go get a sandwich, pet the dog, yell at the kids, make googly eyes at the wife or husband, whatever.

    I had the exact same experience in the Portland area with a stolen trailer about a month ago. I lost $5,000 in the whole thing. The WoCo sheriff said the OEM certification looked authentic. Please be very careful when buying a trailer in Oregon. Scammers are aware of how to fool you!!!!!!

    Do you think that first trailer you were going to get was legit, or had they stolen that one too? I think that I remember this correctly, you went to pick up the first trailer, they had sold it before you got there, but then said that they had this other trailer that they would sell you that was a better trailer... It really ticks me off when good, hard working people get taken advantage of.

    • @tak-el-uc

      The first trailer probably never existed. If you advertise a random trailer with some photos from the internet , you don't have to advertise a stolen trailer for sale but still find a buyer.

    • @rodrod383
      @rodrod383 Год назад +2

      @@tak-el-uc this is exactly what I was thinking.......you put a random trailer for sale and then say it is "sold", but I got this other one and then there is no way whoever it was stolen from is looking for it and finding it advertised online......I doubt that Casey will spend the time (he is the type that moves on with life), but that could be a way to catch the thief......get a burner phone or google number and .call about trailers you see for sale and see if the same "well it is sold, but I have this other one" is used......most random people do not have several trailers for sale just the one

    • @Stinker337
      @Stinker337 Год назад

      I did the same thing. But being that my Load Trail dump trailer was a power up/power down I had to install 2 diodes (works as a check value) so power goes one way and not back the other way. Then I connected the corded control box back to it by using some piggyback clips. I also added an off/on switch to the Harbor Freight box because it does draw some power from the battery when parked. Works AWESOME!

    Cool options. Nice having differnt tools for the job. The first deck truck i ran was a 1988 one tone Chevy with a 5 speed and 454. Hard as hell on gas but even with one on the deck and and one on the lift you could still pull out to pass if you wanted to. Next truck was a top kick with a cat engine. They were sold as comercial trucks but only had a 60 or 80 thousand KM warranty. We shifted to Kenworts after and had real trucks at at last. Buisness is closed now but it was a fun time in my life. Have a good day Casey, cheers from Canada.
